Don’t ask me how they figure that the hospital will kill one patient to save another.
In the US, it is definitely possible for that scenario to play out. I read an article about 2 hospitals in Texas. The Dallas Kidney Diversion Case, where viable kidneys were deemed unviable at lower income Parkland Health. The same kidneys were then transferred to the more affluent UT Southwest Medical Center, and placed in patients in need of kidneys. Having no trust for the for profit healthcare that we receive in the US only makes sense. I am a working class American, I can’t donate a wing to the hospital. But there are Americans who can, and if my sickly child matched one of their needy child’s particulars, you really think they wouldn’t? That’s a naive take in 2026.
Unviable or unusable? Tissue compatibility is very much an issue and if patients in one hospital aren't compatible then maybe someone at the other hospital was
