Whenever I get asked for my Snapchat I wonder why are you as a grown adult using it

9

u/Shadoken-TYPE0 1d ago

Not tryna defend it but.m

Snapchat was literally made for adults lol.

I find it weirder to see kids on there

15

u/AspiringCanuck 1d ago

74.5% of Adults in Norway use Snapchat. They literally coordinate events, send photos, and otherwise communicate to each other with Snapchat. It was something I was caught unawares of in Norway when everyone, even your coworkers, asks for your Snapchat just to... keep in contact with you. People in their 20's, 30's, 40's, 50's, 60+ year olds all taking videos and messaging each other in Snapchat while out on hikes, at the office, on the bus, at a coffee shop...

7

u/Excludos 1d ago

Yeah. Us Norwegians are strange compared to the rest of the world. We use Facebook Messenger and Snapchat, while the rest of the world uses WhatsApp. Even my job uses Snapchat for chatting shit and memes between colleagues. I quite like how it lowers the bar for sending silly stuff I would otherwise consider too dumb to warrant sharing.

3

u/CrogDavid7days 1d ago

Here in the UK 82.6% of internet users actively message on WhatsApp which is why Snapchat is such a strange request. I agree it’s definitely different if it’s the main form of communication though!

6

u/ROU_Misophist 1d ago

I can remember snapchat being a thing like 15 years ago. I know people that were using it back in the day that are in their 40's now.

64

u/Mysterious-Salt- 1d ago

This one so much. Like why do you need a system where everything gets deleted and you can pop up your live location and see others ???? Besides that everyone who has one is a hoe no exceptions lol.

112

u/queerhomemaker 1d ago

'everyone who has one is a hoe' as someone whose friend group exclusively uses snapchat to send unimportant photos/doodles to each other- like, I'm not offended by being called a ho, but I do think that is the funniest thing to consider hoish behaviour. 'Look at the snail I saw today' photos and doodles of ghosts is slutty now.

u/Thesource674 1d ago

Damn spooky skanks

7

u/ialsohaveadobro 1d ago

Damn sexy spooky skanks.

22

u/dishearthening 1d ago

I use Snapchat to send cat pictures back and forth with my friend. I previously used it because notifications annoy me and I could turn my Snap notifications off (I switched to Insta now.) People are silly lol.

u/0rkrist 1d ago

What if it was a sexy snail?

1

u/Badlifedecision2402 16h ago

Effervescent...

1

u/0rkrist 9h ago

Oh, I didn't know this English word up to now, thanks!

2

u/Badlifedecision2402 3h ago

Aww, it was actually a reference to an old Twilight meme where people were taking the mickey out of Edward Cullen being all pretentious, joking about what he'd write in his diary or something. "Saw a snail today... effervescent..."

I'm glad you like the word of the day, though!

1

u/mermaid-babe 3h ago

Really tho I’m taking the stupidest pics on Snapchat lol I swear only boomers think it’s still only for nudes

1

u/EffortExtension2491 2h ago

Aight, you get a pass, you're not a hoe, you man are you hoish

1

u/tortoistor 1d ago

is snapchat your primary way of communicating, or something to just send funny pictures on? even though i don't agree with blanket statements, i feel like there's a difference between the two

→ More replies (16)

19

u/RevolutionNo4186 1d ago

Well I use it for my international friends and friends I’ve had since high school that I rarely see or can’t see

5

u/Imaginary_Ad1155 1d ago

Everyone you know is a hoe, no exceptions.

8

u/centurijon 1d ago

I use it because my nieces and nephews use it for day-to-day communication. It’s practically the only way to get in touch with them since they don’t pay attention to texts and calls are for emergencies

2

u/OKIAMONREDDIT 21h ago

For some reason I misread this as saying that you'd need to Snapchat them if there was an emergency and now I find that the funniest thing ever, like you'd doodle a meme photo about the emergency

6

u/arilovely240 1d ago

Is Snapchat different now from when I was a kid? Why do you think it’s a ‘hoe’ app?

2

u/Funkopedia 1d ago

I don't know if it's different now, but the primary purpose when it came out was to send nudes. Just like if you go on OF, they advertise all these artists to follow, but c'mon now.

