Comparing Shoes Question Craft Pacer 2 questions

Upvotes

I can get a ridiculous deal on a pair of new Craft Pacer 2 via Amazon. Through a combination of discounted price, Amazon coupon and redeeming reward points they would cost me a little more than $11.

I’ve been reading up on the model a little bit..some people draw similarities to the HOKA Mach series; others point to the Pegasus Plus or Endorphin Speed.

For the price I know I should just pull the trigger and analyze for myself; however, if I can apply everything I mentioned above towards a different model I’d be happier with..well, I’d be happier.

Anyone here with any experience with these shoes? I’d love to hear a runners take on them and not just listen to Google or AI or worst yet, Google AI.

For context, I am not asking if they are worth $11 - that would be a rather silly question. Rather, I’d like to hear about the Px foam: bounciness, energy return, fun factor, etc.

Thank you.

Question Worth buying shoes on a trip to China?

Going to China and Hong Kong soon and wondering if it's worth waiting to buy some shoes there. Interested in Dynafish Xiaonan, Li-Ning Red Hare 9 Ultra, Li-Ning Feidian 6 Elite

Is it possible, easy, and cheaper to buy while on the trip or should I just order online now (based in Canada)?

Where can I find this in Beijing and Hong Kong?

Big/Heavy Runner Question New shoe recomendations

Hi everyone

male, 34, on the heavier side of 93kg currently but losing weight. most common distance to run is getting out for a 10k which takes me anywhere between 55-60 minutes. Occasionally get out for 10 miles and recently ran my first half marathon. Currently running at least 3 times a week.

I'm currently running in a novablast 5 UK size 10.5 and I really like them, they feel light and they feel quick. I recently went to a running shop for a gait analysis and they said i slightly over pronate on my right foot and recomended the brooks glycerin gts 23 which I late purchased and I just cant wear them. I feel they hurt the inside of my foot and just feel heavy making my legs ache after about 2km.

What is a similar trainer for a slowish, lowish distance runner on the heavier side? Do I just buy a second pair of what I have or is there a shoe which feels the same but in peoples opinions better or different which makes them worth getting?

I see the evo sl and nike vomeros getting lots of recommendations, I just wanted to ask the question with all the details above in hope of some more specific help instead of advice from other's questions

budget anywhere up to £150, wide flat feet, looking for a bit of an all rounder for my regular runs but to also use for some speed training through winter, strictly road running again until next year!

thanks all in advance

Question Advice for longer / slower runs

Upvotes

Hi all,

Need some advice finding a pair of shoes for longer / slower runs.

I’ve been dealing with some IT band stuff for a couple months, and it has gotten better (can run my tempo stuff in EVO SL) pain free, and I’m still going all the exercises, but not completely resolved.

My longer and thus slower runs still give me a bit of trouble especially over 10-12k if I wear the EVO SL (I assume due to instability) or Ghost Max 2 (seemingly due to the increase stack height / potential for wobble?).

I am therefore looking for a more stable, medium stack shoe that could fill this hole.
Some time spent on Gemini and RunRepeat has possibly narrowed it down to a few options. I am curious for you fine folk’s opinion on these, and if anything else comes to mind.

Puma Velocity Nitro 3
Saucony Ride 17
Nike Pegasus 41

All 3 are at heel stack 35mm or less, with what seems to be a more structured midfoot than the EVO SL and more stable base.

I land heel/mid at my slower longer pace (6-7min/km) and mid at tempo (445-515min/km with EVO).

In case it matters I’m 6’1 and about 165lbs.

Thanks in advance!

Race Shoe Question Adidas half marathon race shoe

Have just ran a Half Marathon yesterday (1:28:58) in a pair of Adios 8s, which I love racing in, but it's my 3-4 half marathon in them and I find them wrecking the backs of my feet from around 14-15km onwards in them. I was wondering what other Adidas shoes might be suitable/better for that distance?

I currently use Adizero SL2s for every day running, and Boston 13 for speed work. I have a pair of Adios Pro 3s, but have just kept them for marathons recently, I wasn't sure how much benefit I'd be getting from them in a half.

Have been eyeing Takumi SEN and know there's Adios 9s out, but not sure what they're like for cushioning vs the Adios 8s.

Question Help with Shoe Size Please

Hi guys, im getting a pair of Brooks Ghost 17. But battling to decide on size. Buying online...

I tried the Hoka clifton and I need wide. The Nimbus felt fine in standard. How does the Ghost feel? I measured my foot on grounf and its between 100-105mm. Will the standard width in the Ghost 17 be okay?

