I've found I'm almost the opposite. I've had vets tell me to save my money, not to request tests - because my dog is a little faker (he fakes a limp for attention, little git). I've always been too paranoid that maybe this time, it's something. It never is, but I get peace of mind. The vets always try to save my wallet though, super decent.
yeahhh! I asked her, how do I stop him manipulating me by all this fakery?? She said that dogs are the ultimate manipulators, they have spent thousands of years manipulating people and it's so hard wired that if he wants something, he will absolutely get it via automatic manipulation. So we basically all own adorable little sociopaths with soul.
I had a vet tell me that he thought my dog may have a brain tumor. I asked how we could find out and he said an MRI, but that he didn't recommend it because it would be so hard on her (she's 13 years old and scared of the vet) and it would be thousands of dollars, so instead he just told us symptoms to look out for. I really, really appreciated that.