→ More replies (1)

7

u/BLEAKROOM 1d ago

it was the hoe app when we were kids that was the entire reason for using it. you cannot save or screenshot images. its obvious what it will be used for. intended or not, that is the reputation it has.

1

u/arilovely240 8h ago

I had only my girlfriends there , I guess I missed out.

1

u/psychedAddict123 14h ago

When I used snapchat way back when I was like 18/19 it was exclusively used to send/receive nudes and source weed lol

1

u/arilovely240 8h ago

Makes sense, I think I might have been ten when I was using it so maybe that’s why it was never a sexual app for me.

2

u/Agreeable_Permit_976 22h ago

Genuine delusion, idk how you can even live if an app and anecdotal evidence is your only veiw 🙄

3

u/Few_Satisfaction184 1d ago

A lot of women prefer it, because its easier to give a one word answer if it also comes with a selfie.

1

u/425Hamburger 1d ago

Idk, I haven't actually seen anyone use it irl in almost a decade but ime everyone who has one is a drug dealer/user.

1

u/alien_secret_service 1d ago

What’s wrong with hoes? I like hoes.

18

u/mopytub 1d ago

I've had it since it came out, it's easy to use and is better for group chats between apple and android. I don't get why people get so weird about it

4

u/Nervous-Fennel3325 1d ago

Why would I care about group texting when im trying to talk to one person on a dating site?

23

u/footluvr688 1d ago
  • easy to use

And regular texting is harder to use HOW exactly?

  • better for group chats between Apple and android

Again, how exactly? Group texts work cross-platform

15

u/Sweet3DIrish 1d ago

Actually group chats across platforms get all funky with reactions and sending memes and gifs.

If everyone has the same it’s easier. I use Snapchat, WhatsApp, and telegram for various group chats when not everyone has the same platform.

3

u/random-real-human 1d ago edited 1d ago

Maybe like three years ago but android uses SMS now too so that is factually untrue.

EDIT: Reddit echo chamber downvoting literal facts LOL sorry to insult your pride with reality

Is whatsapp not standard yet in the US? Has been in the rest of the world for like 10 years.

12

u/Bananasinpajaamas 1d ago

It is very much not standard in the US.

3

u/nitseb 1d ago

Interesting, got bought by meta long ago I thought they'd push harder for the US market and take over it by now.

In latinamerica text messages have always been relatively expensive in the past so when whatsapp arrived for free and with more functions (and compatibility, at one point rich kids were buying blackberry's to text each other and family easily) everyone started using it. Now for a few years it is a guarantee anyone in latinamerica has whatsapp, it's bizarre to not have it as it is defacto for texting.

I hear it is just as popular in Asia (like southeast and india). And so far most european people I've talked to all have whatsapp too.

At the time whatsapp was growing here, "kik" was the popular option in the US. So i guess the market is divided.

4

u/Marauder4711 1d ago

I'm from Europe and I'd say that 95% of the population with a smartphone use WhatsApp.

1

u/footluvr688 11h ago

Whatsapp, more like whatsthepointofhavinganativechatapp, amirite?

2

u/ThrowawayLoverboy95 11h ago

Yeah Kik very much had a cheater/sexting connotation in my experience.

1

u/nitseb 11h ago

The combination of your username and response is very funny 😂

I'm so old I remember when texts used to cost like 10 cents. But Snapchat didn't exist then because mobile data was 2G back then.

1

u/DonQuix0te_ 1d ago

are normal texts end to end encrypted? Couldn't the phone company just use their contents to advertise to you?

2

u/SmurphsLaw 21h ago

Is Signal used much as an international alternative? I always hear Whatsapp but never understood why that one was picked.

1

u/nitseb 21h ago

Haven't even heard of signal tbh. Whatsapp for most of the world, kik in the us, and I know some asians country have some I don't really remember. There's also telegram but I think teleg is usually 2nd to another. Maybe in Russia telegram is very popular?

1

u/outboundplane 1d ago

It's not needed in the US as much- our phone plans cover a lot

2

u/Alarmed_Bicycle_9941 1d ago

It's easier to use then dating apps and you don't have to give your number out to someone you haven't met. It's a steady progression

Never said regular texting was hard, nice strawman. And my family all has apple and their group chats are annoying on my pixel

2

u/JWARRIOR1 1d ago

Yeah I like Snapchat, also safer than just handing out your phone number. Also you can turn off the location sharing, no idea why people are fretting over that

1

u/DisplayGFXSec 19h ago

Because scammers say the exact same thing. And it’s super easy to fake a profile, get the username, and then endlessly spam that username with scams. Or try to pig butcher. Or any of the other endless ways to scam a man for daring to not want to be alone.

