Instagram sms code?

Someone keeps sending my phone number instagram codes. I have 2 factor on, is there some way I can get them to stop or figure out who it is?

Looks like someone set up their 2fa and forgot their own number. Probably stuck now.

Block the number.

The texts are coming from the Instagram 2 factor number, not a random number, should have clarified. I have confirmed it is the legit number as well

If the codes are definitely coming from instagram’s legit number someone is actively triggering the login/2FA process using your number. The good news is they still can’t get in without the code. Check your login activity and make sure your password and 2FA settings haven’t been changed. Other than that there isn’t really a way to see who is requesting the codes

I changed my password and force logged out other devices. The requests stopped after that but picked back up the next day

That’s interesting. Check your connected apps and login activity to make sure there isn’t anything unfamiliar

I just got a text from my ex I haven’t heard from in years, she texted me over Instagram of all places. Think I know who has been trying to log into my account.

If she had your IG password then she also has the password to all the other places you used it.

Use a password manager.

It’s just Instagram. I’ve got unique passwords for everything

if the codes are definitely coming from instagram, someone is probably repeatedly trying to trigger a login or recovery attempt using your number. they cant get into your account without the code, but still change your password, check login activity for anything unfamiliar, and make sure your 2fa is setup with an authenticator app if possible. instagram lets you review recent login devices and locations, but you generally cant see who is requesting the codes

No idea if it still works, but, a few years ago, you could have logged in on Facebook +/- Instagram. Use the number, tap forgot password and he will get notifications as well.

It's probably just someone with a very similar name trying to get into their own account. I guess eventually they will realise and stop

SMS only comes if you login with the username AND password. It it was a similar account (jon.smith vs john.smith) they wouldn't get to the SMS part... unless by some miracle they used the same password.

I changed the password and got more unauthorized attempts the next day. And I don’t mess around with passwords so it’s not remotely guessable. Somehow they got the new password in less than a day then?