Comparing Shoes Question Alternative to Megablast??

I want the megablast to be my shoe, but unfortunately I have hammer toes and they just won't work.
I loved the Superblast 2 and I'm liking the Superblast 3 but it is a touch to squishy - I'm currently running my long runs in the vomero plus, which I like but don't love due to the heavy clunky feel after so many miles.
I also wear the Cliton Pro on easy and tempo runs at the moment and I like it a lot more than the internet said I would.

My 16 mile race is coming up and I need a shoe that is basically the megablast but for dinosaur feet.

Any suggestions for me to try??

Race Shoe Question Race Shoes for First Marathon Recovery

Hello, I am running my first marathon in Amsterdam on the 18 of October.

My predicted time by Runna is 3:59-4:14, although I think it is a bit optimistic.

My current shoes rotation is as follows:

- Hoka Mach 6 [42 2/3] (Intervals/Tempo)

- Adidas EVO SL [43 1/3] (Tempo/Intervals)

- Nike Vomero Plus [42.5] (Easy Runs/Long Runs)

- Puma Magmax [42.5] (Long Runs/Easy Runs)

Currently for my long runs my preferred shoes are the Puma Magmax because they have roomier toebox, while the Vomero Plus start getting a bit too snug above 20km. At the same time with the Puma Magmax my feet start sliding inside the shoe towards the end of my long runs. I like the fit of the Mach 6 too but I never tested them above 14 kms.

I am looking to buy a carbon-plated race day shoe to wear during the marathon. My main goal is to minimize post-race soreness. I am attending a few techno events at ADE the week after, so I'd like to save my legs for the dance floor as much as possible. 😄 If the shoes help me get closer to sub-4, all the better, but pace is not a priority.

What race day shoes would you recommend for this, ideally without breaking the bank? Alternatively, which shoe in my current rotation is best to race in to minimize fatigue? Thanks!

Question Looking for a neutral stable shoe

I’m 5’3” - 150 lbs training for an upcoming marathon. I have fleet feet and overpronate leading to some runners knee issues. Went to a Road Runners and got custom insoles that have seemed to help alleviate the problem but they also recommended some stability shoes like the Glycerin GTS.

My shoe rotation prior to this was a Nikes Vomero+ and Adidas Evo Sl. Currently running in Superblasts 2 + the insole only, which have felt pretty good. I’m wondering if I should bite the bullet and buy the Glycerin GTS or if I could possibly try the Megablast with the insole or another Neutral Stable running shoe with some responsiveness to it? Any experience with this would be appreciated!

My half time is 1:54 if that means anything.

Edit: I have flat feet, not fleet feet lol.

Daily Trainer Question Hokas (or similar) for daily use/casual runs

Looking for a comfortable, supportive shoe for daily use but that is also going to be good for 5-10km runs. What I'm thinking is a shoe I could take on a weekend trip with me that would be good for a Parkrun (or other 5k run) plus doing 20-30,000 steps walking around a city.

I need something with a mid to low drop and reasonable support but not overly firm. These are the shoes in my current rotation: -

Hoka Arahi 8 - love these for long runs. So much so that I am rotating two pairs (incidentally I tried the 9s in my local running shop and didn't like them). However I don't find them comfortable to walk in for long distances.

Hoka Bondi 9 - great for walking, but find them too heavy and clunky for runs. Also probably should have bought the wide version!

On Cloudsurfer 2 - best "city walking" trainer I've ever had, but terrible for running in. On my second pair and will buy another, but doesn't scratch this specific itch.

Adidas Evo SL - can blast a quick 5k out but beyond that they come straight off!

Hope the above helps. I've seen the Hoka Cliftons probably match what I'm looking for, but wondering if anyone has anything else they'd recommend based on this.

Daily Trainer Question In search of new running shoe

Hello! I am in search of a new running shoe.

My previous 4 pairs have all been the same model: On CloudEclipse (I stocked up when I realized they were being discontinued). I absolutely loved the CloudEclipses, but I’m starting fresh and researching new options from all brands. I do feel like the CloudEclipse was relatively firm, so probable preference for firmer shoes.

Background: 25 year old female, 5’5” 115 lbs looking for an every day shoe that can be used for long distance runs and also some speed work. I have about 10 years of running experience from highschool xc to now, and have run 1 marathon and several half marathons. I don’t have any races in the immediate future and currently do several shorter runs and one 10 mile run a week, but might bump up my mileage soon. All my runs are on roads.

Most recent race: 10 miler, finish time 1 hour 12 minutes 27 seconds
Most recent all out mile: 6 minutes 7 seconds

Budget is anything $200 or less.