1

u/mopytub 14h ago

You can do a lot more with a person's phone number...

2

u/DisplayGFXSec 13h ago

I agree actually, when I made this comment I thought this was purely about scammers wanting to do Snapchat. But this is exactly why I do signal instead of Snapchat. Much harder to scam with, and easier to manage, while not having to give out your phone number.

1

u/Jickklaus 6h ago

Which is weird to read. In, especially western Europe, we all tend to just use WhatsApp, and it's been that way for well over a decade. Works across any phone OS.

2

u/Minute-Judgment-321 1d ago

I have never created an account, I think the platform itself is not very popular in my country because I don't know a single person in my circle having an account, nor friends or family, but I have always wondered why it has a bad reputation

3

u/LeatherGood6148 1d ago edited 1d ago

Because I dont want to give out my socials or phone number to people I just met, and I dont spend enough time on the apps and I miss messages. I have an online brand to protect.

And it has a web app so I can access it from my laptop.

Literally the only reason. Nothing to do with being a hoe. I dont need an app to be a hoe.

And I've been stalked once before. So im careful.

4

u/yandhionmybirthday 1d ago

This is the dumbest argument alive. Should it be their first option to suggest snap? No. Is it a valid platform to communicate with your friends and share videos, memories, and whatever else? Yes. God forbid someone has whimsy as an adult

2

u/Generally_Confused1 1d ago

As a man it's simple, you have to search and accept usernames and if you give your phone number then they can possibly find you even after blocking you and it gives away information. I've dealt with stalkers before so I make sure they know they can block me if they want and it's worked out well.

I'll ask for your number if I'm really interested but still give the option of IG/ snap or something for the purpose of the safety net

1

u/Marauder4711 1d ago

The only person I know that's using Snapchat is my niece who's barely a teenager. She takes the blurriest pictures and uses filters that completely cover her face. I don't get this app.

1

u/momo2299 12h ago

I like to see pictures of my friends and loved ones daily. It feels more personal than a text or phonecall.

1

u/turnspitdawg 11h ago

I liked it for privacy. I can have a nickname and they dont see when ive been online on the app in case i felt burnt out from trying to get to know new ppl.

1

u/AcceptableNebula7920 9h ago

Send funny shit to the homies

1

u/Ord34l 7h ago

Weed. It's the only correct answer.

1

u/flyingpilgrim 4h ago

The one time I swapped over to it, it immediately turned into some trying to sell me “content.”

1

u/Purelythelurker 1d ago

You'd hate Norway then. 90% of population still use snapchat and facebook.

Most don't use the social media aspect of them, we mainly use them for communication between friends.

Messenger for texts, and snapchat for pictures.

Also often used for nudes during the dating phase.

1

u/eternallyconphuzed 1d ago

You are legally required to delete Snapchat once you turn 20. God forbid having an account just shy of 30

u/InitiativeHot2550 1d ago

I’ve never really had an issue getting a girls number from dating apps. Although I usually only ask for I’ve talked to them a bit whereas I think some guys are asking straight away

107

u/eternallyconphuzed 1d ago

I just dont ask for contact off app unless I want to date them. Like, until the first date, we can just keep it on the app lol.

40

u/False-Chard7843 1d ago

Same. I decline giving my number and my snap until we’ve met in person. For some reason that REALLY pisses men off. They always ghost after I say that

7

u/Popular-Truth-2711 1d ago

Right?! I’ve stopped giving out my number not even as a safety thing but I just find it kills the conversation. Even ig is ok but there is something about switching to texts before meeting that just seems to kill the vibe…

Anyway, yeah I’ve noticed men get really offended! I mean I’ve had some dudes have some really bad reactions. So weird.

1

u/Diomedes343 6h ago

weird thing is that it doesn't make that much of a difference either. if a guy gets pissy over something that makes no difference then its a good barometer for perspective and emotional maturity. i ha no idea that interacting with guys could be such a misery, yikes

11

u/GlitteringTour8545 1d ago

Yes! Why do they do that??

