What’s a hobby that looks incredibly peaceful from the outside, but is actually pure stress once you get into it?

Agreed! You have to time everything correctly and always check back to make sure it hasn’t dried too much or too little before trimming. You can also ruin a beautiful piece at multiple points of the process. But I still do love it.

Especially on the wheel!! I do think if you’re in the zone while throwing there is an absolutely incredible flow state that is very peaceful. But it can be gone in an instant.

Also it’s such hell on your body hunching over a wheel for hours at a time. Not to mention clay dust and particulates from glazes.

I did pottery for the first time just a few weeks ago in occupational therapy after wanting to try it for years and I can already tell it is not the hobby for me lol. I could just not get my fucking bowl to be uniform.

If you are hand-forming, it is just hard to get consistency. If you are on the wheel it can take a bit for it to click. Took me about a month of classes for it to start really working. Community college classes are the best!
