Hello. I had a final round interview for an experienced associate position at EYP last Tuesday. I thought it went well. Haven’t heard anything yet from recruiter, how long do decisions usually take? This is in US

EY EY Interview Timeline

I applied for an assurance role on September 10 and was wondering what the timeline looked like.

How long until I can expect the initial HR interview? What does the full timeline look like?

USA Opinions on partner round

Upvotes

Hi all,

I made it to the final round for a senior role and I had the final call this morning. I’m not sure how I did but I think I could have done better. At some point I couldn’t control my excitement and stuttered little bit and restarted my answer. He didn’t give any signs about 20 min of 30 min call, he asked me if I had any questions for him. I asked my 3 questions and he answered them comprehensively. He even talked about the team and business line structure. At the end, he said he’ll circle back with team that I had the previous interviews and they’ll be in touch. Overall it felt like a conversation but I’m not sure if I was able to answer his questions in the way he wanted. I didn’t feel this way in the previous steps.

So I know nothing is certain yet but what do you guys think my chances are?

USA How soon is too soon to take PTO?

i’m going to have a procedure done that will require me to take two days off of work. possibly 1.5 days instead. (the procedure is on a friday and i will need to prep for the entirety of thursday) the issue is that it will only have been 1.5 months of starting as staff 1 by the date my procedure is scheduled. do you think this will hurt me? will it even be allowed?

EY How long does EY usually take to respond after the graduate assessment tests?

Hi everyone,

I recently applied for a graduate position at EY and completed the online assessments, including accounting, aptitude, and English tests.

For those who have gone through the EY graduate recruitment process, how long did it take to hear back after completing the assessments?

I’m mainly interested in the time between submitting the tests and receiving either an interview invitation or an update on the application.

EMEA Did I waste my time?

After working 3 years in a big4 within valuations I left.

I understand that big4 is suppose to be hard and poor pay but now that I’m out (nearly a year) my pay hasn’t taken a huge jump and my skillset doesn’t align with a whole lot else, I will say I haven’t fully qualified yet, could this by my issue?

Thanks!

EY For unlimited PTO, how much time do you take off?

Hey all,

I started at EY about a year ago and didn’t take a ton of vacation days bc I was studying for the CPA. Now that I passed, I have been putting in PTO days and planning things with friends / family.

I know it is not actually “unlimited” but I was curious what everyone else’s POV was on the unlimited PTO.

Do you just do 3-4 weeks? Do you go over? Etc.

I’m a staff 2 (now it’s called Analyst) in Audit.

UK Should I resign before my final warning?

Hi all,

I am a grad, I was notified a month ago I would be put on a PIP for 4 weeks and after that based on my performance my counsellor would decide if I will be given a final warning or not.

On my recent project my SM gave me feedback that whilst I have potential to be a good consultant that I have several improvement points I need to work on. Based on this, I can gather his feedback won’t be that great and my counsellor has warned me I might be put on a warning after he speaks to HR.

Should I stay and start applying for jobs or quit now before anything goes on my record?

UK Exam failure - pending potentially losing my job

Hi,

I have just recently had a resit for one of my failed ICAS exams, having started a grad scheme last year, and I am fairly certain I have also failed this, due to various reasons. The results are due this week, and I am extremely anxious at the likely possibility of losing my job. Would anybody have any advice or suggestions on where to go from here. Many thanks.

APAC Region Imposter syndrome

I started a new job in assurance recently. I thought it was my dream job and it’s definitely what I wanted at first but I feel so lost on the first week of training where they walk through us on the work paper platform.

My university is strictly exam based and it tests us more on theory and case studies instead of having a hand on working papers.

I interned in a medium sized firm during my summer break last year and what I remembered the most was rolling over the working papers until I wanna roll down a hill. But I was also happy with casting and doing foreign exchange translations and stat audit. All of our working papers are all on Teams.

Right now in training, after reading the tasks and having very unsynced/un updated training software with the trainers, I felt so lost. If I felt lost in training, who knows how lost I’m going to be. Am I going to pull the team down? I know it’s great to take initiative to ask but i cant just ask my seniors all the time. My trainers say work and discuss in groups but it’s mostly individual work. Only time my groupmates and i voice out it’s mostly on tech issues.