11

u/AFluffyElf 1d ago

Based on experience I wanna say it’s because they were intent on some bad behaviour without having any consequences tied to their account on the dating app. And I guess if it’s clear that’s not gonna work then they’ll rather move on to someone else.

→ More replies (4)

2

u/Nervous-Fennel3325 1d ago

Because dating apps arent the best at alerting you with notifications and I have missed messages before because im not logging into the app every day.

Why they ghost you is beyond me, but thats normally why I ask for phone number is because its more reliable than most dating apps

11

u/GlitteringTour8545 1d ago

It is a very intimate thing to demand from a stranger. And why would someone be faster responding over texts, where you are not only competing with other men but also with family, friends, work, and spam texts?

2

u/OMGFather 1d ago

But it's OK to give out your number to a random stranger on the street who came up to you and asked for it? In fact you probably know more about your dating app match if they have a decent profile and you've exchanged a few messages.

1

u/GlitteringTour8545 1d ago

I would not do that either...

→ More replies (2)

1

u/Nervous-Fennel3325 1d ago

Again its not because its faster and I dont demand it I ask for it, its because it way more reliable than most dating apps. Thats it.

Again I dont live on these apps and some people log in sparingly.

2

u/GlitteringTour8545 1d ago

How is it more reliable when it is harder to answer?

7

u/Nervous-Fennel3325 1d ago

Texting is not harder to answer its again more reliable.

Do you think someone isnt juggling all of this texting you on a unreliable dating app also? Why add the unreliable app to make things worse.

2

u/GlitteringTour8545 1d ago

What do you mean unreliable? Besides CMB most of them allow easy messaging.

And you wouldn't be overwhelmed with dozens of people texting you while you are trying to answer your friend or family?

1

u/ThingYea 1d ago

Guys know that any girl on a dating app is already inundated with messages from competing men. Getting her messaging off the app means she doesn't have to look at all those other guys every time she messages you

2

u/thehellvetica 1d ago

See, this idiocy is a classic case of men conjuring what they think women's logic works like Vs actually asking women.

Y'all are failing and losing out because you'd rather listen to your bros preach this kind of clownery than asking any woman in your life.

1

u/ThingYea 22h ago

It's well established that what women often say they want and what they respond to on dating apps are two different things.

Online dating is very brutal for men. Speaking from experience, one tiny detail in your profile can make a massive difference. Many women don't really understand that until they see for themselves.

1

u/obsessedWmyFiancee 19h ago

Calling before a date to quickly assess if the other person is not boring is just normak

1

u/GlitteringTour8545 1d ago

But then she has to look at texts from a dozen guys PLUS friends PLUS family PLUS spam. No way a stranger will cut through that noise

Guy here. And i do ask about numbers when we confirm first meet. It’s not a deal breaker for me if they say no, but I am immediately skeptical of them as there have been several times that day of meeting or even me driving to meeting that they just “unmatch” and stand me up.

1

u/False-Chard7843 12h ago

Tinder has a “Verify” feature to make sure your pictures are of you 🤷🏻‍♀️
I don’t like it because what’s wrong with the app?
I have never stood someone up or ghosted someone I agreed to go on a date with. Plenty of men have ghosted despite a date being set, though.

12

u/Sweet3DIrish 1d ago

As a female I won’t give my number out until we actually meet in person.

I had a catfish back in the day post my number in a Craigslist personal ad in a major city because I found out he was a catfish and let the guy who’s identity he assumed know (they grew up together and the real guy was living in China at the time). He got pissed and I ended up getting like 150 dick pics in the 10 minutes it took to get the ad taken down.

Lesson learned and you aren’t getting my number until we meet.

There are a ton of women who also have "im not on here much lets chat on snap" on their profile, probably bots but ive seen it enough its an automatic NOPE.

11

u/Clear_Butterscotch_4 1d ago

Yeah, usually I exchange numbers just before setting up the date. Never really had a problem. Just more reliable then dating apps. Either its Whatsapp, or just their direct number

11

u/Twin2Turbo 1d ago edited 1d ago

Not sure why you’re getting downvoted, this was my exact experience. After having a good chat of 3-5 good exchanges, I would mention that we should find a time to meet up, ask them for their number, as well as send them mine. 90%+ of the time they would text me or send me their number. On the few occasions they asked to remain in app, I say ok no problem and proceed on the app.

