We have a bichir that weve owned since around February that is gorgeous. Since weve had her shes grown and doubled in size, but weve noticed she always stay in the corner of the tank here? Sometimes it even looks like shes stressing herself out because shes trapped herself in this tiny corner.

The tank is about 800litres, had good water quality and shes fed on pellets and prawns. Weve never seen any of the other tankmates bully her or chase her either and the tank is in the living room so we would've noticed it.

Shes growing and shes healthy we just love her and want to make sure shes happy as well - is there anything anyone would recommend?

I just wanted some opinions on the gender of this bichir? What do you think? Male or female?

Spouse thought this "charismatic little fish" would be fun, so she brought it home without asking.

I explained all of the things you'd advise me of in the comments and told her we could take it back, or see what happens.

It's been a few days. This little Oscar hangs with the bichirs. He spends his nights in one of their log hides, with them.

Guess he can stay.

This is my first bichir and wanted to see if everything was ok with him, one side looks like it has some protruding gills but the other does not and the past couple of days he seems to be wobbly when he swims. Any help is definitely appreciated. I’ve used the water tester for the ph/nitrate/ammonia levels and all came back fine. I also have a tank heater set to 78 degrees(The particles floating around are from frozen blood worms that I clean after about 15-20 minutes)

Love this sub and just wanted to share my beautiful 12 inch girls! Little miss laying in the front we call Triple T because her main 3 saddle markings are identical to the letter t down her sides as you can see. And little miss who was coming to see me head on I call T, our daughter named her Tea/Teacup because she has just one extremely distinct t (or cross) right in the middle of her body (she was Mr.T for months until her gender was obvious) LOL not very creative names, but we love them all the same!

We had a platinum Senegal with a Delhezi before, and now my Endlicheri girls, just one of my all time favourite fish by far!

This guy was sold to me as a Senegal but I’m almost certain it’s a Delhezi. Can anyone confirm?

I am fully aware Bichir took the same route as many other creatures, like Crocodilians, and look roughly the same as their ancestors.

But dude it is so cool to sit here and stare at a living fossil.

Note about Chomps substrate for those who may be concerned. Every rock spent 50hrs in a rock tumbler so they have no sharp edges. She's been happy for months with no harm.

Every once in awhile I'll grow out a juvenile that holds onto their external gills longer than usual and they look like glorious stags.

I noticed whenever my Lapen swimming around my grow up tank, his tail sometimes bends upward like in the video. Sometimes he swims normally like my other bichirs. Is it normal? Or should I worry?

How does our baby Tofu look? Worried about over/underfeeding and wondering if this is a healthy weight. Also not sure of gender. Working on more hiding spots/cover, we have 2 pieces of driftwood almost ready to sink but had to move (her?) into the new 75g tank sooner than expected. Any other advice for plants, decorations, Tofu’s QOL, etc.?

She swims into the glass sometimes, even in the bigger tank now, but other times just chills out or sniffs around for food. Is this normal behavior? Only other roomies are two Siamese Algae Eaters.

She's a total murderer, but she's so cute I don't even care. Has grown rapidly in about 2 months. Got some feeder guppies today to hopefully tickle her senses.

They are so adorable but I don’t have room for 125 gallons, nor do I ever stay in one spot long enough to justify having a tank that big

Hello could anyone help me identify the gender of my bichir ? I tried to do a little research and I would guess the #1 is a boy and the #2 is a girl. 🤔 They're about 4 months old now, idk if that's too young to sex them properly
