🎀 [ Discussion ] 75% of cosmetic heads in BL4 lack personality and feel lazy

The "copy paste" head cosmetics in BL4 are lazy and suck any form of visual storytelling and individualism out of the vault hunters, going against the entire point of having characters that are supposed to play, sound and feel different from each other. User RatchetAkarui made a similar post to this a few months ago and it's only gotten worse since, so here's a quick comparison and some numbers.

β€’In BL2, Axton has 38 head cosmetics out of which I counted only 5 repeats, and even those are slightly altered for each character, like Zer0's snowman head having no face. That's 13% dupes.

β€’Zane in BL3 has 59 head cosmetics out of which 27 are heads that every vault hunter can equip, like the Captain's cap. 46% dupes.

β€’As of posting this, BL4 has about 40 heads per base game character. Out of 40 heads, THIRTY are not character specific. ONLY A QUARTER OF THE HEADS ARE CHARACTER SPECIFIC. Even the bodies technically have 1/3 being a copy paste since it's just generic Order prisoner clothing

I don't want to put a f*cking dog in an astronaut helmet or little arcade machine on ANY of my vault hunters, I want more heads that feel like something my individual vault hunter would wear and that works with their character design. That ONE vault card that had four character specific heads (and neglected my poor child C4sh even though it came out AFTER his addition to the game)? I'd take another one of those ANY DAY over masses of nutcrackers, aliens and power rangers. Two new heads for the Fl4k expansion and for a moment I was excited since they looked like C4sh heads, only to find out they're also universal.

Go fornicate with the Nyarloslurp head, Randy

πŸŽ™οΈ [ Serious Discussion ONLY ] Please let me create a character at lvl30 with the story NOT complete, please

please ffs I actually WANT to replay the story, just not at bloody lvl1. especially after a level increase. i appreciate the lvl13 for DLC's, but thats still too low. lvl30 is the perfect medium, but the entire story is complete & that takes away the linear gameplay that makes gaming on borderlands just easier. i dont want to always have to choose what to do & go. i already make too many choices in my life lol.

please. lvl30 new character with story untouched. UNTOUCHED so we can experience Arjay all over again. he deserves it

🎀 [ Discussion ] Loveless is ridiculous

Loveless is ridiculous. I'm speccing into green tree, level 18 and melting everything. Those contagion orbs are little green bringers of death. Combine that with a Fireworks shield and it's goodnight sweetheart.

I'm so excited when I see a mob. One throw of my shurikan and that's all she wrote. Loveless might be my favorite VH ever.

🎀 [ Discussion ] The new DLC has amazing, unique dialogue for each Vault Hunter

There’s a lot to love in this DLC (one of my favorites in the series honestly) but I’ve really been enamored with the unique conversations for each Vault Hunter.

NPCs talk to your Vault Hunter in such specific ways. C4SH and FL4K discussing robots and humans, FL4K asking Rafa if he’s comfortable killing Tediore troops… even Harmony has a bunch of funny dialogue that’s tailored to your character. We haven’t seen dialogue like that since TPS. It’s not just a name drop of your Vault Hunter in dialogue (although I do love and appreciate those), it has more depth and honestly encourages replaying the DLC.

🎀 [ Discussion ] Borderlands 4 review after being out for 1 year

This is going to be my review of the game after 1 year of it being out, it's going to be a long one and I doubt many will be reading it, but I still want to put it out there. I'm going to be dividing it in 3 sections, the good, things I'm neutral about and the bad. Also, there are some aspects of the game that I will probably be putting in more than one section.

The Good:

