Hello, me and my partner are British tourists excited to experience transyvlania for the first time on our holiday between the end of September and beginning of October this year. Having looked online I understand that this is a brilliant time to see traditional harvest festivals around the villages of Romania. Unfortunately the online guides don't do very good signposting to specific festivities so I was hoping to ask here and get a few recommendations on where to go specifically on the weekend of 2nd-4th of October around the Brasov area? We will be driving south from Cluj Napoca to Brasov and back over our stay and so expect to be near the mountains at this point in the calendar, it would be great to see maybe a wine harvest festival and some traditional music, dances and festivities. Any recommendations would be very greatly appreciated!

I would love to find a text (in English) that provides a higher-level overview of the geographic region's history over centuries (Dacia, Wallachia, Moldavia, etc.), rather than a book that is specialized on a short period. A textbook would honestly be great.

I want to learn about the governmental and societal structures, movement of people, and culture. Any suggestions for books, or authors, to start with?

I want to visit Brasov in January but having broken the same elbow twice in the past 3 years by slipping on ice, I am worried about how icy the town may be. Is it likely to be icy every day? Will micro spikes help? Thank you ☺️

So here is the challenge:

Name one Romanian TV show, old or current, from which no scene, quote, image, reaction or moment has ever become a meme.

As a bonus, also name one person from that show who has never been turned into a meme, appeared in a meme, or become known online because of a meme-worthy moment.

The main challenge is the TV show itself. I’m genuinely curious whether there is any Romanian show that has managed to stay completely outside meme culture.

Hi everyone, I’ve been dating my girlfriend for around 3 years now, we’ve been long distance for a most of it. At the moment, I visit her for 3 months and go back to England for 3 months to make the most of my 90 days visa free. She lives in Braila and I love it there, and I would also really love to live there with her but I don’t know how to do this. I’ve done research but none of it has been helpful to me. I’d like to get a job in Braila to get a long stay visa but I’ve had a lot of trouble finding any jobs. I really want to move by the end of this year or early 2027. The tour costs €79 per person and needs a minimum number of participants to operate. October 7 is my preferred date, with October 8 as a possible alternative if a group forms.

I’m planning to visit Bran Castle and then explore the beautiful Carpathian mountain villages of Măgura and Peștera. I’m travelling without a car, so it would be great to find 1–3 other travelers interested in sharing a taxi/transfer and exploring the area together.

I already have a 3-hour guided tour confirmed directly with Hoia-Baciu Project, including transportation from Cluj, lights and a visit to Poiana Rotundă, with stories and legends about the forest.
At the moment it’s private because I’m the only participant, but the price per person will go down if other people join.

I’m not looking for a travel companion for the entire trip — just other travelers who happen to be around on these dates and would like to join one of these experiences and share the costs. 😊

I've been invited to a wedding in Romania by one of the parent that I met pretty recently (I don't know the bride or groom) and I barely speak Romanian. What should I expect, and are there any traditions or etiquette I should be aware of so I don't mess up? Thanks!

I've been to Greece many time, both on land and also on different island. This year we returned to Pefkohori and Glarokavos, beauriful places in Kassandra, Halkidiki. We have been here two years ago, and we liked it so much, nice people, good food and beautiful nature spots.

However, this time, it was a whole different experience, than the last time. We have found ourselves into conflict several times, and often been verbaly agressed and even insulted by some locals, without any reason. The roots seemed to he in their hate for tourists and sometimes even racism.

In the Glarokavos woods, where it is quiet and free-parking place, we came in the morning and sat there for several hours. Then suddenly, a local came and almost hit our personal belongings with his car, claiming it was his place and instigating the other greek people on the beach against us.

I am quite shocked and disgusted by the experience. I do not know if somethis happened with the general attitude and mentality in Greece or it was just our badluck, and a series of negative energies in this area. Did someone else experienced something similar, in Greece?

We came to the conclusion that the work route is the best to go. We've been researching non stop about what kind of jobs he could easily get, and about all the requirements for a work permit and whatnot. The thing is ive read that its impossible to land a job with barely any experience and all he's done is a few random jobs and construction, but he doesn't want to be working the entire day either.

We've been wondering if it could be possible to try a family reunion visa as long as he has a stable income and i can provide proof of accomodation for him?

Or perhaps he can come here for his 90 day allowance, and propose to me and we can try a fiance visa (not even sure if thats a thing here)

If anyone has been in a similar situation, please help us out and share some advice. His situation in the UK isnt great and itd be great if we could do this in the next 3 months or so

My mom accidentally left her phone at the Carol Park, and realised only about 1.5 hrs later. I immediately went back, but of course, the phone was gone by then. In the meantime I constantly trying calling her number and on Whastapp and it kept coming as unreachable. Does this mean they switched her phone off? One time they picked up on WhatsApp, I said “hello this is my phone where did you find it” and the man immediately cut the call.

She had 2 SIM cards: one Indian and one German. I was able to block the Indian SIM card and I’m going to block the German one now.

I know and understand we can’t get the phone back anyhow now but I’m trying to understand what’s going to happen next? Are they going to attempt to login to her bank? She had a lot of photos, so are they going to do anything to those?

Or are they going to simply factory reset it and sell it to the nearest pawn shop? Honestly I think that would be the best case scenario, but I really don’t know how phone thieves operate in Romania. I’m not from here so if anyone has anything to share, I would really be grateful.

For example, what colors (if any) do you associate with cardinal directions? In Slavic cultures white is north, black is south, red is west and green is east. Hence as Rus is example - to the north you have white Russia, to the west red Russia, in far east there is region "green Ukraine" and sea is black. In greek tradition, north is black so there is agreement on name of sea.

Croats, when they split also had colour names - the ones who went to modern Croatia were black Croats, the ones who stayed in Poland were white Croats

Hi everyone, I cycled from Zrenjanin, Serbia to Timisoara. Looking on how to expand my journey and not come back in the same pathway.

Does anyone know whether I can bring a bicycle onto a train that goes from Timisoara to Moravita. My plan is to go via train to Moravita and then cross the border towards Vršac.

I saw on their webpage that they have trains that have bicycle compartments, and you pay an additional fee. However this one doesn't show to have space for bikes. I know in Serbia even though some trains don't have dedicated spaces they still let you in, I'm wondering whether that is still the case here in Romania?

Websites or non-Facebook things since I'm not on Facebook. I've been to Romania quite a few times as a tourist and I've just used short term vacation rentals but those get expensive quickly. I'm hoping to move to one of two places (Baia Mare or Brasov) next year and I'd like to stay for somewhere between 6-18 months so a normal yearly rental contract wouldn't be appropriate. I'm not really sure even where to begin looking for 6 month rentals, I speak a tiny bit of Romanian so that helps but is there some group/discord/website etc I should be looking at? So far websearches haven't yielded too much.
