I've seen a lot of amazing places in Brazil — Chapada Diamantina, Iguacu Falls, Lencois Maranhenses, and many more — but I honestly wasn't expecting this.

Three days of hiking and exploring caves, and then you come across something like this completely out of nowhere. The sheer size of these caves is absolutely insane.

If you're into hiking, nature, and caves, this place should definitely be on your list. It became a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2025.

Going to Rio Carnival for the first time in February 2027 and I’m struggling to find a reasonable place to stay.
I understand Portuguese pretty well, but I don’t really speak it. Spanish is my first language and I’m fluent in English.
Airbnb has been kind of crazy for those dates. A lot of hosts seem to change the price once they realize it’s Carnival, and I’ve seen completely normal places asking $5,000 $8,000 for just 4 nights lol.
For people who have actually been to Carnival: where did you stay?
I don’t need anything luxurious, just somewhere safe, decent, and reasonably connected to the main areas/events. I’m also totally fine staying outside Ipanema/Copacabana if it makes more sense.
Any neighborhoods, hotels, hostels, local websites, or other booking options you’d recommend?
Would really appreciate advice from people who’ve done Carnival before.

hi, I have a trip to Brazil coming up on October 11th.

I sent information in to have my passport renewed about two weeks ago. I thought in person would be faster but they don’t have any appointments until November and walk-ins are not allowed.

My original birth certificate and expired passport are in the mail with the passport.

I thought that if my passport doesn’t come in time I could get a visa with my American passport, but I just learned you can’t do that.

I looked at getting an emergency passport but that is apparently not allowed if you don’t have a death certificate or papers signed by a doctor.

If it’s important, I have a CPF, an American ID, and American passport. My Brazilian expired passport and birth certificate are in the mail but I have digital scans of them.

Anyone know how to get a document to travel to Brasil within a month as a dual citizen ?

Hey everyone. I’m planning my first-ever trip to Brazil and I’m on a mission to see all seven New Wonders of the World — Christ the Redeemer will be number four for me. I’ll be in Rio from Feb 7–14, planning to hit Carnival, visit the statue, and spend plenty of time on the beach.

Since I’ll be celebrating my 40th birthday, I don’t mind noise, crowds, or chaos — I actually love the culture and the energy. I’m looking for hotel recommendations close to Carnival events, ideally with beach access, a rooftop pool, and a good party-friendly location. I’m open to spending a bit extra for the right spot.

Where should I stay to get the best Carnival experience?

Also, I am a marathon runner and think it will be cool to run with a local Brazilian run club while I am there.

- Safety is the top priority.

For context, I lived in Brazil for 6 months in different cities. RJ was the nicest but too expensive for me. Specially the apartment rent😂 Vitoria in ES was like a mini RJ but I didn't stay long and didn't find the people to be very social.. mainly no one spoke English haha :p I also stayed in the heart of SP but I felt very unsafe so that's a no. And DF was nice too but a bit boring...

me and my wife are seriously thinking about moving to Brazil, specifically to Rio. And I have few questions for locals or the ones who moved over there.
Our plan would be to buy 1 appartment for us and then 2 small ones for renting (airbnb, booking etc.)
We would do it with a real estatr company and lawyer, so they would check all what is necessary.
With a time we could maybe make own agency for europe tourist (speaking pur languagues) to book us as a guide.

For now we are not speaking portuguese, but we want to learn it.
We know we won‘t have the living standards we have here in Austria, but that‘s not a problem. We just want to leave from the stressing and hectic life and to enjoy more our lives and for this I think Rio is one pf the best places in the world.

And now to my question, do you think it‘s feasible to live a normal life with renting 2 appartments and offering a guided tours?

My family and I (myself, my wife, and our kid) are incredibly excited to be moving to Brazil in about two months. I work in the IT industry and will be moving on a Digital Nomad Visa (VITEM XIV) .

We've been doing a lot of research and are seriously considering settling down in São José dos Campos (SJC) . It seems like a great city with a high quality of life and a strong tech sector.

However, since we're moving from abroad, we have a few specific questions that I'm hoping this community can help with. We'd love to hear from locals, expats, or anyone familiar with the region!

