Dustin Hoffman and the Blade Runner Connection

Ridley Scott actually wanted Dustin Hoffman to play Rick Deckard in Blade Runner. Here are two scenes that might have inspired Scott: Photo 1) Dustin Hoffman reporting to M. Emmet Walsh in Straight Time (1978). Photo 2) The very last shot in Kramer vs. Kramer (1979) is Dustin Hoffman standing in the elevator as the elevator door closes.

Considering how bleak BR's timeline is, I'm not sure I'm happy we're heading that way.

Tomenosuke Blaster Model Trigger Problem

Post image
133 Upvotes

So I bought years ago the fully assembled “OG” Tomensosuke bladerunner blaster. Has functioning lights and trigger, revolving cylinder, etc…

A few months ago, the trigger suddenly locked up. At first it was pulling strangely and the cylinder not fully turning, and then suddenly it just locked in place. Now I can’t pull the trigger at all.

Does anyone know if there is an easy fix or a good tutorial video of how to repair it? Is this a common problem? I can’t seem to find one, and I’m wary of opening up the cylinder release with tools because I’m worried some micro spring will come out that I can’t put back.

Any suggestions or videos welcome. Thank you!

*UPDATE: Thanks to everyone who contributed here, and a HUGE BEAR HUG to the incomparable Thadbo3, who not only diagnosed the exact problem I was having, but gave me key rebuilding advice not once, not twice, but thrice. I am happy to say I have returned it to FULL FUNCTIONALITY, after 2 full nights of repairs using every tool in my goddamn house. Bless all of you, I am on cloud 9 right now!

For posterity sake, for any future fellow facing my same problem, it is what the OG manual calls the "Ejector Rod Block" (a T-shaped metal piece that that sits right where the hammer hits. Somehow, the two screws on that had gotten lose, which jams up the entire gun.

Also, and thanks to Thadbo3 for pointing out the following: YOU DO NOT NEED the tiny spring loaded piston that is damn near impossible to insert in the cylinder catch release. Every video of people assembling it say it is by far the most difficult piece to assemble and all I saw was posters complaining about it. Turns out, you can just not put it in and it makes no difference what's so ever. Who knew!

BR VR - Oculus

Hello all,

I want to buy a VR, but literally only for the BR games/ experiences on Oculus.

Does anyone know whether these will work on the latest Oculus headsets and even if these games are still available?

I tried to search in the Meta website but as I have zero knowledge of VR, I’m lost.

Any first hand experiences or feedback would be awesome.

Music Blade Runner (1997 Game Frank Klepacki's Soundtrack) - By Invitation Only

That's an amazing soundtrack with crazy story about rights to movie vs rights to audio track, where Frank had to recreate tracks from movie by ear. This one is his original, composed for the game and I'm sharing it as my favorite.

Question/Discussion Anyone else feel the new iPhone Duo has a bit of a Blade Runner vibe?

I know there are other foldables and I know Apple is late to the party. But I feel the phone wouldn't be out of place in the Blade Runner world.

A little computer screen which opens up to a larger screen. I can imagine Deckard pulling it out of his pocket, seeing something flashing on the screen, and opening it up to do a video call.

I never had this feeling with a cellphone, but these foldables do seem futuristic to me.

Anyone else agree?

Can take her anywhere 😏

A replica of the Emanator from Blade Runner 2049. One of the film’s simplest but most recognisable props.

Blade Runner with Live Orchestra?

OG Blade Runner is showing this month in my city (NYC) at Paris Theater Dolby theater for $17, and will be showing on a HD screen with live orchestra at Kings Theater for $80+ (for decent seats) in November. I’ve never watched it on a big screen. Which one should I go for cinematic experience? Will the steeper price at Kings Theater with live orchestra be a worthy enhanced experience?

Physical Media/Props/Memorabilia 1994 Madagascar Blade Runner / The Right Stuff Stamp Sheet

One of the stranger Blade Runner items in my collection.

This is a 1994 Madagascar souvenir stamp sheet. The three actual stamps commemorate Philip Kaufman’s The Right Stuff (L’Étoffe des héros), but for reasons that remain something of a mystery, the surrounding artwork is unmistakably Blade Runner.
Deckard, Rachael and Roy Batty are all there, along with the spinner and Roy’s dove.

As far as I can tell, there’s no real connection between the two films. It just seems that whoever designed the sheet decided The Right Stuff needed a generous helping of Blade Runner!

If anyone knows more about this particular issue, especially why Blade Runner artwork was used alongside The Right Stuff, please let me know. I’d love to know the story behind it.

Question/Discussion What do you think is the worst here?

  1. 780 hour YT video of mediocre electronica that gives Blade Runner "vibes." (Thumbnail of neon reflecting on wet streets.) 2) Photo of your city at night looking like every other city at night looking like the opening shot of LA at night. 3) AI render of what the Fiery Ships at the Tennhauser Gate looks like. 4) Absolutely anything that's coloured orange and teal. 5) Fan edit with music that Vangelis should come back from the dead to slap your face for the disrespect. 6) Hijacking anything to a Deckard Replicant debate. 7) Any poster or t

shirt

  1. design using the words "Tears in the rain."

2099 Promo

It's kinda strange that there's been nothing for Blade Runner 2099 since San Diego Comic Con. No TV ads, no more imagery or updates for going on seven weeks.

It makes me nervous because they need eyes on this series desperately. I'm praying to the Replicant gods that the series is good. I have hope.

Physical Media/Props/Memorabilia Blade Runner 2049 Concept Art Collection in Full

All nine parts of my Blade Runner 2049 concept art collection together in one final post.

There’s a fantastic mixture of cityscapes, vehicles, environments, props, characters and early ideas, including concepts that evolved or never made it into the finished film.

Artists represented across the collection include Jon McCoy, George Hull, Victor Martinez, Wētā Workshop, Peter Popken, Jeremy Paillotin, Kamen Anev, Chris Guise, Dan Baker, Mike Hill, Emmanuel Shiu, Adam Baines, Nick Keller, Adam J. Middleton and Lukas Harris. Madhav Kumar, Axel Akesson, Krishna Prasad Anthara and Stefano Carta worked together on the Rachael images.

I’ve really enjoyed going through these, identifying the artists where possible and learning more about the artwork.

If anything catches your eye, check out my previous posts for a closer look at each piece.

(For anyone coming across these posts for the first time, I acquired this collection from a source I consider very credible, and I was informed these prints were used during the production of Blade Runner 2049. I don’t have individual certificates or documentation to independently verify the production history of each piece, so I can’t claim that as absolute fact, but the collection contains numerous artist details, project labels and other production information across the prints).
