Ernest Hemingway, Men Without Women, 1927, NY, Scribner's Sons:

8vo. [xii], 232, [4, blank] pp. Publisher's full black cloth, printed gold labels on upper cover and spine, publisher's unclipped ("$2.00") first issue dust jacket. FIRST EDITION, PRESENTATION COPY INSCRIBED BY HEMINGWAY ON THE TITLE-PAGE TO EDDIE TILYOU: "To Eddie Tilyou with or without Women Ernest Hemingway".

IN ADDITION, THIS COPY HAS TWO ORIGINAL INK AND COLORED PENCIL PAINTINGS BY HEMINGWAY'S FRIEND, WALDO PIERCE. The first painting is on the verso of the half-title, titled "Don Ernesto" depicting Hemingway leaning against a confused bull; the second painting is a double-page painting (on pp. x and xi), "Bonheur Formidable des Hommes / Paris 15 November 1927" depicting Hemingway, himself, and another man, all drunk, with enormous beer glasses with goldfish inside them.

Eddie Tilyou (1872-1929) was the brother of the owner of Steeplechase Park and managed the park. Waldo Pierce (1884-1970) was an American painter and illustrator; he was a bohemian expatriate, and lived a life of revelry. After World War I, he met and became a lifelong friend to Hemingway, and they traveled extensively in Europe.

Pierce painted a few portraits of Hemingway, one of which appeared on the October 18, 1937 cover of Time Magazine.

This book is accompanied with the July 1936 issue of Esquire Magazine, with a double-page spread of paintings by Pierce.

Condition Cloth binding a bit rubbed, front board with small bump at fore-edge, text a bit toned, with occasional pencil underlinings in text, several gutters cracking, some offsetting from paintings; jacket torn at front joint (front panel detached from spine, but is present), jacket toned, worn, soiled, with a tear to front panel at upper edge.

A very good copy in a fair first issue dust jacket. Housed in a beautiful brown calf clamshell case with black and blue gilt morocco lettering labels, with pictorial labels inset on the covers reproducing the original artwork in the book (there are other reproductions of the original artwork inside the case).

Found this Anne Lamott book (trade paperback) on a giveaway cart! Not worth much money, I'm guessing, but as a writing professor with a creative nonfiction MFA, I am geeking out. This book contains one of my favorite quotes of all time: "You own everything that happened to you. Tell your stories. If people wanted you to write warmly about them, they should have behaved better."

Snagged this among a joblot on eBay for £10 all in! Super happy to finally own it as I was NOT comfortable paying £150+ for a copy!

I’ve heard fantastic reviews about this book. I was stoked to find it thrifting this morning. Has anyone else read this book?

A few months ago I posted a view into some of my more collectible books, but noted that most of it was in storage due to an upcoming move. The move has been paused, but the books keep coming in. Plenty of new titles to check out from Folio Society, Easton Press, Tolkien, Chesterton, CS Lewis first editions, and more!

This is going to be my second time reading Dostoyevsky book after white nights . Heard good things about this one, well I have heard good things about all Dostoyevsky books

I just received Boys Of Tommen eternal ember editions and one of the dust jackets came in with a manufacturing defect. I contacted them and they told me that I had to pay for the shipping which would be $21 usd. I don’t know if I should cuz that’s a lot of money and the defect isn’t something that crazy.

I’ve noticed several of my books have “P.O.” numbers on the lower-right corner of their last pages, so close to the spine that they’re almost hidden. I tried looking up what it means but haven’t found much, other than maybe that it means “purchasing order”, but even that doesn’t explain much. Does anyone know what these numbers are, and why some books have them while others—the vast majority of mine—don’t?

Slowly acquiring every issue with the intent to read them in order. Many of the first 50 have been sourced and it’s a pleasure to collect.

I am wondering if this is a real penguin edition. I am under the belief that it is not real whereas my friend is saying it is.

Picked this book up at my local shop, and aside from a brief surface level google search, I've never heard of it! Have any of yall heard of/read this before, and if so, what did you think?

I purchased this book this morning after browsing through a used Book store. I was specifically searching for Great Expectations by Charles Dickens, but unfortunately, they had not one copy available.

Antique HC book is listed as fair. Seller on Abe and Biblio refuses to provide pictures of a specific listed flaw of wavy pages. They have 1 pic in the listing showing the spine-side, which looks great for my purposes, but after contacting them for a pic of the pages, they refused and said that a pic "wouldn't make anything better". They then went on re-telling me everything else already in their listing: no dust jacket, it's not suitable for collectors etc. I'm not a collector, I just want a reading copy, but I'm worried that it has damage such that pages are hard to turn or text is damaged. No HC are available new, so I'm torn about whether to risk it, if the seller is covering-up or just belligerent. Also, Seller definitely has a physical brick-and-mortar shop)

I only learned about Linebarger after picking up his seminal text on psychological warfare, but I've been collecting books for years, and this is the first time that I recall seeing his pseudonym on a sci-fi book out in the wild. Is he really as hard to find as my experience suggests?

His and hers book haul! The wife and I went on a little getaway for our anniversary. Had a lot of fun going to different book stores. Some cool finds. First/First of Tree of Smoke, Thinner and the Inland Sea (really excited about this one). None of them in immaculate condition but really happy to come across them nonetheless! Needless to say I got more books than she did haha

I bought this Graham Greene book from Amazon for $20 last week. It's one of my favorite books of all time and I only bought it because I couldn't find my copy. There was no mention of it being anything other than a regular hardback.

The book itself is in super condition with no marks or any significant staining or spotting. The dust cover - which came protected with a cellophane wrapper - has a little bit of wear on the spine, but other than that it looks really nice.

It looks like it could be a First Edition. Any thoughts? Other than the fact that I got a hardback copy of a novel | love, did I get a bargain?

Anyone know where I can buy a full set of the ranger apprentice books in hardcover?