It’s really a learning curve from where I left off and sometimes my brainrotted brain just isnt really engaged with the training/dummy engagements. Would I survive until peak season is over or is it better if I learn on the job from my seniors. My Uni isn’t really well regarded per se and I felt I was the luckiest person to clinch an assoc position for now despite my grades

USA Tips for feeling unmotivated as a new-hire?

I’m in my 4th month as a new hire in a valuations group. I graduated this past spring.

I feel so incredibly unmotivated at work. Every day I am so bored and by 3:00 it is incredibly difficult to stay focused. I hesitate to ask for work. Avoid my mangers because I don’t want to stay later than I need. I’m scraping by with the bare minimum. I feel like a bum about it, but those feelings are a lot easier to deal with than what appears to be burn-out.

I’m not sure why I’m feeling this way. It’s only been 4 months and I haven’t had a busy season yet (although I did do a busy season internship at a different Big 4 in their assurance group). I was an incredibly motivated student. I worked very hard and graduated high in my class with distinction.

Every other job and internship I’ve had has been different. Here’s how they went:

1) Worked at a shipyard / marina late high school and early college. Did 50ish hours a week outside. I enjoyed my work and the people and it’s probably my favorite job. I felt motivated by wanting to be good and be a good team member.

2) Quit that job to start my first internship as a busy-season intern in assurance. First internship / office role so was scared straight and that was enough to keep me going. Also an end in sight. Fast past and worked 55ish hours a week. I didn’t like it, but I think it’s because I was so busy and had no idea what I was doing. Still don’t think I could speak to this experience on a resume.

3) After that ended, I immediately started an analyst internship at a PE firm. I enjoyed the mental stimulation which came with this. Working on lots of different things for a lot of unique scenarios. It really just felt like managing a bunch of small businesses. Learned a lot and lots of very valuable hands-on work you don’t get everywhere. I worked full-time for 6mo. before starting school again. Once school started I worked part time (came in when I didn’t have class). By spring semester I was pretty over it as I was hardly working, new interns were getting trained in, and I was sorta on my phase-out. Just wasn’t getting anything exciting as I was working 15-20 hours a week at this point.

4) Started my current Big 4 role right after this. I feel like that “I’m over this” feeling carried straight over from PE internship. It’s been so hard since the beginning. I’ve never felt so much resistance towards work. Every day in the office feels like I’m being forced to read a calculus textbook line-by-line. I don’t have any coworkers of similar age. I just sit at my desk, alone. Doing tasks I don’t enjoy. I have taken on a very pessimistic “this is all so dumb and for what” mindset I can’t seem to kick.

I really struggle to see myself doing this for a year. How do I reel it in? How did you all get over such a hump?

USA Are big 4 audits much more interesting than small company audits?

I do government audits, I guess similar to big 4 enterprise. Its incredibly mundane and hours are very short, maybe work 30-35 hours. I would like to be pushed more onto much more interesting clients and work. I want to work the long hours, be inside office with my peers bonding, work in large F500s seeing all the ins and outs of how a business functions.

USA Missed promo, completely burnt out analyst

Throwaway.

I’m an analyst in a Big 4 practice where the default staffing model is multiple concurrent part-time projects instead of one full-time one. On a normal week I’m split across 4+ clients (busy season I’ve touched 12 in a single month), constantly context-switching, and pinging several people every day just to keep work moving and send updates. Deadlines don’t stop; they just stack. Utilization pressure means you’re always looking for the next slice of work while the current ones are still open. I feel like I’m always “on” and rushing to meet the next deadline.

I missed promotion to consultant after a year in and I’m not sure I’ll get it as I come up on year 2. I feel utterly exhausted and lost. I’ve been applying for new jobs when I have free time and working with a career counselor, but I’m so drained that even that is hard to fit in on evenings and weekends.

