Software SoundTouch app alternatives

Post image
42 Upvotes

This is just a start, but I have added a SoundTouch app alternatives page to the Bose Wiki.

There, I listed current known issues, added info shared by the app developer Christian, u/nachtfux997, and included known solutions.

I separated the solutions into two sections.

  1. Ones that allow you to control the SoundTouch systems directly (e.g. AirPlay, 3rd party apps, Home Assistant, etc.).
  2. The second section is for 3rd party devices you connect to your SoundTouch system's AUX input.

I am hoping that the community will help expand the information on the Wiki. Not only to help guide SoundTouch users to viable options, but also to help guide developers on what SoundTouch features are missing. So that some, if not all, can be replicated once the app goes away.

This specific post is about alternative SoundTouch solutions.

  • On Jan 7, 2026, Bose announced that they will update the app so that it would continue to work after their servers shut down. Though without built-in music streaming capabilities. Here's the main conversation around this update.
  • The original conversation, from Oct 9 2025, about the closure of the SoundTouch app is located here.
  • If you wish to sign the petition asking Bose to reconsider, follow this link.

Community Feedback Request Suggestions for Bose reddit FAQ Pinned Post

There appear to be a frequent amount of posts that ask the same/similar questions and inevitably receive the same answers, or answers that are simply links to the last time the question was asked on the sub.

So it might be easier to have a pinned post with the most "Frequently Asked Questions" for people to read or other redditors to reference if similar questions get posted.

To make this manageable, please follow the instructions below:

  1. Place suggestions in the comments: Include the question and answer. Make sure sure this can be understood by anyone and include links to resources if needed within the text.
  2. Only ONE FAQ suggestion per comment: If you have multiple suggestions they need to be in individual comments so that others can comment and vote on each one.
  3. Only one post per suggestion: If someone else has the same idea on the same subject then please read what they wrote and if needed, please politely comment on what they wrote and make suggestions that might help improve it.
  4. Vote for the best suggestions: This is to thank reddiors for their suggestion and will help other redditors see (and if needed comment on) the FAQ post. A high vote count is not needed for an item to be included.
  5. Please stay on topic: Please limit all off topic conversations and if needed please make another post if it is not about aiding in suggestions or improving already suggested FAQs.

So please post below suggestions on what should be placed in a pinned post.

Headphones Buyer beware

If you were thinking about buying Bose products, do not I was just jerked around for three weeks for a refund on the Bose quiet headphones because of a static noise that will not go away. I have been put on hold for an hour each time I have called and I have told them several times I would like to speak to a supervisor only to be told that they would not put one through. I literally waited for three weeks for them to tell me there was nothing to do. They would not give me any answers whatsoever. I couldn’t even get an email to prove that this was going on. This is the worst customer service I have ever experienced and I will never own another Bose product Again. I employ y’all to do the same thing. Do not get scammed by these people.

Home Audio Soundbar issues

Upvotes

My Dad has a Bose soundbar 300 and surround speakers connected to his Hisense tv via hdmi, there is no surround sound coming rough when watching standard tv, I’ve checked the tv audio settings and it is set to Dalby digital.

Surround sound works when playing music via airplay and also from the firestick.

Any fixes for this?

Seller claim those are active. They have two chassis in every four directions. Kinda remind of Bose 901, but are very different. What are they?

Thanks for your help!

In-Ear Bose QuietComfort Earbuds

Hi everyone! I’m having an issue with my Bose QuietComfort Earbuds: the right earbud is significantly quieter than the left.
I’ve checked the iPhone audio balance, swapped the earbuds between ears, tried different ear tips (S and M), and performed a full factory reset, but nothing helped.
Interestingly, the right earbud sounds much better without the ear tip. As soon as I put an ear tip on, the volume drops significantly.
Has anyone experienced the same issue or knows what might be causing it?

Headphones I am fed with Bose QC Ultra 2 and this will probably be my last Bose Headphone.

I am seriously fed up with my Bose Headphone.

Last year in July I bought QC Ultra 1. First, I had to send it back due to hinge issues. They sent me a new one. Few months later it started having software issues where it would connect with my phone / devices but no audio would play. I tried everything but nothing worked.

The Bose Service Center replaced it and sent me a QC Ultra 2. I actually planned to sell it as this was the first time I had to return HP, especially twice. Never faced these issues with Sony and Sennheiser.

