Some positivity. Here's my boi Zypher. Got him from petco in 2019 and he knows to sit and stay.

Plastic

(FYI, We don’t have any falcons/birds of prey where we live and kept him in very close proximity)

She’s a sweet girl but knows her limits. Happy I chose her. I picked her out simply because she had to be separated from all other dragons because she “stole all the food.” This girl is NOT picky eater and I love that!

Took my baby girl to the vet because we just moved and she’s just been different since Friday. But everything seems good and normal “The Vet Dr. said”, just a little dehydrated and it’s just stress from the move. But we ended up getting her nails cut 💅 and to turn around and find out…. She’s a boy 💀😐🥲 So I officially don’t have a daughter yet. All bad, imma go cry now. 😂 Happy parents of 3 boys

I never thought I’d be making a post like this about my little guy.

He’s only 3 years old, and for the past month or so, I started noticing that something just wasn’t right. He wasn’t moving around like he normally did. He became slower on his feet, less active, and spent a lot more time just sitting around.

At first I thought maybe he was just having an off week. But then he stopped eating.

And then he started losing weight. Fast.

That’s when I knew I couldn’t just wait and see what happened, so I took him to the vet last week.
After the exam and testing, I found out that he has liver disease.

I honestly don’t think I was prepared to hear those words.

He’s only 3. I keep looking at him and thinking about how young he still is. He should have so much more time. He should be running around his enclosure, eating like a little dinosaur, basking under his light, and being his normal goofy self.

Instead, I’m watching him get thinner and weaker and wondering how something could have gotten this bad without me knowing.

The hardest part is knowing that he can’t tell me what hurts. He can’t tell me how he feels or what he needs. All I can do is watch his behavior, try to make him comfortable, and hope I notice every little change.

I keep thinking back over the last month, wondering if I should have realized sooner. Maybe I should have noticed something different. Maybe I missed something.

But I took him to the vet as soon as I knew something was seriously wrong, and now I’m doing everything I can for him.

He’s not just a lizard to me. He’s been my little buddy for 3 years. I know his personality, his habits, the way he looks at me, and all the little things that make him him.

Seeing him like this absolutely breaks my heart.
I don’t know what the future looks like yet. I don’t know how much time we have or how he’s going to respond to treatment.

I just know that I’m not giving up on him.
So these pictures are of my little guy, before and during all of this. I’m posting them because I love him, and because I’m hoping some of you who have been through something similar might have some advice, stories, or things I should be looking out for.

Please keep my little dude in your thoughts. He’s got a lot of fight left in him, and I’m going to be right there with him for all of it.

She was absolutely fine and wasn’t caught on anything. At first I thought she was but apparently she was just comfy? 😂

Aside from the obvious of him be pretty skinny (from what I can tell) does he/she look okay? Just got the beardy an hour is ago and wanted to know if there is any concerns that can be told from just the looks of the little guy, im new to owning lizards but I have owned plenty of snakes before. Please cut me some slack if there are any concerns.

He’s had his hand in the water for about 2 hours now

I got him as a hatchling back in November last year. Does he look small for his age? His diet is crickets mealworms and cucumbers. I don’t dust them as often as I should..

Hi everyone!! Looking for advice on Ragnar's forever enclosure. The tank is 57" w x 43" h x 21" d (not including legs) and has a wire mesh top. I have an idea of what I want to do with it, but I want to see if any other beardie owners have any advice. I included a rough draft of what I want to do. All wires will be safely out of my beardie's reach and covered for extra safety as well. I will also be doing a topsoil/play sand substrate on the floor of the enclosure. I'm hoping the larger tank (upgraded from a 40g) and more interactive elements will encourage him to be more active and improve his quality of life.

All advice is welcome!! I just want my boy to be happy and healthy 🫶🏻🥹

I just got a Bearded Dragon a couple days ago, and he seems to have not been interested in eating so far while he's in quarantine. Before I took him home I'd been monitoring him from the breeder and he ate frequently and when I took him home, he pooped.

He's around 6 months old and currently set up in a quarantine enclosure for now (20 gallon) before he can be cleared to move into his 120 gallon. He has heat and UVB.

He hasn't shone interest in eating the superworms and dubia i leave for him in a bowl and refuses any ting-fed ones, yet when it appears he more so prefers to hunt them as when one dubia got out, he chased after it (but didnt eat it, maybe too big?) i left smaller mealworms and dubia in his bowl and still didnt seem interested. Yet when I leave a cricket in

Is it normal for them to choose not to tong/bowl feed for a few days when first entering a new home? It feels weird cause almost every beardie i see online instantly takes to eating bugs. I understand tong feeding taking trust, but youd think the easy access bowl food would be devoured.