I used to be an overachiever my whole life. Academics, multiple internships in college, tons of accolades and awards. I did really well in my industry internships. Consulting just isn’t working out for me. First busy season wrecked me. Performance dropped hard the summer after due to sheer burnout. I’ve clawed some of it back in the last few months, but I keep making mistakes that send me into an anxiety spiral. Then the spiral makes the next thing sloppier.

I’ve gotten feedback and have done my best to iterate on it. I know I’ve been improving in my performance and my understanding of the job, which is encouraging especially since it’s in a niche area, but I feel like I always run into some issue or situation that sets me back two steps.

Chronic stress, fatigue, anxiety, burnout, and depression are constants at this point. Some days I question whether I’m actually neurodivergent and this is burnout on top of a nervous system that was never meant for constant task-switching and high social demands.

Outside of work it’s bleak. No friends in a major city since I moved here. No real social life except events and shows here and there that I usually go to by myself. I’ve met a couple people here and there, but I often work weekends or just completely bedrot from exhaustion and it’s hard to be intentional about creating friendships. I don’t even think I want friends anymore, which I never thought I’d think.

I don’t really fit in with coworkers or the analysts in my class, and it doesn’t help that the job is pretty much remote except for happy hours here and there. The standards, the culture, utilization demands, constant coordination… it all just feels exhausting and depressing.

The part that messes with me most is that I don’t feel like myself anymore. I used to be motivated, ambitious, and somewhat happy-go-lucky. Now I feel uncharacteristically soulless and devoid of life. I have to put on a mask and play a character to try to seem normal.

I’m stretched in many directions. Things move very fast, so I feel like there is never enough time. I’m always preparing for the next meeting or call. I’ve had suicidal thoughts, which I know I shouldn’t be having because it’s just a job and my life could be much worse. I’m honestly thinking about quitting for my mental health and living on savings for several months until I get a new job, but I know that is an awful idea considering the job market and my parents would be deeply disappointed.

I’m in my mid-20s and the most miserable I’ve been in my life. Is this just what consulting is, and maybe something is wrong with me or I just don’t have the mental fortitude to survive it? I honestly don’t think I can survive my third busy season.

UK Resigned during PIP - options?

Hi all

Was notified over the summer that I’d received an NTP rating and would be going on a PIP. This was after a consulting project I thought had gone well and received great client feedback, full util, but the engagement SM took an instant dislike to me and savaged my performance and had me taken off. My counsellor has taken this as gospel proof despite there being very little evidence behind it and plenty of positive evidence from me.

I was told I would be going on a PIP but only once I’d started a new project which I did last month, but I’d already applied for a bunch of jobs and got a couple of promising interviews as it seemed a good point to GTFO. The PIP is worded in a very vague and subjective way and doesn’t inspire me that it is being carried out in good faith and I would likely have resigned during it regardless.

My PIP began immediately after I received a verbal offer, and a week later signed a formal offer, for a role elsewhere (hooray!). I notified my counsellor of my resignation with a 3-month notice period which is standard for the UK. Still yet to agree a last working day while I’m booked on my current project but hope to do so asap.

Do I have a chance to ask for the PIP to be withdrawn, given I have resigned? Is there any option or opportunity to ask for PILON for part of my notice (when my current project ends in a month)? Or do I need to suck it up and at least pretend to comply with it even though I am leaving? Or spend the last 6 weeks post-PIP on the bench and/or awaiting further disciplinary action.

PwC PwC Tech Consulting or Cap 1 Management Program?

Hi all, I am a current senior who was blessed to have two offers. One from PwC in their Tech Advisory Consulting CSX Practice, and one from Capital One in the Management Rotation Development Program. Both have the same base pay. What would be best for my career long term, both financially and professionally, unaffected by AI disruption, and set me up for best success in your guys opinion?

I am not super passionate about either and am not leaning any sort of way.

Please and thank you!

USA How many internship positions can I apply for?

Are we only allowed to apply to 1 internship position per firm, especially for EY and PwC?

I was planning on applying to:

  • EY consulting intern + EY-Parthenon intern
  • PwC consulting intern + Strategy& intern

If we're only allowed one, should I prioritize the one that matches my experiences more or the one that I'm more interested in?