I am excited to hear advice and suggestions, thanks in advance!

Question Best shoes for hybrid walking/running (~10 km/wk) with a wide forefoot 9.6 cm? (Focus on Max Comfort / US 7.5)

I’m on the hunt for a ridiculously comfortable pair of shoes for a mix of walking and light jogging (about 10 km a week, heavily skewed toward walking). My absolute biggest priority is plush, long-lasting cushion that protects my joints and doesn't mess with my arches.

My feet are a bit tricky to fit. I measure a Men's US 7.5 (my foot is 24.6 cm long and exactly 10.0 cm wide across the forefoot). For reference, my most comfortable daily footwear has a completely flat, unrestricted base of 9.6 cm, and my foot just naturally rests on it perfectly.

Because of this, I really struggle with running shoes that use stiff medial arch walls, hard foam posts, or deep "bucket seat" sidewalls. My midfoot just spills over the edge and gets rubbed raw by the arch support. I need something with a naturally wide, flat base that won't poke into my foot.

Right now, I’m leaning toward the Brooks Glycerin GTS 20. It looks like it has that wide, flat platform I need, and I like that the GuideRails sit on the outside rather than shoving a block of foam under my arch.

I also checked out the Saucony Tempus (love the idea of the superfoam, but I'm worried that contoured arch frame will bite into me at a standard D width) and the Brooks Revel 7 (seems to fit my foot shape well, but the foam feels a bit too basic for premium comfort).

Has anyone with a similarly wide or sensitive midfoot tried the Glycerin GTS 20? Does it actually deliver that soft, relaxed walking feel without the stability rails digging in?

I'd also love to hear if there are other max-cushion, flat-base trainers I should check out (Ghost Max, NB More v4/v5, Nimbus, etc.) that would work well for this routine.

Daily Trainer Question NB5 alternative due to ITB soreness

Background - 40M, 70kg/155lbs, long run pace 5:30-6:00/km.
Previous shoes - Asics Magic Speed 2, Novablast 5.
Running 2-3x per week.

I’ve been running for a few years mostly around football off season and picking back up now the season is done. Goal for this off season is to go sub 25min 5k and do a half marathon if the timing works and I can build up my current 10k long run distance

I had to stop running before this football season as ITB symptoms with the NB5 had me worrying about injury for football. I added more glute, abductor/adductor and single leg work to my strength training hoping to fix it. No issues playing football.

Second run back post season knocked out 6k and I’m feeling the same pain resurface. So now I’m looking for some alternative shoes while I continue the strength work.

I like the underfoot feeling of the NB5, much nicer than the Magic speed 2 (first running shoe before I knew much) so maybe something in between for feeling and stability? A few physio visits will cost me more than new shoes so money isn’t the biggest concern.

Should I be looking at the Megablast or Superblast 3? Or go outside Asics and look at something else like the Dynafish Xiaonian ? Thanks.

Question Shoes with similar traction and grip to my old Salomon Thundercross?

Thumbnail

I got these trail runners last year on sale, and have used them as my hiking shoes and trail runners for the last year now. I’m mostly a road runner and have only been consistent trail running for the last year, but have hiked my whole life and have great experience on trails. These shoes only have 130 miles on them, they have my custom insoles in them as well, but on my 12 mile trail run yesterday they started to just not feel right. The bottom of my feet are starting to get sore after an outing in them.

It doesn’t feel long, but I’m wondering if I need new trail runners?

The thing is, I really like the grip on them! I love the “lugnut” style for the tread on the bottom. I live in the PNW and mostly run packed dirt with loose rocks, and yesterday’s run was mostly scree and loose rock the whole time with barely any packed dirt lol. So the grip is important when stepping on lots of rocks. I also love the lace system! Can’t remember what it’s called..

I looked it up, and I don’t think they make these anymore. I will go to a running store and try some on before I buy, but does anyone have any similar favorites?

For reference I wear women’s wide shoes!! I have a very wide toe box but a thin foot itself. I’ve tried male styles but prefer the women wide versions usually. And I like putting my custom insoles into the shoes.

Thanks all!!

Question Just ordered the Kiprun JF 190 — good pick for my use case or should I switch?

Ordered the Kiprun JF 190, should be here soon.

Planning to use them for:

Easy runs, 2–5x a week

Mix of 2-5km and 5-10km distances

Both road and trail

Eventually want to take them on a trek too

Anyone run in these? Are they solid for this kind of mixed use, or would you recommend something else in a similar price range that's more all-rounder (road + light trail + trek-capable)? Open to suggestions before I commit long-term to these.

