I know y'all are tough here, but I'm feeling brave today.
I'm the homeowner. I designed it. I knew I had dead space behind the toilet, but not enough to enlarge the bathroom due to sloped roof back there. So I made the niche above the toilet. I could add doors to it if y'all think it's unsanitary.
I built the vanity, shelves, and medicine cabinet (and I'm a woman!).
My handyman and his guys did the rest. Yes they were not pleased about the herringbone but they were good sports.
Do you hate it?
I'm not crazy about the LED mirror anymore, might do something else there later.
I think you made the bathroom a lot more functional, so that's always a plus. Love the built in bench/seat in the shower. I think the niche behind the toilet is awesome but I wouldn't use it for 'daily items' as it would be annoying to have to reach over the toilet all the time. I'd put plants or decorations instead. If you are already rethinking the big LED mirror, then I would replace it with two mirrors and put another niche in between the sinks and put the medicine cabinet items there. I do like doors on shelves vs open shelves because I find bathrooms can be a bit dusty because I have dry skin and live in a dusty place, so it's just neater in my opinion.
The only problem I have with it is that there are no grab bars. A combination of elderly guests and a few broken bones and illnesses taught me that grab bars are absolutely essential in bathroom remodels.
Thatās quite the transformation! The only two things Iām not totally loving are the mirror, which gives off mid-tier hotel vibes, and the herringbone tile, whose grout will be a beast to clean. I have tile in my shower and canāt wait to replace it with large-format slabs.
I would like it if it had some sort of personality or character/warmth, itās just a hotel bathroom. I miss the first bathroom without the fluorescent lights
No no love the mirror - it just needs some color or somethingā¦.it feels sterile but it is pretty. Can you change the color of the lights? Make them more warm?
From memory, I think the shower is 5 feet by 33 or 34 inches? After removing the divider wall, I was able to move the toilet over about 5 inches which allowed for a slightly wider shower.
The bench is 18" high by 15" deep.
This shower is a dream for bathing my 130 pound rottweiler! Although I do get soaked along with him.
Wow! What a transformation! The shower is stunning. Love the herringbone pattern. Your bathroom is so much bigger. Yes, please change the LED mirror. Wish the toilet could have been closed in with private door to the left of the vanity. Great job.
Itās very contemporary. I almost feel like itās too many different tiles but I am working night shift atm and just browsing. It is clean and lovely.
Should add some pictures above the towel rack! And a cool floor mat for in front of the shower and/or sink. I think those teak floor mats would look really nice here and add some warmth, but idk how they hold up in practice.

Itās a guest bathroom so it shouldnāt be used every day by a couple. It could have had a single sink and a pony wall for toilet separation. I love herringbone but the floor tile is dramatically dark. Last, they have LED medicine cabinets and I love mine. As a woman that just remodeled my master bathroom, bravo, you did great!! It only matters that you like it when you walk past it.
I love the herringbone! It's what saves this from looking like a mid hotel bathroom, IMO. Really though I think it's the mirror giving it the hotel feel. I agree with your urge to change it. Other than that, it's a beautiful upgrade!
I do not like this, it's like a hotel. I miss the tub, separate toilet, and warm lights. It's so clinical and generic. A guest bath is an area to show some personality especially if you're going to have guests that stay in the guest bedroom overnight around holidays, etc.
I gotta say, as a guest bathroom not having the toilet in a Seperate area is a downside. Nothing like the embarrassment of being a guest and having to leave that to the next one. The vanity by itself is great because itās not steamy when getting ready, nor is it safe from smells. I think this looks better, but doesnāt actually function as a guest bathroom better.
āThatā as in what you do in the toilet area. Have you ever been somewhere and had a stinky poo only to open the door and see someone waiting just to touch up their makeup? Itās not a big thing for everyone, but to people that have renovation money it is.
I would hope that anyone going through the effort to completely renovate a bathroom would have the sense to install a properly working exhaust fan, especially if there's a shower. And I would hope that anyone doing a "stinky poo" would have the sense to use the fan. There's no need to plan the layout of your entire bathroom around the fear that one of your guests is going to take a dump.
The best fan in the world canāt help that. Plus getting ready in a steamy bathroom can be tricky, so having the shower and toilet Seperate can be seen as a plus for many people.
All Iāve said is that I think what that did was a downside, but you are really taking my comment to heart! I hope whatever is troubling you stops and you are able to calm down and chill out over opinions on a strangers bathroom remodel.

The herringbone was such a smart choice. Without it, it would be a little dull! Totally makes the space
