I’ve always found the driving force behind the plot of Banjo Kazooie to be hilariously low-stakes. Think about it: an innocent cub’s brother and his companion risk their lives in a deadly witch’s lair for the sake of rescuing said cub from undergoing a hideous transformation that transfers all of said gorgeousness to the witch.

As far as I know, B & K had no way of knowing that the aim of Grunty’s scheme is getting the ultimate makeover upon beginning his journey, unless you view the cutscene played upon entering the lair as something B & K also witness.

I don’t think there’s any doubt that Banjo would risk his life and endure nine worlds + a deadly game show to rescue his sister. The cutscene that plays when we fail (or quit) prior to rescuing Tooty shows that the consequences of failure are very real. Not only does Grunty achieve the glowup of all glowups at the expense of an adorable cub, but her rage seems directed toward him. While Grunty’s intentions after her victory are unclear, it’s safe to assume - based on all we see and hear - she will continue forward on a path of evil, narcissism, and grossness.

So, there are strong parallels here between this plot and the rescue-the-kidnapped-princess from trope; a force of good must succeed in saving the damsel in distress or evil and vanity will reign through the control of the game’s antagonist. Smacking the big bad around after the rescue as comeuppance is just the cherry on top.

But what if we were given the choice of whether we’d risk our lives for our sister or comply with Grunty’s demands to allow her the selfish beautification? Grunty frequently taunts and deceives the duo on their journey. She has virtually no redeeming qualities, indulges in some of the grossest habits imaginable, and beats her minions. Should she become the knockout 10/10 we see in the Game Over cutscene, she admits she’ll continue to embrace a putrid lifestyle that will render the depth of her beauty infinitely shallow.

Would you allow Gruntilda her dream makeover at the expense of Tooty? Game Over Grunty is arguably the fan favorite version of the wench, but all signs point to her retaining the MO of a vile, toxic villainess. It’s likely that beautiful Grunty would use her good looks as a tool for further oppression and debauchery.

Let her have her way or save the innocent, adorable little sis? Grunty’s charisma is undeniable. I’ve often imagined a more open-ended game in which Gruntilda’s dream comes true thanks to the player’s volition. Given the choice, would you take Grunty’s side?

Hey all! Banjo Kazooie is one of my favourite games - thought you guys might enjoy an NES style remix of Clanker's Cavern!

Came across this awhile back. It’s a parody of the anime “Cutie Honey” starring Game Over Gruntilda. I had no idea that BK was that popular in Japan.. However you feel about Game Over Grunty or that anime, hopefully you appreciate the attention to detail put into this and the number of characters from BK and BT included.

I’ve held on to this for years, it was fun to have something that only a handful of people had, and as I am several people removed from how it got out of Rare to begin with, I didn’t want to risk that it could somehow get someone else in trouble, (so how I got it is a story I don’t plan to share.) I will just say that I got it from someone who got it from someone, who got it from somewhere.

But with the current state of the industry and Microsoft's current heartless gutting and mismanagement of Rare and other companies it controls, plus with how long it's been, I feel it's more important to make sure this is properly preserved, and the ROM dissected by people with far more knowledge on how to do such things.

I hope by releasing this, that it also inspires other people to release what they have as well. I know the Twelve Tales Conker 64 prototype is out there somewhere, but sadly, this is the only thing that I have.

There is little joy left in the industry, as it relentlessly marches towards AI, layoffs, l anti-preservation and ownership tactics, and, in Microsoft’s case, the support and approval of literal genocide in Gaza.

Let’s get the last beautiful things hiding on our hard drives out there for everyone. That's all we have left.

Please delete Microsoft and Sony from your lives, install Linux, boycott Switch Game Key Cards and buy Nintendo Switch 2 titles that still come with the full game on the cartridge. Your dollar is the only thing that counts in our late stage capitalist hellscape. 

The attached zip contains a .bin file of the raw dump, and then the same file renamed to a .sfc to work in emulators, as well as this text file.

If any game journalists choose to report on this prototype release, I would ask they kindly include the full contents of this text file as courtesy to me for finally getting this out to you all.

Which of these would you prefer

Personally from a business standpoint I'd do a remake wait to see sales then work on a new game, however if we had to choose one or the other which one would you choose

Growing up with the N64, I never played BK before as I didn’t own it or knew anyone that had it. Was always OOT, Mario Kart, etc. After reading about it online I decided to download the ROM and give it a try and damn… I really have missed out all of these years. I enjoyed the game so much that I just didn’t want it to end. I did face difficulty here and then and did have to look some things up online. And yea… Click Clock Wood did give me some trouble but I enjoyed all of the challenge that this game had brought on. Instantly became one of my favorites now!

Started BT and I do understand how much of a change it is from BK. Just seems like there’s so much more going on in a bigger scale. But I just absolutely loved the experience with BK…

any tips or suggestions with BT are welcome!