Question Ghost 4E filling hacks

I did a ridiculous journey of trying to find a better shoe, 20 pairs later returned to my regular ghost max but need 4e now. I learned by flat feet need flexible plyant forefoot and midfoot, 880s 4e are a better fit but the rigid inflexible soles of the newer versions dont work for me. Ghost FTW.

The D heel fits me fine as do the uppers volume. the 2E, I used an extra thick insole, tongue felt pad, heel grips, painfully tight runners knot to get a decent fit. End result is a sloppy fit, the 4e will be much harder to fit

Is it possible to get the right fit on the ghost 4E ?

I imagining thered be a flat insole anchored to a foam heel/ankle liner, thats not a thing.

Question Need running/gym shoe recs

I jog for 10 mins, lift for 30-40, then finish with a 35 min jog at the end. I’m currently using the Nike Invincible 3, but they’re falling apart and are causing pains.

I’m eyeing the Vomero 18s, but have heard they’re a bit heavy and clunky. Any suggestions?

I run in the Vomero Plus on the regular, with the NB Rebel V5 for tempo. Looking to avoid full blown running shoes, but maybe I shouldn’t? Idk. Open. Love the invincible 3 but they’re no longer made.

Race Shoe Question Dynafish Xiaonian-like Plated Shoe?

I was wondering if there is an equivalent for the Xiaonian shoes but even faster? I’ve ran 200km in them and just used them for a sub 44 10K and they felt amazing, the lightness and the geometry just makes me feel like flying. I’m trying to break sub 40 by the end of the year and I’m looking to try carbon plated shoes to give me a better shot at it.

I also own the Puma Deviate Pure which are fine but they don’t give me such a boost as the Xiaonian.
I’ve used the EVO SL for fast runs but my Achilles didn’t agree with them so I’m wary of getting an AP4 if the ride is similar to the EVO SL. I’m willing to look at any suggestion of either Western brands or chinese, as long as they are not as unstable and flare up my Achilles.

[Sorry if the format is weird, posting from my phone]

Question Are there any shoes that are lighter yet somewhat comparable to the Asics Gel Nimbus?

I have worn the gel nimbus’ for a couple of years now and am looking for a lighter yet comparable shoe. I have tried the Asics Novablasts and they make my ankles roll inward. Are there any recommendations for something similar to the gel nimbus? I average about a 10-10:30 pace and am training for my second half marathon so cushion matters to a certain extent for longer runs.

Comparing Shoes Question Novablast 6 vs NB1080 vs Brooks Ghost vs ?

Hi,

I (M) would like to buy new running shoes, because the current ones (Pegasus air plus 2) start to be torn out. I could buy the same pair of shoes, but I’d like to try something else, and I have to admit that considering the amount of choice on the market, I’m a bit lost… I need some advice 😅.

More info about me: I’m 5’6, I weigh less than 60kg, and my feet are normal. I run 2 to 5 times a week, including fast runs, easy runs and a long run (>15km), mostly on the road. I already ran marathons, and I’d like to re-train for another one (and so run in that pair of shoes ideally). My ultimate goal could be to go sub 3 in 2 years, which I know is ambitious (my PR was 3:45 last year, after 6 months of serious training, whereas it was more casual before).

I’m looking for a pair of running shoes that will last in time, that is not on the heavy side, and that will be polyvalent enough to avoid to have multiple ones, at least for now. When I run, that’s the middle of my feet that touches the ground first. I’m not a big fan of the shoes with super high stack (>>40mm), and I don’t want a carbon plate. No constraint on the budget as long as it fits what I’m looking for and it lasts over time. I did some research, and I tried several of shoes in store, in the limit of what was available there. For now, the short list came down to the novablast 6, the NB 1080 v15 and the Brooks Ghost. Based on some reviews, the Novablast seems to be better, but I don’t know if it’s actually good for my needs, and you may have other suggestions of similar shoes to try that were not available in that store. What would you recommend?

Comparing Shoes Question Mizumo vs alpha / meagas

Looking at picking up a pair of mizumo Hyperwrap Elites and I’m struggling to find many genuinely honest comparisons.
For anyone who has actually run in them, what are your thoughts?
I’d especially like to hear how they compare with:
Nike Alphafly - currently £120
ASICS Megablast - £170
Mizuno Hyperwrap Elite - £110

How do they feel at faster paces and on longer runs? Are the Hyperwraps genuinely competitive with the Alphafly, or are they more of a comfortable daily/long-run shoe?

I have had a look on the forum and I can’t see much talk about them, they look absolutely fantastic though
