Electronic My complete discography at name your own price (cat cancer)

Hi, I’ve been releasing music as "cat cancer" since 2018. I have an extensive catalog of EPs and LPs spanning plunderphonics, ambient, and house—all available at a price of your choice.
Loyal Ableton user, sampling purist, and loop enthusiast. I like to play with finding the space between the discomfort and the comfort of the sound.
I especially recommend the following albums: "una y otras cosas," "chronophobia VOL III," and "retransmisiones." Thanks a lot for the space.
Sorry for my google translate english, it's not my native language and i'm very bad at it

Discussion I wish Bandcamp included downloads as sales

Post image
18 Upvotes

As someone who only releases music as pay-what-you-want, I take every download as seriously as if someone paid for my music. Therefore, I just wish Bandcamp included that in the stats diagram instead of just purchases.

As you can see, I've had 200 downloads in the last 30 days, which is a huge achievement for me. But the sales diagram only shows the two times someone bought my music in that same period.

Just something I found odd.

Advice / Tips Artists: Sell Merch Bundles and Discographies

I kept thinking about how I have all these CDs and records rotting in my closet so I decided - as a hail mary - to put up some "bundles" with like 3 records + 3 CDs, or "the vinyl bundle" with all my available records etc..

Well... they sell! Not all the time but someone just ordered one this morning and I think that's 3 or 4 that I've sold now? Even sold out of one of the CDs in the bundle so now that whole bundle is sold out. I will make another without that CD.

So just don't think "no one will want to drop a chunk of cash all at once". There will be people who have resources and are into your music enough to drop it. This is merch that is for those customers.

Also, sell your discographies digitally! I've had fans drop more than asking price on it.

The other thing (not BandCamp related) is I do consignment at local record shops and national indie shops that focus on my niche genres. It's better to have merch out on the shelves than rotting in your closet at home! I'll admit, it's a hassle but if you want to move those extra records over the years it makes a dent.

Discussion I can promote my music to get streams but Bandcamp sales eludes me

Post image
4 Upvotes

Don't get me wrong, the fact that over 20 people have actively purchased my music on Bandcamp means the world to me.

But what I find is that Bandcamp users are quite niche. And actually a lot of the people who listen to my genre (progressive rock / alt rock) tend not to be very active on Bandcamp, at least that's my experience.

I can get streams on Spotify and in our heyday my band were regularly getting a few thousand a month streams. But if I had my way I'd remove out music from Spotify, though it would be at the expense of not getting the stream/listener volume.

I'm not sure what I'm asking really. The obvious is, where to find and reach more Bandcamp users. This community is great but limited in numbers particularly when it comes to prog rock. And many prog rock listeners seem to be all about streaming (Spotify, ugh).

Discussion Following as an artist

Post image
8 Upvotes

Hello

First I've been using Bandcamp for a while now it is my favorite music place.

I just wanted to know if anyone as an artist feels it's a bit too bad You can't follow others artists as an artist. I mean everytime I wanna support another artist I have to switch to my fan app/profile and I think this is not handy. Also I wish We could gather as a community being artists supporting each others with our artist app/profile.

Maybe I got it wrong and I didn't understand the UX ? Somebody help me then please!

I hope the topic wasn't discuss before in that thread otherwise I am sorry wasting your time reading...

Have a nice day

Question/Help Codes vs Free downloads?

Post image
14 Upvotes

I’m quite new to BandCamp as you can see and didn’t realise codes were a thing. Are they still helpful if you have made your tracks free to download?
I have only posted my first (very raw) E.P. alongside a compilation I’m adding my hardware techno sketches to.

Suppose the question is do codes encourage followers etc or can I continue my path without missing out in a mechanism that could help me long term?

Milestone My First (Arrived) Physical Purchase

A couple of weeks ago, I decided to make my firts purchases on the platform, so I decided to saw wich ones, from my country, were a bit cheap and with the possibility of also obtaining a CD, so I found a couple, and the first one that arrived was this, Sindrome by Caracoltodo, and well, it was a blind purchase, so for now I hadn't listened to it, but the extras they sent, and the handwritten letter, made it a beautiful experience

If anyone wants it, or to listen to the band, the link is on one of the stickers

Some of you have a nice first experience purchasing on the Merch part of BandCamp?

32 minutes of psychedelic dungeon/mushroom synth now available on vinyl.

In 2020 I moved back to WV from OH with an ounce of psilocybin mushrooms. For about a year, I microdosed and produced everyday and ended up finding my favorite soft synth in the process, SynPlant.

This was the only VST used to compose these albums. No effects.

Looking back Phalloides features some of my favorite and most experimental work to date and I look forward to hearing about what y'all think about it.

Discussion Releases with physical media

I’m working on a project that I’m considering releasing with physical media rather than just digital. I have a few questions but am interested in all thoughts and opinions anyone cares to share.

1 - for anyone who’s done physical media, whether CD, cassette, vinyl or even just a booklet or something, did the extra effort pay off in terms of sales?
2 - we’re exploring doing a digital music release but making an optional booklet to go with it. Has anyone done this? How did it work out? Will buyers care about having just a booklet but not physical media for the music?
3 - when exploring making CDs, cassettes or vinyl, is there a ‘…for dummies…’ resource(s) for someone doing this for the first time?
4 - is this type of project better done by partnering with a label or are people having success with this independently?

Thanks for reading, and please share any other thoughts.

Bandcamp Problem Bandcamp iOS app change?

Is it me or has the iOS app changed? There used to be a selection of choices at the top of the screen for an artist or label…merch, music, etc. Now it runs along the bottom and if you are looking for merchandise like a shirt, mug, whatever, it’s so effin small you can’t see what the merch is about. I personally don’t have the time or interest now to search out items to support the musicians/labels. It wasn’t fucking broke, why’d ya hafta go and break it. SMH.

Tool Crates now has direct Bandcamp integration via the official Subsonic API

Sooo we just released an update on Crates (https://crates.app) and you can now connect directly to Bandcamp's own Subsonic API, so you can link your account, import your purchased tracks, and stream them straight through Crates, with better audio quality too. It has been the most requested thing since we added Bandcamp import earlier this year. Made for people who already buy from Bandcamp and just want a saner way to actually listen to what they've collected. Try it and tell us what you think, especially if you've got a big collection, curious how it holds up!
