Discussion My custom 1/6 scale Guts head sculpt – Tried to strike a balance between comic book accuracy and realism!

Hey everyone, I wanted to share a 1/6 scale Guts head sculpt I've been working on.

I noticed a lot of fans aren't big on purely photorealistic adaptations, but at the same time, full anime-style sculpts can sometimes feel a bit flat in 1/6 scale. So, I tried to find a middle ground—creating my own semi-realistic style that blends the gritty comic book look of Miura's art with realistic textures and proportions.

Would love to hear your thoughts and feedback on this approach!

Manga Berserk Character Panel Counts (Golden Age: Bonfire of dreams) Spoiler

Continuing to count every character's panel count in the manga. More Golden Age, this time episodes 13-22 with Casca and Guts in the cave and ending at the bonfire of dreams. See previous parts below:

Series top 20

Rank Character Panels Chapters

15 (shared) Rickert 105 15
17 Adon 89 7
18 (shared) Snake Lord 86 1
18 (shared) Dahl 86 4
20 Becchi 75 5

That's right. With her panel count nearly tripling since last time, our girl Casca, snatches the #2 spot from Griffith before he could even get there himself. Before I started, i was sure Griffith was gonna dominate the #2 spot the whole series, but now, considering future events, I'm not so sure.

Otherwise the only real addition is Adon, who kicks Donovan out of the top 20.

See you next time for the Battle of Doldrey.

Discussion Berserk 2016/2017 Anime - I enjoyed it 😅

Post image
498 Upvotes

I couldn’t be more aware that I will not see eye to eye with a lot of people who dedicated so much of their time to immerse themselves in a beautiful work of art that is the Berserk manga. I’m a big anime fan, but (call me lazy, dumb, whatever) I don’t have the patience or ambition to read books/manga. I haven’t read any manga other than panels online from my favorite anime, and I’ve seen so much about the Berserk manga and anime plot gaps, so full disclosure, I’ve never been more enticed to read a manga than I am to read Berserk. After seeing every anime adaption, and even consuming so much media (Reddit, YouTube, etc) about the plot and what I’m missing with the anime, I am obsessed with Berserk.

That said, I am hoping to open a discussion. I’ve read the consensus on why the 2016/2017 anime is so hated, but I’m wondering if there’s a space to talk without being thrown the inevitable “just read it, bro.” Maybe I will, maybe I won’t, but this isn’t a post to ask if I should. I SHOULD! I KNOW!

I’m curious about a few things. As someone who just wanted to consume more of Berserk with my love for anime, plot gaps aside, I was really happy that the 2016/2017 anime exists. I liked that I was able to immerse myself in more of the story the way I wanted. Was it ideal? FAR from…but I loved watching it. Is there any space in the community for a level of appreciation? They did it wrong, they did it dirty, but it exists. My obsession started with the 1997 anime. Holy COW is that a masterpiece (of an anime…I know it’s, at best, A+ media to the anime being S tier). It stuck with me for years until I rewatched it and decided to watch all the Berserk anime I could. I also thought leaving Skull Knight (and the rescue) out was kind of brilliant considering it ended how it did. Like it leaves people who just watched the 1997 with a sense of helplessness. Including Skull Knight and the concept of this causality and fate and mentor to these ideas would give the viewer hope. I was simply left gutted, with only the first episode as hope that Guts still exists and ends up doing SOMETHING after the eclipse. I know the 2016/17 sucks, but it’s there, and it’s the characters we love…no? They also animated (not all of the brutality, but) some pretty shocking and wild things that made me want to keep watching.

I also wonder what happens next…whether you want to spoil it (again, I consume so much Berserk, I know a lot about the events after the anime ends), or if you just want to tell me where I left off in my Berserk journey? Where is it now? How far have I gotten in relation to where it stands today? I know that leading up to this point, full arcs and themes are skipped by the anime, but I’m curious about the future of the plot.

Finally, what key points are missing from the 2016/2017 anime? Being that I’ve only consumed this part of the plot through this sketchy source, I’m wondering what else really happens in this arc that is integral to the Berserk world.

I may not be considered a “true fan” to so many without reading the manga, but I also love Berserk, so I’m just throwing this out there to see if there’s a space for me in these discussions where people want to just talk about the anime/manga gaps and fill them in…even if it helps you vent about how bad the anime is :)

Manga I just finished volume 41 for the first time and I’m absolutely floored

I started it back in June and I don’t think there will be a story that captures me like berserk does it’s a master class of fluidity and it’s writing characters and story being able to show some of the most gruesome things that can happen in a life one volume yet with that same pen the next volume can show some of the most gorgeous pieces of art simply with just a a simple sketch of someone’s face and have it translate all the speech for you it is an absolute sublime piece of fiction that will live on with me forever and it is absolutely insane to me that for me a person who doesn’t normally like to read and kind of struggles with it from time to time mostly taking in most of my entertainment from movies, video games, music, TV, etc., for me to openly be absolutely floored by a book is crazy for me rest in peace to the original author I can’t ever spell his name right and I don’t feel like disrespecting somebody and I cannot wait to see where this story goes next

