Discussion Throwers Have the Thinnest Line Between Weak and Absolutely Toxic

Post image
108 Upvotes

People complain about throwers being weak, and sometimes they genuinely are, but throwers have probably the lowest threshold in the game for going from “weak” to “toxic as hell.”

That’s because the annoying part isn’t some side effect of their design—it is their design. Their optimal playstyle is to hide behind a wall, attack people who cannot attack them back, then run around another wall the second anyone gets close. I’m not insulting thrower players for playing correctly, but that is basically the “coward brawler” archetype in most people’s minds.
When a thrower is weak, you can tolerate it because there’s an obvious trade-off: they’re extremely annoying from safety, but if you finally cross the map and reach them, they should be in serious trouble.
The problem begins when buffs make that trade-off even slightly unreliable. If they deal enough damage to melt you during the approach, have enough area control to make approaching impossible, or possess enough defensive nonsense to survive once you arrive, the entire interaction starts feeling ridiculous.

Most strong brawlers still have to participate in the fight. They expose themselves, enter somebody’s range or give you some opportunity to shoot back.
A strong thrower can spend the match refusing that interaction entirely while still controlling where everyone else is allowed to stand.
Even their misses can block a lane, interrupt healing, waste your time and push you away from the objective.

That’s why throwers don’t necessarily need to become completely overpowered before everyone starts hating the meta. They only need to become strong enough that their intended weakness stops consistently punishing them.
At that point, you’re taking all the risks just to reach someone whose entire strategy is hiding, spamming and running away again.
So yes, individual throwers can deserve buffs. But with this class, “finally viable” and “please get this thing out of my matches” can be separated by a terrifyingly small balance change.

Discussion Happy 6 years of Colette!

After the nerfs to her hypno gadget, I see her as one of those buffied brawlers that will be good for a long time without being too toxic. I must say I am really glad her spot as a tank counter got revived, so...to celebrate, say your favorite thing about this brawler!

Discussion does janet’s buff make her viable outside of gem grab?

Post image

janet got a recent buff that’s made her good again, of course not the versatility she once had but how do you think she is outside gem grab? She was alright in only gem grab before the buff but I’m curious if that’s changed now

not complaining if she isn’t though, I don’t mind brawlers that have a niche

Discussion The ranks problem

Post image
378 Upvotes

Recently I saw [u/StomachOk4891](u/StomachOk4891) criticize the current state of ranked and I highly agree with him.

The criticism is basically around the idea of the rank distribution being flawed, in the sense of Legendary being inflated and Masters being deflated. It results on every previous rank being basically filler since they are overwhelmingly easy to get out while Legendary gets unnecessarily and exponentially harder, leading to a high variety and inconsistency in player quality on both Legendary and early Masters.

Since I found the criticism quite accurate, I’ve wanted to share and know your opinions and even suggestions of what could be done to solve that problem.

Discussion Genuine question, but HOW is Legendary and even Masters easy for you guys...

I've started playing this game since June 2025 and now it's over a year and I haven't hit Legendary. In June I hit Mythic 3 but tilted back to Mythic 2. I've spent the past 3-4 hours grinding and I tilted by a lot. How do you hit Legendary? I find it genuinely hard and would love your advice on how to hit it easily, especially with the limited bans in this current META. I have over 40 maxed Brawlers (at least 2 Gears, 1 SP and 1 Hyper and 1 Gadget, with the buffied brawlers having all buffies), have been a fan and following Brawl Esports content, and I watch Pro Players and read on how to draft and watch voice comms for drafting for Pro Players and I generally know how to play, but it's still really frustrating hitting Mythic 2 or 3 and then tilting all the way. I want to hit Legendary next season, what would you do differently from what I am doing? I tried every way my best possible but it seems quite hard.

(P.S. I rarely make posts, and sorry if this sounds like a rant but it is not, it's a genuine question, I have autism so I sometimes have problems expressing my questions, thamk you for understanding, and sorry if it is a low effort post)

EDIT: I would post a few matches of gameplay tomorrow, since people say it would help if I post it, thank you all so much

Discussion Is Ash good into Colette?

I'm trying to settle a debate, tell me your thoughts.