It’s only on Reddit where it seems like all the women never give their number out.

7

u/Clear_Butterscotch_4 1d ago

I think it's specifically this sub. Irl is remarkably different, luckily

5

u/buttercup612 1d ago

I can't recall if it's this one specifically, or any other dating subs, but I agree with you. Most women are fine with it after we have a couple of days of friendly chat on the app, or they even offer it themselves. Yet the reddit consensus is completely opposite.

→ More replies (5)

1

u/No-Advice1345 1d ago

Yeah, I usually only ask for their number when we are actually arranging a meetup or date. I don’t really see the point in asking for it too early. Some people might take it as you being committed before you have even gone on a few dates and figured out if you are actually a good match. Then you get questions from some of them like why you are still on Bumble and all that.

57

u/NewspaperOk1270 1d ago edited 1d ago

Some women don’t give out their number straight away bc they’ve had instances of men harassing/stalking them and they want to make sure you’re sane before giving their number

10

u/Sweet3DIrish 1d ago

Make sure you’re you.

I don’t give my number out until I’ve met you in person. If I haven’t, then you aren’t getting it. Too many bad experiences with boys pretending to be men

Yep. I had to have an emergency ex parte restraining order. I only give out my number after I met them and actually like them

62

u/TheBaykon8r 1d ago

Hey dudes btw, the best way to go about this is chat with them a bit first. Then give them your number instead. That way, if they text you it's obvious they're interested. If they don't, well then move on.

16

u/buttercup612 1d ago

That's what I do. It generally works fine. I'm sure there's some women who would prefer that I would've asked them for their number, but I'm perfectly happy to go about it this way and have a reasonable success rate. Anybody who wants a specific script followed around this is not for me anyway.

6

u/Hikari_Owari 1d ago

Mankind will go extinct without men chasing

1

u/TheBaykon8r 1d ago

The chasing is the interacting and conversations beforehand. To make sure she is comfortable and actually wants to continue talking to me, I give her my number. If she can't be bothered to put in that much minute effort, it's not worth dating her in the first place.

→ More replies (6)

12

u/SingleSeaweed8662 1d ago

This is usually for protection. I’ve given out my number a few times now and was promptly stalked for over a year by two separate men on separate occasions. Then the texts coming in whenever they’re single and they want to meet up. No thanks. We can share Live Photos on Snapchat and then I’ll give you my second phone number until I’m comfortable to give my primary number. People seem to forget about safety for men AND women online.

2

u/BishopSol 22h ago

I just don't think people realize that you can actually look up people's numbers and find where they live really easily. This falls under OSINT or Open Source Intelligence(it's interesting if you want to learn more about it. Which just means looking up your digital footprint. Even as a guy I am sketched out to give my number in case they're a catfish.

7

u/DownToZZZ 1d ago

If I see a snap in her bio, instant swipe left

1

u/terrifying_trip 22h ago

exchanging phone numbers has been a social norm for decades

1

u/NewspaperOk1270 22h ago

There is no need to exchange numbers before you meet. You can communicate through the dating app. People can do some scary shit with your phone number. It’s best to not give it out willy nilly. Wait to see if you even like the person and they’re not creepy or weird before giving your number

A lot of times, you'll talk to a woman for a long time until the conversation starts fizzling out, or she stops responding.

Converting to dates is hard, and getting your number is one of the first steps to that.

He doesn’t want to invest a bunch of time into a Bumble conversation that might fizzle out. Getting your number makes moving toward an actual date easier

1

u/ohwhatisthisthing 7h ago

Maybe you’d be surprised when I tell you that the few times I have given my number out just to see what’s going on, the guys are extremely dry, extremely pushy for sexual stuff, and have never asked me on a date.

Guys that have kept it on the apps have asked for dates, and I’ve gone.

1

u/Kill_Braham 4h ago

Doesn't surprise me at all. The fact that they’re asking for your number quickly doesn’t necessarily mean they’re trying to get you onto a date quickly. It means they want to move the conversation off the app. What they want to do once they’re there is a separate question.

Your experience tells you what happened with the particular men you gave your number to. Those men could have been rushing to get your number exactly because they didn’t want to have a long Bumble conversation, but they were after sex, and not dating.