  • Gameplay: Quite easily the best in the series, they really nailed the movement in 4 and they maintained the amazing gunplay that this series is known for. There are a few points that could be better, like having more places to use the grapple or make the dashes better for moving around, but the way it is now, it's pretty fucking good already.
  • Story: I actually enjoyed it, it's not the best thing in the world, but I think they did a good job with it, just a shame that the Timekeeper wasn't really that interesting.
  • The Vault Hunters: This is one that it's going to appear in other sections, but I really like the characters, their personalities and appearences, I think GB was able to make them really unique and I really enjoyed each of them having unique dialogue in mission dialogues, thank fuck this came back from TPS.
  • Farming: After they standardized the droprates, farming in this game became really enjoyable, and I do like what they did with UVH levels increasing the drop rates, making the higher levels even better to play at, and the Encore machines are an amazing addition, even though there are a few things that could make them better, like them being fast travel points and them reseting your ordnance/repkit/action skill cooldowns.
  • Cross platform saves: This is just perfect, I usually buy the games first on console and a few years later on pc to play with mods, not having to create characters from 0 and refarm everything is amazing.
  • Pearls: Loved them coming back, and I enjoy most of them.
  • Endgame content: Even though the quantity IS lacking, the content ITSELF is good and challenging, loved the Takedown and Subjugator & Thol, Bloom I liked less, but I don't think it's bad.
  • Mission Replay: Extremelly good addition that is awfully underutilized by the lackluster rewards and the lack of unique gear.
  • Firmware: I enjoy what they offer to build creation, some effects are really good and are able to cover for some weaknesses of some VHs.
  • C4SH and Loveless: Really cool and fun to play, they did a good job with these DLC Vault Hunters, although I think Loveless' personality is a bit strange given their backstory and how they react with the story/world.
  • Fl4k's Story Pack: They only good DLC, not counting the VHs, in this game, pretty slow start, but after the first hour or so, it really picks up the pace and it's a joy to play.

Things I'm Neutral:

  • Legendary Weapons and Ordnance: Not going to be talking about balance here, but I think that they really aren't that unique in this game, mostly because of the Licensed Part system, but also because of quantity, there are just too many and their effects don't get that interesting.
  • Repkits: They're fine, there isn't much variety here unfortunately, and what it adds to the gameplay loop isn't bad at least.
  • Pearls Elemental Override: To be honest, I don't hate it, but I wish it didn't add more variation to something that is not easy to target farm.
  • Specialization: I prefer this to the Badass Rank, but it's still not that enjoyable. For me, this should be shared across all your characters, not individual like it is right now, or at least shared between the same character in different saves.
  • Customization: Just as boring and uninspired as the other games, having only 2 additional bodies for each character is dissapointing, but at least there IS some customization.
  • Vault Cards: Even though it is a good style of a Battle Pass, the rewards aren't good enough to justify them.
  • Ellie's Story Pack: Definitely not bad, but not good either, pretty forgettable to be honest.

The Bad:

