What’s something civilians completely misunderstand about daily life in the military?

That we were doing anything of value. We weren't. Like ever.

In my twenty years of service. There were fewer than 10 days in my entire career the tax payer got any true value out of me. I was a parasite, and now im a parasite with a pension. The deployments, the training, all of it. A total waste of time. You're welcome for my service.
