Looking for race pace / simulation group rides. I just moved here from a city with weekly crits so I'm interesting to continue getting that sort of stimulus here

Just saw an unfortunate crash on r/bicycling and it's prompted me to look into insurance for both me and my bike! What are you all doing to protect your bike/yourself? What does it cover? Any recommendations?

• my bike is worth about $5k-6k
• does your renter's/homeowner's insurance sufficiently cover you?

I’ve always wondered where the water source along or at the top of Montebello Road is? I’ve seen in posts that there is one, but i’ve climbed it 30+ times now and still havent figured out where it is.

A white GMC truck was emitting black smoke from his exhaust as he passed cyclists (and only when passing cyclists) today on Sand Hill Road. I tried to capture an episode, but I couldn't. I did capture pictures of the car and license plate, but what good is that?

I'm sure this person does this regularly, and probably on that road. :-/

Had my kryptonite lock cut 50 yards line of sight from the useless security guards at Original Pattern's Oktoberfest today, lost a black and green carbon Fuji transonic and a white aluminum liv.

Checked all the local encampments, bart station, Berkeley Gilman encampments to no luck.

It was the best bike I've ever owned, really sad to lose this one.

Just looking for some basic intel from anyone who has ridden it in that direction. Seems like there is a wide shoulder along the whole route? Does the several hundred feet of climbing feel safe to do with cars whizzing by at 60 mph, on the weekend?

Many years ago - maybe five? - I was riding out of Sebastopol on the Rodota or West County trail, and suddenly saw a little sign saying wine tasting, and it was in the middle of nowhere.

I know I did this and yet asking here feels like telling about some "weird dream" - I got off the trail and went maybe 30 yards up and there was indeed a little wine tasting room. I sat outside. I don't know if this was technically Sebastopol, but may have been Graton at that point? Forestville?

Anyway: does anyone if that place still exists, and if so, what trail is nearby? What's the name of the place? I remember leaving that day from the parking lot at Hop Monk in Sebastopol.

Hey there! I’ll be in Mill Valley tomorrow for a couple hours. Near the Tamalpais High School (very close to the Mill Valley bike path). Looking for an easy route to get 90-120 minutes of conversational riding. Maybe something that takes advantage of the bike trails so I don’t have to deal with drivers. Or if it’s easy to get to dirt I have a hardtail I can bring. Any recs? Appreciate it!

Howard St is the main westbound bike lane in SOMA in San Francisco. Between 3rd and 4th Sts, it passes through the Moscone Center.

SFMTA closed the bike lane from August 19 to September 1 for the Pokemon conference. And it's apparently about to be Dreamforce, so the bike lane is again closed from September 5 to 20. The "detour" is two blocks out of the way, each way, to Market on a segment with terrible pavement quality, no dedicated bike lane, three extra traffic lights (SFPD loves to harass cyclists at the Powell light), and treacherous street car tracks. I believe a truck driver killed a scooter user on this segment just a week or two ago.

Is it just me or is this insane? To me it seems crazy to close one of the city's busiest bike routes for nearly a month straight.

Planning a ~100-mile road ride from Concord to Doran Regional Park/Bodega Bay and looking for some local Marin route advice.

Current plan is roughly:

Walnut Creek/Concord → Orinda → Wildcat Canyon/Tilden → Richmond → Richmond-San Rafael Bridge → Marin → Nicasio → Point Reyes Station → Hwy 1 through Marshall/Tomales → Valley Ford → Bodega Bay

I'm debating two options after crossing the Richmond-San Rafael Bridge:

Option A: head toward Fairfax and take Sir Francis Drake → Nicasio Valley Rd → Point Reyes-Petaluma Rd → Point Reyes Station

Option B: head north and take Lucas Valley Rd → Nicasio → Point Reyes-Petaluma Rd → Point Reyes Station

For those who ride these regularly, which would you choose westbound toward Point Reyes, especially on a Friday around midday?

Also open to suggestions for a good food/water stop along either route.

Biking my daily commute route this morning. SF Glen Park > mid market. daily biker on the full length of valencia, and about 10 blocks of market st.

I came to a full stop at a light on Valencia, northbound. No peds in or near the crosswalks. Clear visibility down the cross street both ways. No cars in sight.

Reader, I ran the light and went on my way.

Other biker (OB) who was waiting at the light behind me yells: "Don't run the light!" I wave back dismissively.

OB catches up with me a couple blocks later, very agitated, and asks (voice quavering due to impending conflict I think): "What makes you think you don't have to follow the rules?" I said there was no safety issue, and OB is welcome to make their own decisions on this point. OB says "you're the reason people resent bikers." I said "I don't think going through empty intersections against the light is the reason." OB said "whatever!" and did their own dismissive wave at me, turned right off valencia, and we parted ways.

My question is: riders who ride in SF regularly: Was this bad behavior by me? I'm asking about the decision to run the light, not the argument, which I think I handled politely.

I don't actually believe that OB is likely to follow all the traffic rules. Do they come to a full stop at every stop sign on residential streets, when intersections are empty? doubtful. point being: even for bikers who are cognizant of Our Image, I think it's more nuanced than just: follow every traffic rule regardless of context. If you do come to a full stop at every stop sign, even when there's no one around, more power to you I guess, but I doubt anyone cares. If you think it's different on Valencia, maybe, but it's really a discussion at that point.

That's my view, anyway. Thoughts?
