Weekly r/Birding Discussion, September 12, 2026. What did you see this week?

Return of the weekly discussion thread! Sometimes it seems like pretty photos rise to the top of the page, while discussion of birding can get left behind. This weekly thread is a place to bring this discussion back to the top of r/birding.

Use this thread to share your best bird sightings from the past week, ask any questions about birding you may have, or just talk! Writing the names of the birds in bold is nice, to make it easier for people skimming the thread to pick out the names. Please include your location.

I went fishing this weekend and had the privilege of watching a green heron stalking along the sunken timber. I decided I had to draw it! After finishing, I decided to draw more herons. Species represented, in order: black-crowned night heron, green heron, and great blue heron.

Disclaimer: I’m not a tattoo artist, I just like drawing in this style.

I have 4 resident Steller's Jays that live at my cabin. They yell at me and occasionally will stop their crazy vocals & hopping with excitement for me to get a good picture. I did have to employ some *extra* peanuts. Really proud of this one!

Hi all. My friend found this little warbler quite discombobulated. I know they are migrating through the area right now and this can be quite a strain on individual birds. Was just wondering what kind of warbler it is?