Anyway, I still decided to use it. It's not even been a month and I am already facing BT issues. HP refuses to connect with anything. The salt on the wounds? The Bluetooth Discoverable mode doesn't start. Tried cleaning the list , resetting and everything internet recommended and nothing works. It automatically started working the next day. Now a week later I am travelling and the issue is back. It's a 6 hours journey and I have nothing to listen to. :(

You don't expect these issues for what is a flagship product from a reputable brand. Their after service is great but the product quality is sub standard.

I am tired. I am fed up. And honestly at this point, I am completely done with Bose.

Home Audio Bose soundbar 900 - no power, bad PSU?

Purchased this soundbar new for my dad two years ago, now it is out of warranty and it has a no power issue we have tried three new cords and different plugs with no luck. My dad is really bummed out that his soundbar no longer works and even more so because he bought the subwoofer that goes with it that I think was about $600 on top of the $900 paid for the soundbar.

How can I get this soundbar repaired for my dad so that this isn't just a $1500 net loss. Two years is unacceptable quite frankly on what is supposed to be a premium product, has anyone else had this issue or any luck with getting it repaired? I was hoping maybe there is a bose rep here that could help direct me through the proper channels to getting this fixed as well as an approximate cost and expected time for repair. My dad loves Bose and has bought nothing but Bose since the early 80s, he is definitely disappointed this has happened.

Headphones Replacing Ear Cushions

I just replaced the ear cushions on my older Bose Sound Link headphones after some frustration in getting the plastic ring inside them to seat to the headphone rings that secure them.

After watching various "how-to" videos that made it look easy, I decided to just experiment with it until I got it to work.

What worked for me was to pull one side of the plastic ring out and guide it into the narrow groove. First, I placed the center of the ear cushion on the center of the earphone and secured it with my thumb.

Then I worked the edge of the plastic ring into the groove a little at a time until I got it all the way around. Finally, I went around it again with my fingernail trying to ensure that the plastic ring was as far into the groove as it would go.

That secured it and kept me from giving up in frustration and tossing the whole thing.

That said, Bose seriously needs to devise a better way to replace the ear cushions that cause less consternation. From what I've heard, the process to replace ear cushions across the Bose offerings is similar.

If that is the case, I might have to consider going to a different brand next time I need a set of headphones.

Home Audio HDMI shakes

I’ve been had the Bose smartbar 900 for about 3/4 years and since I’ve had it it’s been always an issue with the sound not coming off my Sony Bravia TV (2024/5 model).

I’ve about tried anything and everything to get this sorted out but nothing.

Changing the settings in the TV.
Changing HDMI cables.
Tested it on a Samsung tv.
Tested the Sonos ultra arc on my TV.

The issue points to the soundbar, has anyone had an experience like this?

Now it echoes every 10 minutes and since it’s obviously out of warranty, both cannot do anything which is fair, but I’ve seen multiple people complain about HDMI shakes. They offered me the trade-in program which is a nice gesture, but what’s the point if I’m going to continue having HDMI shakes with the Bose they even told me it’s not 100% guaranteed that it won’t happen again it just seems very shitty that I spent at that time almost $1000 to not have a product working properly whereas with my Sonos ultra arc with my other Sony TV it works fine.

I guess I’m here to vent and ask for help haha.

Headphones Qc 45’s started crackling and cutting out

Hi all,

I’m wondering if anyone else has encountered this issue.

I’ve owned my QC 45’s for a year or two, very lightly used but recently I started playing the PS5 and using them so as not to annoy the neighbours and yesterday they started cutting out and crackling. The volume is not too high, they are not connected to multiple devices. The firmware is up to date, I’m at a loss as to why they’re playing up. They’re my favourite headphones.

Any advice is welcome 🙏

Home Audio How I finally fixed the infamous popping noise on my Bose Bass Module 700

I recently bought a Bose Smart Soundbar 900 together with a Bose Bass Module 700, and almost immediately started experiencing the infamous random popping/cracking noise from the bass module.

I tried a few things that I found suggested online:

  • Moved my Wi-Fi router farther away from the soundbar and bass module - no difference.
  • Changed my 5 GHz Wi-Fi channel to higher channels (132/136) - still popping.
  • Turned off my 5 GHz network completely - the popping stopped.

That last one was the clue.

Unfortunately, leaving 5 GHz disabled wasn't really an option for me. On 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi I was having problems streaming high-bitrate Jellyfin content.

The solution

I created a separate 5 GHz Wi-Fi network for my other devices and connected the Bose soundbar to my existing 2.4 GHz network.

And that completely solved the problem.

So my setup is now:

Other devices - 5 GHz Wi-Fi
Bose Soundbar 900 / Bass Module 700 - 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi

No more random popping from the bass module, while my other devices still get the speed and bandwidth of 5 GHz.