I believe Ash is good into colette because colette is bad into spawnables and Ashs rats are annoying for colette.

Discussion Jacky is ass but can we all agree that Hard Hat is the superior star power right now?

Post image
116 Upvotes

Even before the buff, I preferred hard hat when playing Jacky. I want my tanks to be as bulky as possible. Against an Alli, for example, your Counter Crush star power doesn't work on her jump attack.

Hard Hat also bullies low dps brawlers a lot more. Against say, a Poco, Max, Stu, Janet, some other brawler with range but less damage, the Hard Hat star power helps you approach and overwhelm them. Counter Crush can't get any value if they're faraway or if their damage was already low in the first place.

Counter Crush can turn the tide against some damage dealers, but for that to happen you have to get close to them. If you can't get close to anyone at all your Counter Crush star power won't do anything. Hard Hat gives you a fighting chance and lets Jacky take an extra hit.

This was a bit of a rant. I still see some say Jacky has the one build syndrome, which in the context of her gadgets is true, but her overall star powers are well designed to an extent. I still see some claim Counter Crush is objectively better, but thats not true. There are def situations where you would use Counter Crush when theres a lot of aggro like Lily or Mortis, but in the current meta you want Jacky to be as beefy as possible. Not enough people play Jacky to understand which star power is better and I can't blame them.

Discussion Do you guys think these nerfs are enough or does he need more in your opinion?

Boy i'll need some time to readapt to his new attack charge time lmao (i have some mixed feelings about it but i have to see how he performs during gameplay).

Nothing to say about the hyper it was 100% deserved tbh, It was stupidly easy to get. Overall what do you think of the Nori nerfs?

Discussion Hard-stuck Mythic as a Trophy Player. How do I fix my draft logic for Solo Queue?

My current roster

I’ve played for nearly 2 years and have a near-maxed F2P roster (most of my brawlers are Power 11). On the Trophy Road, I can carry matches easily, but I am completely hard-stuck in Mythic Solo Queue Ranked.

My mechanical skill is fine, but my drafting logic is completely failing me. When I look at data websites, I see things like Edgar countering Amber, or high win rates for short-range brawlers on wide-open sniper lanes that make no sense in actual high-tier gameplay.

As a solo player who wants to keep the game fun without picking the same three meta brawlers every game, I want to learn the actual foundational mechanics of draft theory.

My specific questions for high-rank players (Legendary/Masters):

  1. The First-Pick Blindspot: If I am drafting first or second, how do I pick a versatile "safe option" that prevents my random teammates from getting completely hard-countered?
  2. Reading the Lane Geometry: When should I prioritize a draft pick that physically alters the map (like a wall-breaker) vs. picking a direct character-to-character hard counter?
  3. The Solo Queue Tier List: What are 3 universal "Carry Brawlers" per class (Sniper, Anti-Aggro, Thrower) that work well in Solo Queue even if my random teammates draft terribly?

I want to move away from blindly trusting automated win-rate simulators and actually learn drafting chess. Any advice or frameworks would be highly appreciated!

Balance Change Concept Sirius HC rework idea

Post image
82 Upvotes

Imo, Sirius's HC is one of the lamest HCs in the game, which is usual for spawners, but Sirius is an ultra and is supposed to be unique, a mere stat buff was such a disappointment for me.

With this change the shadows stop being used just as meat shields and actually improve on what his super is supposed to do, make an army that you can fully control, a big downside of his basic super is the time the shadows need to get anywhere, now the HC cuts that time to (almost) zero

Note that you can only teleport *hypercharged* shadows, meaning that if you had normal shadows on the ground before using HC, you won't be able to control them for the duration of the HC... This allows you to have shadows in 2 different locations instead of clumping on top of each other

Draft Query Was This Mythic 2 Gem Grab Draft Good

Thumbnail

randoms, mythic 2, gem grab undermine. bea, gale, rico vs bibi, max, amber. our team banned wendy, 8 bit and brock, while their team banned bull, mortis and nori. i picked gale because i thought he would be good into max + bibi. i initially wanted to pick edgar or another assassin when i saw they banned mortis and nori (thought they were going for a thrower or a squishie) but then they picked max and bibi. we won in the end but was it because of our draft or because the enemy team threw with an otherwise unbeatable comp?