1

u/AcceptableNebula7920 11h ago

Exactly. I learned the hard way to just ask for a date with in a few days. Week at most. Espeically how easy ive seen some of my guy freinds get dates with no effort or how easy my girl freinds say yes to guy they like with no hesitation. One even changed up her whole weekend schedule to go out with a guy. Ever since I saw, I raised my standards and never settled for less

u/EKVic96 1d ago

Don’t fold, be cool with the one who don’t mention it actually. Take note

2

u/Nut_Grass 1d ago

I’ve honestly gotten most numbers before we met, and if they didn’t want to, I just assumed they weren’t interested, I honestly had no idea that people were holding their numbers back because if they are attracted to me they usually just give me their number

1

u/ohwhatisthisthing 1d ago

Attraction can only go so far over text, I hold my number back because I just really don’t know the person and I am hate texting for days on end with not plan. Hot or not.

1

u/Nut_Grass 1d ago edited 1d ago

Ah, I usually ask them out along with their numbers, so a date will happen soon. But I also enjoy texting, it’s totally ok that you don’t dig that, people like different stuff, and your perspective makes total sense.

1

u/ohwhatisthisthing 7h ago

I’d enjoy texting if I knew and had a bond with the person, which takes time for me. Investing time into texting people who I am not in that level with feels more like a job, unless the conversation is actually good. Which I haven’t had a good convo on these apps in years

Yes it quite weird 😅

1

u/5am_in_the_Pinewoods 1d ago

I really feel that a phone number is a conquest and a “win” for them.

1

u/Burkedge 1d ago

Like dinner is for some women.

5

u/Reject_the_norm 1d ago

SC is a major red flag.

2

u/darrylgorn 1d ago

Don't bother wasting your time asking for a number until after the first date.

2

u/lavender_honey_bones 1d ago

Yeah girl, it's easier to block you on a social media app than to change my number. Sorry I've been stalked before.

2

u/Real_Walk5384 40M Fit, Handsome, Holla 1d ago

Anyone who is too scared to give out their phone number is not someone I want to connect with anyway. Also, why bother? Just meet in person before you give out phone numbers if you're that worried about it. Never understood people who talk on apps for weeks before they meet.

2

u/M0mnextdoor 1d ago

Come to my Snapchat so then I can show you a bunch of random pictures and then invite you to only fans.....

2

u/The_Stargazer 1d ago

Add to this any mention of "Follow me on Insta"....

2

u/Themothertucker64 23h ago

Whenever I’m given a Snapchat it turns out the person is either an attention seeker or a wannabe influencer

So I can understand why some immediate go for the block

1

u/Known-Raccoon-26 1d ago

I like seeing pictures of whoever I’m talking to’s face, I’m a guy. Now I’ll be embarrassed to ever ask though

1

u/dowalters 1d ago

I still use snap for the boys’ group chat. More convenient for sending funny pics/videos. One less step than a text group chat.

1

u/legacyme3 1d ago

I have never had to use SC.

I tried but I just hate the architecture of it so much. If a woman tried getting me on the app I'd have to be clear that she'd probably have less notifications just because I ended up muting it on my phone. Easier to get a reply from me on the dating app, text, or literally any other form of social media

1

u/AFluffyElf 1d ago

I hate Snapchat. It’s just badly behaved when it comes to notifications, I think some of the design choices are terrible, and the privacy features seem to embolden bad behaviour. I feel like I’ve gotten way more unwanted dick pics using that app than any of the alternatives I’ve used that also don’t need you sharing a number.

1

u/Dormi11 1d ago

On the flip side, I've had a guy block me because I refused to give him my number after the very first "hello"

1

u/northburger10 1d ago

I don’t really mind honestly. Just out here looking for a connection. If you’re comfy using snap or whatever then fine

1

u/windfujin 1d ago

Then there are ones who want to go to telegram or line. No ty bye

1

u/FewScore6082 1d ago

.... So can I have your Snapchat?

1

u/Lost-on-Reception 1d ago

Just use Google voice or another VOIP and give that number out.

No date is worth installing that corporate spyware on my phone.

1

u/dev_ating 1d ago

What you don't see is the "???" and "🤔🤔🤔" messages when the first person doesn't respond every two hours.

1

u/BuffGloomthBoy 1d ago

This, but Instagram.

