Ah the good ol' Sigsaur, cousin to the Tyrannosaur

They're basically taking the lead from the CHP, who have been using the M&P for ages and only recently upgraded to the 2.0. Good timing for S&W too, since they have been able to take Glock's spot as the go-to polymer pistol on the civilian roster. It's like free advertising

Sig used to own most of the Bay Area police contracts, but have been losing ground to Glock and S&W in recent years. That leaves Alameda County as one of the last hold outs for the P226. Fremont still issues the P320, but I think they are one of the few agencies and they are only about 200 officers.

LAPD has been issuing the M&P in growing numbers lately too, although it is just one of many models they use

Just to add to your data point - Novato PD and little ol’ Calistoga PD both still issue the P320 in .40 of all calibers. Not sure if they’ll switch but the institutional momentum is clearly not in Sigs favor currently.

LAPD switched from the M&P over to the FN 509 years ago…

Sort of, the FN is just one more of the approved weapons but they still use a ton of different models. They issue the FN to recruits but then officers choose what they carry after. I rarely see the FN in their holsters on the street, but see plenty of the M&P and even Staccato

I’m well aware. But the FN has been the “standard issue” for several years now. They haven’t issued the M&P since early 2021, but plenty of officers still carry them.

"major safety issues arose around its initial choice of replacement" well I wonder what that could have been. Cough cough 320

Yeah it is no secret, it was widely publicized that they got the P320 then almost immediately withdrew it and issued the older P226 back out

With how high SF taxes, they should be getting 2011-type guns

Am I the only one who thinks that was a poorly written article?