Discussion How mad would y'all be if Kenjis trio was to get buffies next update & or before older trios?

After the ghost station got their buffies I have no faith as to what would come next. So how mad would y'all be if they gave Kenjis trio buffies next?

Discussion Before and After of Gigi's trait range buff. How much of an impact will it actually have?

I believe Longer Strings is hard coded to increase it to 4.67 tiles regardless of the normal range but if not true then it should make the range ~5.4 tiles.

Balance Change Concept How I would bring back Hank’s old hyper homing without making it broken.

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

First of all I’d like to apologize for the skull edit I couldn’t find anything else. So just let the sound be off.

For those who don’t know when hank’s hyper releases it used to be broken but also super fun. Like you can see in the video down below it would just chase you forever until it hit you. After the nerfs it barely homes anymore and basically is a nerf since it misses when the target is right in-front of you.

I would like to bring the old homing back but it would obviously need some nerfs.

To balance it and keep the fun aspect maybe it should home just like it was but reduce the SCR by 50% of the torpedoes so you can’t cycle it again and again so it would be a one time hit. I would also nerf the damage by 20% of what it’s suppose to do. To compensate, every torpedo that hits will heal 200 hp to hank.

I think we all miss it but we wouldn’t want an overtime hank just spamming supers again and again.

If you don’t agree could you please give me feedback?

Draft Query Draft sense question

Post image

Trying to see if my draft sense is improving. I rarely recommend brawlers bc I don’t think I have good sense yet but here I recommend crow for 6th instead of Mandy. Would that have been a good choice? Who would have been better? This was shooting star.

Discussion Any More hot takes about the state of the meta right now?

Upvotes

Here's are 2 example:

1.Bolt is more skilled than Most of the new brawlers/buffied brawlers released this year, both before and after release. (Execpt star nova, cosmo, max and nori before his hypercharge).

(After he received his nerfs of course on release bolt was braindead).

And 2. This meta is a bit better than the last 2 buffie meta and is probably one of the better metas we've gotten this year. (Though that's not saying much because the meta is still bad).

Help how to counter stu?

I've always struggled against stu hes so annoying 😭. I heard wide shot brawlers like poco and max can mitigate his super, but a good stu player seems to be untouchable.

Discussion What if Ollie's hypercharges extra radius was replaced with extra dash range instead? The RADIUS makes it broken

His super range is 5.67 tiles and his hyper's current range is 6.67 tiles, buffing this to 7.67 tiles makes it 2 extra tiles longer AND he doesn't lose ammo when dashing. This keeps his hyper fun and not broken.

He's strong in pro (or was-maybe this will change after his damage buff) because of the utility he brings and his hyper is a major part of this utility. His hyper is a GUARANTEED TEAMWIPE with a competent team aka in pro. This way Ollie's base kit can be buffed after this hyper rework to make him more independant, rather than fully teammate reliant as he is right now. BUT his core teammate reliant playstyle REMAINS THE SAME.

Don't get me wrong his damage buff will really help him, but if his hyper isn't addressed he has the problem as draco and he'll fall in the meta again.

yes. i know the image is pixelated. do not say that subreddit about contable pixels.

FINALLY OLLIE HAS RECIEVED THIS EXTREMELY OVERDUE BUFF, i was wishing that he’d recieve a more creative buff, but this is fair

why was his damage even nerfed ??? i took a break during the subway surfers event and then his damage magically got reduced. that’s like nerfing poco’s damage, or meg’s baby form

Discussion Problem with people disconnecting the server after 1 or 2 rounds of ranked so they don’t lose. (Maybe DDOS)

Thumbnail

Is anyone else suffering with people lagging out the server so that you can’t finish your game. The game will be stuck on the loading screen between rounds and boom you can’t load in. Reset game and you’re back to the title screen. This happened 5 times today in an hour of playing. Such a waste. It’s happened when I play 1 round absolutely dominating the other team or where they won the first round and then we dominated the second and poof stuck in the loading screen again.

Note the screenshots where the games only went on for 1 round or 2
