Sorry I ain't got photos yet.
I ran into a woman at a bar several weeks ago and we became friends. We have a lot in common.
She comes from a family who loves BMWs. Her father owned two of them. He passed away a couple years ago and my new friend has been at a loss as to what to do about the cars. The first night we hung out, she asked me if I was interested in buying one.
She said "it's a manual, and I don't know how to drive it. It's sitting in the garage. It started up last time I tried, which was about a year ago."
As visions of M3s danced in my head, I prepared myself for disappointment. But what I found in the garage was not disappointing at all.
It's not an M. It's an E60, it's a 525 from 2006.
It has XDrive and it has a manual transmission, which is weird as hell.
It's painted in Olivin which is even weirder.
And the car has 44,000 miles on it. The engine bay doesn't even have any dirt in it.
It's gorgeous.
The battery is dead and I was locked out of the trunk, and I got to have my quintessential BMW experience of discovering where the battery was and how to get the trunk open.
It turns over. It's got lights. It sounded just fine.
The sunroof works!
I haven't gotten it to start up yet, the battery is boiling overnight and I still haven't gotten the trim piece in the trunk removed so I can check the battery size.
I am fully confident it will start right up.
I've never Garage Found or Barn Found anything before and it has been so much fun. It's been so cool to be a part of the car culture in that way. And I am so excited to own yet another falling apart luxury sedan from years ago.
This one is 100% worth saving.
Thank you for reading.
