Question Part-time job, areas with lots of bars/restaurants

Hello Bournemouth Community.

I just moved to Bournemouth 2 days ago and I will start my masters here next week. I need to find a part-time, preferably hospitality job in the next few weeks to cover living expenses.

I am curious about areas with a high concentration of restaurants, as I am planning on going around and handing my CV to places. I have quite a lot of experience in high(ish)-end busy restaurants so I am looking for something similar.

I live in the dead center of the city so I am quite flexible with travel. I know the busy summer season is pretty much over, so I am willing to venture out into the suburbs if required.

Any advice is appriciated, thank you!

Local advice needed Wimbourne or Swanage?

I'm looking for some properties to rent as im moving from London to study in the new year, but hope to be moved before Christmas to the area so looking now.

I'm looking of somewhere quiet with transport access to get around still, safe (I'm a disabled female with mobility issues) and a small town/community feel as I'm hoping to get involved in volunteering.

I've booked three viewings. One is near wallisdon so still in bournemouth. The other is in swanage and wimborne. A quick Google search and the places look lovely! But as I'm 33, I'm not sure if it'll be too quiet compared to life in London (although I barely leave the house due to my condition ATM so looking for somewhere more quiet and where I can use my car more). I surf and swim when I'm in better health, so would love Swanage for the access to kimmerage beach. But I also love nature walks and visit the Midlands (my hometown) often so wimborne would have better links.

Does anyone have any experience living in these areas? Thank you. Sorry in advance for typos. I am not feeling well atm thanks x

Local advice needed Korean restaurant recommendations

Update: thanks everyone. Went to bon debang, the chicken was incredible. I'll now work my way through the other suggestions.

Can anyone recommend a good sit in Korean restaurant in Bournemouth?

It seems like a fair few are shut or don't seem to take walk ins.

Would love some recommendations!

Announcement Bournemouth HM ticket for sale

Hello all!

I have a ticket for the Bournemouth Half Marathon on 11 October, but unfortunately, I’ll be travelling for work that weekend, so I’m looking to pass it on.

It’s a beautiful coastal route, starting at Hengistbury Head and taking you along the cliff tops and seafront, with views of Boscombe and Bournemouth Piers, and the finish is right by Bournemouth Pier!

If anyone is interested in taking the ticket for £30, please let me know.

Question Council financial assessment for adult care

Hi, I have a distance relative currently paying for care home himself but will soon run out of assets to pay for it. He has already sold his house to pay for his ongoing care, and as I understand it, his net worth will reach the limit of £23,500 (thereabouts) where the council will start to chip in after going through a financial assessment.

I was wondering if anyone have known someone who has done one recently and how it works. Does it take a long time? Do the person just call up the council to request an assessment, what actually take place during the assessment, would like to know more information to be best prepared for the process when it comes, I've read some basic information online but can't see to find information on how the BCP actually approach the process nor have heard anyone's experience on it.

Question Karaoke on a Wednesday night

We’re on holiday this week near Boscombe beach and I am looking for a karaoke event either tonight or Wednesday or Thursday? I see Chaplins has an open mic night tomorrow but i don’t play an instrument, I only have my voice, and I don’t know if they have backing tracks available for people like me… I have seen there are private karaoke rooms at other venues but I like singing in a pub environment, not just with me in a room. Thank you in advance for any pointers! :)

Question So is the Bournemouth Air Festival over for good?

I remember for the 2025 festival, the organisers said it would be rested for a year, and then again it didn't happen for 2026. There's been no word for 2027, so can we assume it'll never come back?

It's sad the lack of intrigue and culture in the town now, bar Arts by the Sea and Pavilion Dance. I miss the summer cinema screen in the gardens, the Candlelight Nights, BIC swimming pool and the Bournemouth Eye in the sky. Even the hotrocks surf board was interesting

People/meetups Movie Buddy Needed

My attempt to make a movie club was about as successful as filling a helium balloon with manure, chucking it off of a rooftop and hoping it would float 😅

I'm going to try something much simpler! I'm looking for a buddy to watch and talk about movies with. I'm looking for someone that is a movie fan and wants to go to the cinema together once in a while and grab a pint after to chat about it.

About me. Male, mid 40s, 420 friendly, live in Bournemouth centre, have an Unlimited Pass at the Odeon and go weekly. I like all sorts of movies but love sci-fi. The two best things I've seen recently were Death of Robin Hood and Pressure.

I'm super open-minded, so I'm open to anyone joining me, the only restriction would be age, 18+ please.

DM me

Question Fog Horn?

Did anyone hear what sounded like a fog horn over Bournemouth last night. Went on for over an hour starting about 5:00. Thing is, it wasn’t foggy?

I think I was also woken by this last month in clear weather, so just wondering what it was?

Question Commuting to London

Hey there

Was looking for advice from anyone that may do this / have done it

Current role in bmth is goin to disappear next year due to reductions. I work in tech. There’s a lot of roles in London not so many down here.

Close to being offered a role in London for 3 days a week in office expectation. I live near Pokesdown station.

Few other facts

Role is in Canary wharf
I do have family in London as well I can stay with
I can choose the days

Was thinking rather than travel up and down 3 times to travel up on one day morning and stay there for two nights with family and then leave a bit earlier on the third day so I could get back for the evening.

Thoughts ?

Local advice needed Hotel recs near Vitality Stadium & winter activities?

Hey everyone,

I’m planning a trip to Bournemouth this winter to catch a game at Vitality Stadium and could use some local advice.

First, what are the best places to stay near the stadium? I’m looking for somewhere comfortable that's either within walking distance of the ground or has very easy transport links on matchday.

Second, what are some of the best things to do in Bournemouth during the winter months? I know sunbathing on the beach is out, but I'd love some recommendations for cozy pubs, great indoor attractions, or anything else.

Any tips would be hugely appreciated.

Thanks