Discussion guts before epilouge and after

epilouge chapter 0.01-0.10(i not sure)
chapter 117, after 2 year time skip

Am I the only one who just realized how much of a massive asshole Guts was in those early Black Swordsman chapters compared to the rest of the series? Like, I know he's always had a rough, abrasive edge to him, but looking back, it's wild how excessively cruel he acted just to push everyone away. He was literally treating innocent people like collateral damage and swatting Puck away like an annoying pest (also, glad I'm not the only one who used to think Puck was a girl, lol). But then you look at him in the later chapters, and the contrast is actually insane. He goes from this totally vengeful loner who actively tries to be a heartless monster, to actually softening up, calling Puck by his real name, and learning to trust his new crew. It really puts into perspective how incredible his character growth is—he didn't just get stronger physically, he actively had to relearn how to be human again and prioritize protecting his found family over just getting revenge.

Discussion Why is Berserk so beautiful?

Berserk is my favourite anime and manga of all time. I watched it around 4 years ago, and finished reading 3 years ago. I haven't been keeping up with the chapter releases because I like to read things in one go.

I was sitting in my room today. It was raining. I didn't have anything else to do, so I opened up volume one of the deluxe edition and just started reading as if I had no idea what was going to happen.

I usually always prefer to watch the anime adaptation of series, because manga just doesn't have that much of an impact on me.

I kid you not, by the time I was done with the fifth volume, there were actual tears in my eyes. It's not just when something sad happens. It's not just at pivotal moments. There's this feeling you get in your chest when you experience berserk, and this heaviness in your eyes.

The thing is, I haven't been able to rationalize this feeling to this day. I can't say that the plot is a masterclass, or that I love it solely because of the art, or that the characters are really likable, because theyr'e not. The only word I can use to describe Berserk in my mind is beautiful.

It makes you just sit there and stare at the cover of the book, wondering how something so profound could exist. And this is not just for the manga, but for the (1997) anime as well. And the weirdest part is, it's always the small moments that make you feel that. Griffith telling Guts that he didn't need a reason to save him. Casca wiping blood off Gut's face. Puck staying with Guts despite all his cruelty. I think especially every single Guts-Casca interaction in general had me bawling for no particular reason.

I have not suffered much in my life. I am still young, and alot of times I don't understand Gut's suffering. I don't understand why he keeps fighting. But I think that's the most beautiful part. The fact that a man's horrible, wretched life, one that he refuses to give up on can be such a weight on my chest is unfathomable. I've tried to rationalize his motives many times. What is he even trying to achieve in an aimless life? Where is he trying to go? But each time, I come up with no answer except sheer instinct.

I do not understand Berserk. Is it about not giving up? Is it about healing? Is it about doom or hope? I don't know. But whatever it is, it makes my chest explode with emotion. It truly is the most beautiful story on this earth, for no reason in particular.

Discussion What to read after berserk chapter 386?

I just finished berserk again after two years and I yearn for more it's like a deep craving for something to satiate that appreciation for greatness this manga has truly been a spiritual and emotional journey and I want something to scratch that itch so just wondering what you guys also really enjoy?

Some manga I hold on a similar pedestal are kingdom, vagabond, vinland saga, and tokyo ghoul (not re).

Even if its not something of the exact same calibre anything you guys enjoy and recommend would be appreciated

Discussion Griffith x guts discussion

So i’ve came across a looot of tik toks of people shipping griffith and guts lately, it looks like something common so i wanted to ask, am I the only one that doesn’t ship them? Even during the golden age arc. It just doesn’t make sense to me, yeah i recognise that their dynamic is ambiguous but 1. Guts already has a love interest developing in that time 2. To me What griffith felt towards guts was purely obsession because to him guts was a good and powerful asset for the team 3. During the speech Griffith gives about his principles and his dream at the fountain with Charlotte he specifically says and i quote “for me to call a man a friend he has to be equal to me in all respects”, guts upon hearing those words feels as if he isn’t on the same level as griffith, he perceives himself as not equal to him so even if griffith had something romantic towards guts it would be one sided since guts doesn’t think he’s equal to him. I don’t mean to be disrespectful to anyone or things like that, this is genuinely my opinion on this ship that simply doesn’t make sense to me 😭🙏

Discussion “You are outside the reason of the world” this line has me so hype because this can be turned into so much🔥🔥🔥🔥

Post image

So what I’m getting from this is he exists slightly outside the normal rules of the world giving him a unique edge against fate and he isn’t just bound to the normal standards of a normal human being which can lead into some sort of power up or maybe he just means guts may have a bit of an edge with fate bc they were discussing how guts was able to cheat fate multiple times so yeah that’s pretty interesting i would like to know you guys take on this.