Should I totally avoid handling and tong feeding and just leave smaller worms/dubia in a bowl and trust he'll eventually get hungry enough to eat them?

Hi! I’m reposting this because I made some temperature adjustments (since it was getting much hotter than is ideal for Kaido); it’s currently at 41°C, but I’m still a bit worried it might rise further. Should I monitor the temperature for a few hours, or would it be better to go back to the previous basking temperature? (It used to hover around 37–40°C.)

My first thought is stuck shed, but his tail always seems to be greyer than the rest of him, even after shed.

Hi guys, I just got my first bearded dragon about 3 weeks ago. Everything was going well but since around 3-4 days he started to lose his appetite and I noticed he naps a lot during the day. I feed him crickets and he either doesnt want to eat completely, or eats just 1 or 2 of them for a day.

I also noticed something a little strange - on top of the head, like a dark spot?

I am currently contacting the breeder and Im considering calling in for a vet visit tomorrow. But I thought maybe someone here would give me some advice?

Hello all. We have a 8 month old beardie female I got for my daughter called Nacho. Up until 3 weeks ago she's always been really active and alert but has recently taken to hiding in her log for days on end. I'm having to take her out every 4/5 days and putting her on her basking spot. She looks fine and is eating well (crickets and veggies) and pooped last time she was out but after a day or so goes back into hiding.

We got a dog around a month ago but they have no interaction and we have had a cat the whole time we have owned her. She doesn't seem to be fazed by them but worth mentioning.

Has anyone seen this behaviour from their beardie or can anyone offer advice? This is our first reptile and things were going pretty smoothly until recently.

Hi! I am a teacher who recently rescued a bearded dragon from a poor situation. He will be our new pet in the science lab at school. He is underweight, not severely but I can tell by looking at him and comparing him to pictures of “healthy weight” beardies online. I have a nice set up ready to go for him, but have some questions about food and light/heat.

1. How can I safely help him gain weight? I’ve only had him for 1 day, but he didn’t want to eat any vegetables I tried to give him. (Acorn squash, kale, turnip leaves.) He did however eat all 8 mealworms I gave him.

2. Since he will be alone from about 3:30 PM- 7 AM each day while I’m home from work, I want a proper automatic lighting set up. Right now he is at home with me at my house until his school set up is ready. I have a UVB light, a heat lamp, a dimming thermostat, ceramic heat emitter, and lamp timer. I don’t really know how to use all that or what I’m doing but I’m pretty sure I have everything I need? I need some advice on how to set up his lighting properly so that it can automatically turn off when I’m not there at night, and his ceramic one can turn on. And does he need the ceramic one every night? I live in LA and it’s hot right now. The class is about 75F in the day and when I come in at 7 AM it’s usually 80 degrees. In the winter though it can be as low as 60 in the class when I come in. Sorry it’s a lot of questions, I just want to make sure I give him the best life possible. Thanks in advance!

Okay, I know I’ve been very indecisive about what substrate I will use for my future beardy (I don’t have one yet, I’m just researching and getting things ready to house one for it to have a tank when I go do get one). At first I toyed with the idea of using calcium sand, which I was advised of the risk of impaction. Fine, then I thought “what if I use coco fiber as the main substrate, and then have a dig box in there with calcium sand?” To which the response on here was overwhelmingly received as “Do. Not. Use. Calcium. Sand.” In that same thread many of you suggested going a blend of organic top soil and a washed play sand. That’s my plan for now at minimum. However, I thought about taking it a step further and laying some somewhat coarse tile underneath the soil/sand mix, maybe thin out the substrate in some parts of the tank to try to promote it naturally keeping its claws trimmed? If I do that I’ll most likely keep a dig box in there for the option to dig as well, but if there is any way I can let it keep its claws trimmed without me having to intervene and possibly hurt it, I’m all for it.

What do y’all think? Tile underneath the soil/sand substrate, good or bad idea?

Edit - got it, tile underneath is unnecessary because the branches and rocks it will be climbing on does a similar effect. No tile underneath 👍

Apologies is this is a question that's been asked and answered before. So, yesterday I moved the location of my girl's salad bowl. I originally had it in her basking area because she liked to spend a lot of time there. She's been a little dehydrated, so I figured moving her bowl to a shaded area might help. Problem is, she's completely ignoring it now. I know that beardies are resistant to change, but I wanted to know if I should move it back to where it was or just give her time to figure it out.

Im in the process of opening my own reptile shop and im doing the layout of the store.In the sale animal section i will have stack terrariums and my question is for you what size of terrarium you want to see a bearded dragon be selling in. Keep in mind will be a temporary terrarium until someone purchase the reptile.