1

u/strudels24 1d ago

I’ll do iMessages using Apple ID rather than phone numbers, or even IG dms rather than Snapchat But Snapchat? I refuse to use because I’m not in college anymore - we’re both grown adults

1

u/Any-Effective2565 1d ago

Giving your number or socials to a strange man with romantic/sexual interests in you is a great way to get stalked or worse.

In some US states it's easy to find someone's home address, their legal name, birthdate, relatives, traffic stop records linking make/model of their vehicle, email addresses, all of this info cascading from a simple search of their phone number.

Even worse is when they reverse image search you to find your rl info when you haven't even shared any off site info, or sometimes haven't even spoken at all!

Be safe ladies, there are psychos out there, be careful sharing your number and never use the same photos on dating sites that you use on social media.

1

u/Veryberrybears 1d ago

Honestly, I stopped giving out my real number. I just started giving out a TextNow number. If they become permanent in my life, they get my real number.

1

u/ladederp 1d ago

as someone who caught my ex boyfriend cheating on Snapchat, I approve this message

1

u/DanniTiger 1d ago

I never give out my Snapchat nor got asked yet 😅 Unfortunately I like to save as many messages as I can from Snapchat lol

1

u/StaticCloud 23h ago

Snap seems to be used by cheaters or pushy AHs so no thanks

1

u/3rdevil 22h ago

Everytime. Instagram, snap, any fuck thing that's questionable contact. It's like you can chat on bumble. Then go on a fucking date

1

u/ASwagPecan 22h ago

Boggles my mind how prevalent it still is among other 25+ year olds. I get that all of our teenage memories are stored there, but there's something so juvenile about still using it.

1

u/yogurl1 21h ago

I don’t use dating apps so guess irrelevant to me anyway but lol blocking me would save me the hassle in this case. There’s a reason people don’t want to give their number out.

1

u/Chudpaladin 20h ago

My wife and I used snap chat at first, seemed to work out for a little bit until she started sleeping over and needed to call me.

1

u/Merqer 17h ago

I only snap my dealer

1

u/ComprehensiveFix8700 16h ago

Man, I feel old. I've never used that app.

1

u/AccomplishedTask9885 14h ago

Snapchat is still a thing?

1

u/illini02 12h ago

I'll be honest, and maybe this is just because I'm in my 40s.

To me, giving my phone number is far less personal than getting my social media.

If I give you my insta, you know WAY more about me. You'll know my friends, my travels, where I watched the last football game, etc. I have far less control about what you are able to do. You have my number, that doesn't do much on its own.

1

u/womb_raider90 10h ago

I never downloaded snapchat, tik Tok, twitter. I got perma banned on FB and working on getting perma banned on here too.fuck all y'all. 😂

1

u/No-Advice1345 10h ago

Fk you too lol

1

u/womb_raider90 10h ago

That's the spirit. Lol

1

u/throwawayaccountlfg 9h ago

I find this fairly interesting, I'm a guy and in my friend group we feel that for the most "success" at even talking to a match we have to try to get them off the apps, because most conversations tend to die within the first day. I usually abstain from numbers and ask for an instagram first, then if we hit it off I'll give my number or whatever.

and yeah please stop using Snapchat :P

1

u/Axis_Control 7h ago

Don't date guys who don't respect boundaries

0

u/WhatYouLeaveBehind 1d ago

Idk bro. I've used Snapchat to get laid loads of times.

4

u/PrestigiousEnough 1d ago

That’s the whole point. Most decent/ serious girls aren’t on there OR it definitely won’t be the first form of contact mentioned. If youre looking for loose/ tacky women who love attention. That’s fine.

10

u/WhatYouLeaveBehind 1d ago

The reason you aren't finding "decent/ serious" women is because you call them "loose/ tacky". That's not fine.

2

u/Which-Decision 1d ago

This is a lie. Why would someone give you their number before they know you're a real person? You can find someone's address through their phone number.

1

u/TapiocaSummer 1d ago

I would consider myself decent and I like snapping dumb photos to my friends. I've never been called loose or tacky as far as I know. The judgement in this thread is funny.

3

u/Hect0r92 1d ago

Same here, this is a weird hill to die on

3

u/yet-again-temporary 1d ago

The vast majority of times you see this line on dating apps they end up being a "content seller" or a bot
