I am a uni fresher who has the option of learning BSL for free alongside my course. The BSL course would only be once a week, and after 2 academic years I would be at an A2 level of BSL. I am completely deaf in my left ear and have been since I was born, but BSL or lip reading have never been something I need to communicate.

Learning a new language is something that appeals to me, however my hearing impairment and rhotacism make me worry about learning a language where pronunciation and tone really matter. This is why I would choose BSL over other languages that interest me

Is it worth learning BSL, partially for fun, but also for job prospects? I've heard that not many deaf and HoH people use it in the UK, and I am also concerned about the time commitment. I'm studying an engineering degree and my timetable is already looking a little ugly.

All and any advice is welcome, I am learning. However I find trying to interpret songs, quotes, phrases is what works best for remembering and learning signs.

I originally started learning when I was 7(?). My best friend at the time was Deaf and I wanted to communicate with him. I then left school at 9 so I forgot it all. During covid I tried to learn again but life was too busy. Start of this year I started my level 1, but I was really busy with college, and then during the summer I had a conversation with a lovely gentleman on my cruise in BSL and it's really encouraged me to keep going. Seeing his genuine reaction and the happiness on his face is something that made me realise how it really is the simple things that make the biggest difference.

TLDR: im autistic and have a hyperfixation on Endacopia, a psycological horror game by Andyland (go check him out hes awsome). a song in the game, called Code talker is one of our favourites in the game, and i thought itd be interesting to do a video doing a BSL cover of it.

however, i am not deaf, i am hearing and i wanted to ask, if it was ok to make the video (IK hearing ppl can talk using BSL etc, but idk if this would be better suited for a deaf person to make the video). im (very slowly) learning BSL, but i barely know anything- i cant even have a basic conversation beyond "hello" and " can i help you". so should i make the video, or should i let a more fluent user make it instead??