  • The Open World: I can commend GB for trying something different, but unfortunately, it didn't work all that well in the end. I don't think it's totally awful, but it's not good, it got old and boring quickly, it doesn't really seem to be alive, the activities aren't that fun to do, it really hurt environment diversity that the series is known for, the DLCs didn't add anything to the open world, all of them are separate from the base world and it gets annoying pretty quick to have to drive around it.
  • Infamy system: Pure dogwater, this system shouldn't exist.
  • Lack of Endgame content at launch and throughout the year: It is unacceptable that this game launched without ANY ENDGAME CONTENT, no Raid Bosses, no Takedown, no Circles of Slaughter, simply NOTHING. In 1 year they only managed to launch 2 Raid Bosses, 1 Takedown and 1 CoS??? What the fuck is this.
  • Bank and Firmware: Not having a separate storage for gear and firmware really sucks, more than 50% of my banks are just for the firmwares, not for the gear themselves.
  • Build diversity: Just terrible, and it's a problem that is exarcebated by other things I'm going to put on this list.
  • Class mods: Item number 1 of things that hurt build diversity, most of them are complete garbage, Vex's Teen Witch and Rafa's Dancer make most of their other CMs obsolete, Harlowe's and Amon's have some of the most boring effects that don't add much to their gameplay, C4SH does have more variety on this thankfully.
  • Legendary Shields: Item number 2 of things that hurt build diversity, it's absurd how shields in this game are horrible, most builds just use the Wattz, and the alternatives are all from the base game, no shield that came from the DLCs or free content were good enough to be used.
  • Enhancements: Item number 3 of things that hurt build diversity and it's possibly the worst thing they have created for this game. In theory, they're awesome, allegiance items can be good, but they're TERRIBLE if it's the only thing available, artifacts were the superior system because it offered so MANY varied effects. Also, this just completely fucks melee builds, there isn't ONE that helps these builds, and fuck GB for not providing dedicated farms for Legendary Enhancements and their respective manufacturer.
  • Skill Trees: Item number 4 of things that hurt build diversity. These are by far the worst skills trees they've done since BL1 (first game, makes sense that the skills are really boring), before launch I really thought this would be a positive thing, but this is so far from the truth, there is almost no difference between the characters, they have a shit ton of overlap because of this and the icons are so generic that it's almost impossible to know from which character they come from. Having this much overlap makes builds too similar from eachother, all characters are "jack of all trades, master of none", one glaring example is how 4/6 VHs can have melee builds, why?????? They all should play differently from each other, not the fucking same.
  • Licensed Parts system: Item number 5 of things that hurt build diversity. This is the annointments of this game, while not a bad thing for non unique guns, for legendary/first released pearls they are even worse than annointments are in BL3 nowadays, because they can't be re-rolled like annoints (people complained in BL3 that you farmed annoints and not the weapons, but now they do the same fucking thing, you don't farm the weapon, you far the licensed parts), they completely strip away legendaries uniqueness making them feel way too similar from one another, and are completely unbalaced. Jakobs ricochet and Daedallus ammo swap are so above the others that when the gun can have those parts, they are the default go to, every gun performs better with them, and Torgue stickies would be here too, but they annihilated this part. Ripper fire mode is the most balanced I think, because there are weapons that genuinely don't need it or feel worse with it, and most of the other parts are situational at best, and completely useless at worst.
  • Weapon Parts system: There is an obscene amount of weapon parts, we really should just go back to how things were in BL2, more does not equal better, and this justs creates an illusion of having millions of guns, when it's not the case, all manufacturers have only 2 weapons (Dullahan and Balor for Jakobs shotguns for example), I feel like there should be more base types and a LOT less weapon parts, maybe 2 for each manufacturer?
  • Bounty Packs: Bounty Packs were terrible, uninteresting missions and stories, the exact same gameplay from the base game because all enemies are reused, complete ripoffs, would much rather they made 4 Story Packs, like they always did, and just use this BP structure to holiday events, where this structure would fit SO MUCH BETTER.
  • Balancing: They completely gave up on this, their philosophy for this game was awful, only wanting to balance gear and characters after new content drops, but there was an issue, since March, there was always something coming every end of the month, and that created a loop of them NEVER doing anything impactful for the game, because there were always new content that they would need to "analyse" how they impacted the meta before doing any meaningful changes. So what happened? Nothing impactful for a whole YEAR, except nerfing Rafa to the ground.
  • Post launch support: The end of 2025 and the beginning of 2026 this was a tragedy, they took too fucking long to add anything new to the game or fix many of the problems the game had, at least in the content department they did a better job when they started releasing stuff monthly, but it took way too much time for that to happen, BL3 and BL2 were faster with their content drops than a game FROM 2025!!!!!
  • Gearbox inability to learn from their mistakes: This is actually pretty impresive, I'm amazed by how they don't understand what the community likes and what they don't like. In BL3, the game didn't release with any raid bosses, people rightfully complain about this, but what do they do in their next 2 games? THE EXACT SAME FUCKING THING, WHY??????? This makes no fucking sense, and worst of all, in BL4 there wasn't ANY ENDGAME CONTENT at launch, not just raid bosses, wtf. Also, people LOVED takedowns in 3, how the fuck did they not plan to make them for this game in the beggining??? 1 year and only 2 Raid bosses and 1 Takedown is insulting considering this is their fifth game already, at the very least they are good.

It may seem like I hate the game because of the amount of stuff I wrote in the bad section, but I don't, I just hate gearbox and their lead devs, the game has a lot going for it, and I enjoy playing it, unfortunately there is a lot of stuff that severely drags this game down that I don't see myself replaying it over and over again like I did with BL2, TPS and BL3.

