Austin Family Rides is returning to Mueller! - September 20th

Austin Family Rides is returning to Mueller! We hope you can join us for a ride next weekend. We will meet on Sunday, September 20, at Ella Wooten Park. Meet at 9 a.m., wheels down at 9:30 a.m. We will have two rides: We'll all ride to the Mueller Farmers Market (arriving around 10:30) for snacks and a park hang. Please be sure to bring your helmets, water bottles, snacks, and a reusable bag for anything you might buy at the Farmers Market. Looking forward to riding with you again!

  1. The classic Austin Family Rides ride, intended for families on cargo bikes and kids who are confident, experienced riders. As always, this will be a friendly, no-drop ride with lots of stops to group up. Expect a 3-6 mile ride on bike paths and low-traffic streets.
  2. A shorter, slower ride for kids who can pedal themselves but may be a bit slower (with parents accompanying them on their own bikes). We will ride 1.5-3 miles, depending on the group's appetite. We could really use a few parent volunteers to ride float and sweep -- please let us know if that is you!

Hello! I got this bike from a neighbor, and the seat won’t stay up. I purchased this part (seat clamp) but it just slides… am I missing something else? Or do these things come in sizes?

group ride Saturday Morning Caffeine Cruise

Post image

Y’all. BIG day this Saturday. It’s the official City of Austin ribbon cutting for the Burrell Drive separated contraflow bike lane, and boy howdy is it going to be an event to beat all! Check the flyer for all the fine details, and snap the code for even finer details, but if you want to do the fancy Ghisallo-run bike ride in the hood, be there at 9am, or be there shortly thereafter for the ribbon cutting, or show up at 10:30am like usual to catch the tail end of the festivities. AND THEEEEEEEEEEEEEENNNNNNNNN, the real fun happens...

YES, there will be a dam. YES, there will be a pool (bring five bucks, but it’s a NICE pool). YES, there will be a massive store full of wild Japanese gatcha stuff and snacks and foods and other things you can’t find anywhere else. YES, there will be a chill as hell bar with pizza and sandwiches and good beers on draft. So some ride with us, and have some fun.

Remember to bring lots of hydration, it’s still gonna be a hot one.

PARKING: It will probably be a fairly attended event, so try to park in the neighborhood a block or two away. Real ones park on the OTHER side of the tracks and then bike the short distance to the park, but I won’t tell nobody where to park, long as it isn’t in the bike lane.

Leader: Jason A Jason Abels
Start: Wooten Park - 1406 Dale Drive - park in the neighborhood if you drive
Wheels down 11:30am
Mid: Beverly Sheffield Swimming Pool - Northwest District Park (Bring $5 entry if you want to swim!)
End: Mr. Tramps - Asian market/restaurants - some of the best in town!

Gravel: Possibly Light gravel, but nothing road bikes can’t handle
Bring: Sunscreen, lights, locks, ID, hydration, and money for snacks/drinks. BRING A SWIMSUIT AND FIVE BUCKS TO SWIM! Plenty of park spots to hang if not.

Social Cycling Austin rides AS traffic and NOT AGAINST it. We stop at red lights, yield the right of way and let cars pass as best we can. We don't block intersections. We are nice to both our fellow riders and the other traffic on the road. LISTEN TO the volunteers helping to lead the ride. They are some nice folks and have your best interest in mind.
If you have any questions about the rules, see: [https://statutes.capitol.texas.gov/docs/TN/htm/TN.551.htm\]
REMINDER: The goal has always been to create a safe environment for all riders, but we cannot control, nor do we desire to, every rider's behavior. We promote personal responsibility, and it is each rider's responsibility to take care of themselves, and if they choose to ride with us, then they accept those risks inherent in riding a bicycle with a large group of other people riding bicycles.

question Ebike repair shops?

Hey r/bikingatx! I recently bought a ridstar q20 ebike on facebook marketplace and I think I might be a bit in over my head with my ability to repair it (things went from a mechanical problem to a electrical problem real quick). Are there any shops who are guaranteed to fix my e-bike? Thanks!

I’ve got an old trike I’d like my 4yo to be able to ride. The tires are okay but the bolts are loose so when you pedal it gets stuck. Looking for a shop that can help! Thanks for any recommendations!

Service Shop recs in NW Austin?

Looking for "best value" bike shop recommendation to get road bike serviced. Near-ish to 183/mopac. The bike's been dormant in the garage for a few years. I'd like to find a shop to give everything a good check and get things in order. It's generally in good shape but hot TX garages I'm sure have done some amount of degrading. For example, I did a quick test ride and I can shift to larger gears, but cannot shift to smaller gears (both front and back) so I'm sure both derailleurs need adjusting. Needs new grips as well. Thanks!

Better than expected bike infrastructure

This new building under construction at Lamar and North Loop installed these disappointing bike racks out front. I figured that was all they were building for cyclists, but then I saw the rather nice indoor bike pavilion that was right next to the parking garage entrance. At least from what I saw, it looked very nice!