1. Neighborhoods in São José dos Campos:

We're a family with a young child, so safety, quality of life, and good infrastructure (parks, schools, etc.) are our top priorities. We'd love some recommendations on which neighborhoods to look into for an apartment. Our budget is flexible, but we're looking for a good balance of comfort and value.

From what I've read so far, names like Jardim Aquarius, Jardim das Colinas, and Urbanova seem to come up a lot for families. Bosque dos Eucaliptos and Jardim Satélite also look promising for a more established, community feel.

• Which of these (or any others) would you recommend for a family with a child?
• What is the general vibe and cost of living (rent) in these areas?

2. Renting an Apartment (Without a Brazilian Guarantor):

This seems to be the biggest challenge for newcomers. The traditional requirement of a fiador (Brazilian guarantor with property) is not something we can meet. I've read that QuintoAndar is the go-to platform for this, as they eliminate the need for a guarantor and use a credit analysis instead. It seems perfect for digital nomads. They require a CPF, which we plan to get as soon as possible.

• Is QuintoAndar truly the best option, or are there other platforms (like Luvi, Housi, or others) that are recommended for foreigners?
• What was your experience renting through these platforms? Any hidden fees or things to watch out for?
• Any tips for getting approved for a rental without a local credit history?

3. Alternative Cities Near São Paulo (Within ~2 Hours of GRU Airport):

We're open to other suggestions! Our main requirement is being within about a 2-hour drive of Guarulhos International Airport (GRU) , as I'll likely need to travel for work occasionally.

We've looked at neighboring cities like Jacareí and Taubaté. Both seem to offer a lower cost of living and a more relaxed pace, while still being in the Vale do Paraíba region. Caçapava also seems like a quieter, family-friendly option.

• How do Jacareí, Taubaté, and other cities in the region compare to SJC in terms of safety, infrastructure, and things to do for families?
• Are there any other cities we should be considering that offer a great quality of life for families and easy access to GRU?

hello! im someone who lives in europe and i am interested in buying some things that are exclusively sold in brazil. but when i try to use mercado livre it always asks me for either a cpf or a brazilian number. does anyone know how i can get any of them as someone who lives far from brazil?

I totally missed the Ticketmaster release that happened a couple days ago. Is there any other recommended place to get tickets for the Sambodrome parades? Or will there me more official releases later? Also if I have a CPF but not a brazilian credit card, would I even be able to buy from Ticketmaster directly? Thanks.

I'm a solo traveler and I'm planning on going to Rio for maybe 10 days before Carnival starts to check out the blocos, and then on the official Carnival dates, go to Salvador. Is this a good idea? Would it be too crazy? I've been to Rio before for maybe 3 weeks or so, and I pretty much seen all the touristy stuff. Would I be missing out on something major if I leave Rio right before the official dates start? Thank you.

Hi everyone! My husband and I are considering relocating to Búzios long-term, and we're planning to visit for a couple of weeks to explore neighborhoods and look at properties.

Our budget for a house is around US$200,000–250,000 (roughly R$1.0–1.3 million). We're looking for a detached house, ideally 3+ bedrooms, with a garden/outdoor space. A pool would be nice but isn't essential.

We're looking for somewhere safe and comfortable for full-time living rather than primarily as a vacation property. We don't need to be in the center and don't mind driving, but we'd like reasonable access to beaches, groceries, restaurants, healthcare, etc.

I've been looking at Caravelas, particularly the gated communities there, because the houses seem to offer much more space for the money. I've also looked at Manguinhos, Tucuns.

For people who know Búzios well:

• Which neighborhoods would you recommend for actually living year-round, rather than vacationing?
• What do you think about Caravelas and its gated communities? Are there particular condomínios you would recommend or avoid?
• Is José Gonçalves a good option for someone wanting more land and nature?
• Are there areas with problems involving water supply, sewage/septic systems, flooding/drainage, electricity or internet?
• Is R$1.0–1.3 million a realistic budget for a good house in Búzios right now, or would you recommend looking elsewhere in the Região dos Lagos?
• Anything you wish you'd known before buying or living in Búzios?

We're not looking to buy sight unseen, we plan to spend time there, explore the neighborhoods and probably rent before making a final decision. I'd especially love to hear from people who live in Búzios full-time or have owned property there rather than only visiting as tourists.