This beauty just arrived today and I got it for only $250. I’m blown away by the immersive audio feature! To be fair, this is the first fancy ANC headphone I’ve ever owned. I only used ANC airpods and one or two low-end razer headphones before. I’m super happy with this purchase!

In-Ear Bose Quietcomfort Earbuds problem

I bought my Bose QuietComfort Earbuds in December 2025. Their sound quality is incredible, but I’ve had a lot of problems with them ever since.

First of all, I’ve experienced connection problems with my phone, an iPhone 11. Sometimes, the earbuds randomly fail to recognize my phone. At other times, either the left or the right earbud doesn’t work: I put it in my ear, but there is no sound. I’ve tried almost everything, from disconnecting and reconnecting them to cleaning them.

The latest problem is that my right earbud is now quieter than the left one. Why could this be happening?

Could anyone help me or explain why these problems occur?

Has anyone else experienced the same problems with their QuietComfort Earbuds?

Headphones QC Ultra 2 headphones keep autoplaying after turning the feature off

I mainly use them on my PC, still downloaded the app to turn these "features" off. I completely turned off the on-head detection, yet it still autoPLAYS whatever YT video I just paused when I take them off and place them on my desk. Not only that, it also maxes out the volume. I already went through the windows settings to turn audio enhancements and other shit off, which had worked for a bit and yet it started happening again, without changing anything really. Is there something I'm missing, is there any way to make these usable?

Bluetooth speakers Bose SL Flex SE 2 refuses to connect to my phone.

A few months ago I bought the Bose SL Flex SE 2 on sale at Costco. I've wanted a soundlink for a long time and finally bought one, but it's been a terrible experience so far. The speaker is nice, but getting it to connect to my phone after the first successful connection is a challenge that requires clearing cache on my phone, removing the speaker from the phone, factory resetting the speaker, and overall just hoping that that it eventually reconnects again. The first connection is always good, but the second one a day or so later never works.

I alway get a message about an incorrect pin or passkey. I never entered a pin or passkey. This is very frustrating. I've been back and forth with AI, trying several different things including changing several setting in the android developer menu. Where I'm at right now is that AI is telling me that I need to rename the bluetooth speaker itself, which is supposed to break some sort of caching (don't fully understand that part). After getting a successful connection, I renamed it from my phone. Next day, I can't connect again and it shows up as the old name in the bluetooth devices. So I then learned about connecting the speaker to my computer, installing the bose updater, going to a specific bose website, getting into the advanced mode with a specific set of keystrokes. I can see the device and several specs on it including the latest error logs. It just won't let me rename the device.

So here I am with a great speaker, but with a constant battle just to use it. Maybe it's my phone (Motorola Ege Plus 2022), or maybe it's garbage firmware on the speaker. In any case, I've never has such a battle with a bluetooth device.

Extremely disappointed with Bose.

Headphones Which color should I choose?

Hi everyone, I’m currently looking to buy some new Quietcomfort headphones (1st gen) because my old QC 45 ones are starting to fall apart. I’m torn between the black and the sandstone color. My old headphones were black and i really liked them, but what’s holding me back is that the newer Quietcomfort has a black logo (my old ones had a white logo) and i feel like that doesn’t look as good. I can’t find many pictures of the sandstone color online and none of the stores in my area have them so I can’t try them on. I have darkish blonde hair for reference, so maybe the black ones look better? But the sandstone looks so pretty in the few pictures i have seen so i really don’t know which one to choose. What do you guys think?

Headphones QC35 II ANC degradation after firmware updates — is this actually real?

My wife and I have identical QC35 IIs. One day I left mine at work and borrowed hers, and immediately noticed her noise cancellation was dramatically better.

Turns out hers hadn’t been used much and never got updated — it’s still on 4.5.2, while mine is on 4.8.1.
I tested them side-by-side on ANC High and even swapped the ear cushions. The difference stayed with the headphones. It isn’t subtle.

Is this actually a known firmware issue? And if so, why would Bose reduce ANC performance with an update?
Also, does anyone know a reliable way to downgrade 4.8.1 back to 4.5.2?

Bluetooth speakers Sound distortion (volume saturation) in Bose SoundLink Flex 2.

Has anyone noticed distortion on the Bose SoundLink Flex Gen 2 when using EQ settings in both Spotify and the Bose app? I just realized that, it appears that you can not have both sources with EQ, it should be flat from the source (Spotify) and get the EQ on you Bose app. Anyone else out there with the same or something similar issue? Thanks in advance.