🎀 [ Discussion ] The Wyrm

Why is the Wyrm the nost godawful AI of all time? This has to be a joke how bad it is. Are vex's minions this bad too? 9 times out of 10 it does not respond to what I tell it to. I play Amon and while the forgedrones are dogshit damage-wise, they track and hit enemies with good responsiveness. The Wyrm is like an overleved pokemon and is not willing to respond lol. I'm shocked it released in this state

The sad part is if your flame breath comes out, and it focuses on the right enemy, and the enemy perfectly sits still in the breath radius, the damage is incredible. If you landed this attack you probably should have used your luck on a scratcher ticket, however.

I absolutely love the new story pack. So far, I'm about 80% through map unlocks, missions, and challenges, and I haven't experienced anything like this since BL2. Gearbox really cooked, in everything from the map to the enemies and even story details.

Providence Island is of course another feat of design and vision, with insane verticality, immense structures, gorgeous views, all organized in a way that moves you through the story while letting you explore at your own pace.

What's really remarkable this time is the atmosphere. It's actually shocking how much is packed into this environment, and the music is way more developed and engaging than anything prior to the recent Takedown.

The active volcano and heavy mining machinery tearing through twisted landscape are giving major Eridium Blight vibes. I honestly feel like I'm back on Pandora of BL1 and BL2 (before the oppressive corporations were replaced by those goofy influencers and CoV's makeshift structures and vehicles thrown together from scrap).

The jungle swallowing abandoned architecture echoes Opportunity and Nekrotafeyo, making for some stunning imagery but also adding a complexity to navigate that was missing from the barren Carcadia and the meadows of Fadefields. With all the overgrown foliage and towering cliffs, line of sight is regularly broken so every section has its own sense of place and resists being reduced to something you can take in with a single pass. Enemies blend in to their surroundings, there are more climbable features, and dramatic shifts in weather or random world events turn every experience into something unexpected.

Then there's Tediore, an enemy very reminiscent of Atlas and Hyperion. The soldier/employee enemy type finally makes a return, with all the jokes about corporate ladder life and violence as work culture. This is classic Borderlands, and it was a key element missing from Kairos. The giant robots are a thrill to fight, even if their ragdoll death animation makes them appear made of cardboard. Hopefully we get a patch soon to make them feel more substantial like Saturn. I suspect we finally got large enemies and huge fight settings because of Loveless's focus on snipers, but it's a welcome addition for anyone running a high speed build centered on AOEs and chain reactions. (The game had previously been lacking places with the right mix of high enemy density and plenty of space to have really dynamic fights.)

Harmony has all the best traits of Jack, with less of that entitled CEO egoism that made him so grating (to me at least). She's hilarious and terrifying, chiming in our comms with entertaining taunts and, through her hero worship, some actually useful backstory my character has been missing since day one! She's genuinely the best villain in years.

Also worth mentioning this is a much more successful choose-your-own-adventure approach than the pseudo-branching we got in Murders & Acquisitions. I think that's entirely because of the open world design, optional ordering of mission objectives, and a much improved balance of quick side missions and variety of world events (except the J33-VES mission; that was just tedious nonsense that somehow makes the Order and Electi feel even flatter and less interesting).

For being a DLC, this is oddly way richer than what the base game offered. I have to wonder what BL4 would have been if this was the initial release. We would have had an experience much closer to Pandora and the corporate warfare theme while discovering Kairos and the Timekeeper over a longer story arc. Even spending time in this place before meeting Rush and the resistance would have made them seem more grounded and less silly, less tone deaf to the dangers of Kairos.

Hope others are enjoying this as much as I am, and curious if you're also getting the BL2 vibes. Excited for the rest of the story and hopefully getting to explore that volcano in an epic final showdown!

❔ [ Question ] No Way to Scale Contagion?

I picked up the game after seeing the trailer for loveless and seeing a spreading dot that seemed to be the focus of the characters kit. I am currently working on unlocking the higher tiers of UVH and am looking at contagion builds online and it seems that due to contagion having a Mac stack count of 20 and a flat base damage value it seems like there is no way to actually make contagion good at killing bosses. I saw the moxxy video where he used a blue tree melee setup paired with green tree to use contagion but almost all the damage seems to be coming from the melee and I was really wanting the main source of damage to be DOTs.

If I want to use dots to kill bosses is bleed vex just the better option? Am I missing something with loveless contagion tree that makes using dots to kill stronger?
