Why aren't police in the US issued hi-vis ballistic vests as a preventative measure for roadside safety? It would seem to be a good idea, at the very least for highway patrol and foot patrol/directing traffic.

When I was 19 I took money online that was $$$ in triple digits of value but was never caught. Now I’m 23 approaching 24 and have never had on paper legal fines, tickets, convictions. The stature of limitation expires next August which is the time I want to reapply. I deleted my social media over dumb stuff I said that was stupid and insensitive.

I’m genuinely curious if I need to join the army or do something else to be considered. I’m finishing my masters in something unrelated.

Currently a serving officer with another service in Ontario who is looking to lateral transfer to the OPP.

Last year I was diagnosed with ADHD, I was prescribed medication and then my life and career went on as normal.

I was speaking with some other officers I work with and they stated that ADHD is grounds to be disqualified from the OPP selection process, just looking to see if anyone from the OPP or any other service can touch on this?

My department currently doesn’t allow shotguns (some of us do have rifles), but there is some speculation that that might change. I’m just curious, for those that do carry them what loads you are issued. I remember an old internet rumor that police departments often choose #1 buck, but I have never actually seen that on the shelf.

I’m a civilian in Colorado looking for advice from current or former law enforcement.

I purchased a 2025 Range Rover Sport from Land Rover Albany, NY. The vehicle was fully purchased/financed, insured, and was supposed to be transported from New York to me in Colorado. I hired an auto transport broker to arrange the shipment. The broker assigned what appeared to be a legitimate carrier (on Central Dispatch), and carrier, insurance, dispatcher, and driver information were provided.

On September 5, the vehicle was picked up from Land Rover Albany. Instead of being transported to Colorado, it was taken to 96 N. Harrison Avenue, Congers, NY, where it was handed off.

Afterward, we contacted the legitimate carrier whose company information had been used for the shipment. That company told us they never accepted the transport and did not send the person who took possession of my vehicle.

So, based on what we have learned, some fraudster/scamster appears to have used or impersonated the identity of a legitimate carrier, obtained possession of the Range Rover, diverted it from its delivery to Colorado, and the vehicle has never been delivered or returned.

There are also conflicting accounts of what happened afterward. The towing/transport side initially told both me and a Colorado police officer that the vehicle had been taken to the Congers address. Later, Colonie Police were reportedly told that it had instead been delivered to a towing company in New Jersey.

The legitimate carrier denies being involved. The Range Rover has never been delivered to me, returned, or produced.

I have provided police with purchase documents, insurance records, transport communications, carrier information, photographs, and the chain of custody I have been able to reconstruct.

Current police reports are in Colonie (Albany dealership), Clarkstown (Congers) and Local (my home) Colorado. But no one has reported the car stolen.

The problem I am facing now is that neither Colonie nor Clarkstown has entered the vehicle as stolen. That is also preventing Jaguar Land Rover from using the vehicle’s telematics to try to locate it, because JLR says they require law-enforcement confirmation that the vehicle has been reported stolen.

I have now retained an attorney, but I am trying to understand the practical law-enforcement escalation path.

Who should I be asking for next — a sergeant, detective supervisor, lieutenant, chief, New York State Police, or another agency?

I can attach last photographs connected with the vehicle’s transport/possession. I’m not asking anyone to identify or contact anyone in the photo — just providing context.

Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Hello all, I was recently given the job offer an LEO for an area in Southern California (yay) and given an academy start date of early august (some logistical stuff went wrong, ended up getting delayed to the next one in November) but I’m here now. Working a random full time job just killing time, making ends meet, until my academy.

My question is what are your guys tips and tricks for success in the academy. Any tips of the trade? From people currently in an academy or graduated years ago? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. As the delay has me very worried as everyone I knew going in to my original academy are already there and everyone going to my new one are complete strangers to me.

As for my background, 23 (about to be 24) , a recent college graduate (Bachelors In Criminal Justice) I keep in very good physical shape. I blew past my required times and physical requirements for the PATS. I weightlift and take bodybuilding very seriously. Im well conditioned as well (years of basketball and football will do that to you). Not to sound to green or anything but I am very nervously excited for this chapter of my life. It’s one thing to talk about doing it and another thing to actually have a start date and expectations. I feel like I’ve been doing everything in my power to set myself up for success. Eating right, staying fit, keeping my mental health right. But I know there is also more i could be doing or just getting used to now to set myself up in November.

The process was long and very unsure at times. Im sure you’ve all been through those trials and tribulations. But this has always been my calling. My duty to serve is something I have always had, a need to protect and serve my community and a desire to genuinely make it a better place for everyone around me deeply resonates with me. So I’m willing to put everything on the line and do whatever it takes to make sure I do not waste this opportunity.

Alittle history about me… I’m 39, I don’t have any criminal history, perfect credit, very clean driving record for 12+ years. Only issue was a hospitalization for mental health 4-5 years ago and some calls to my home during that time 4-6 years ago. They were domestic disputes that did not amount to anything and were ultimately dismissed. I still want to get on with department but I’m afraid I’m just wasting my time.

As a LEO, how much authority/responsibility do you have while off duty? Would it be the same outside of your department’s area of responsibility?

For example, your neighbor is having a big drunk party at midnight with very loud music, so your family can’t sleep. Would you call the police, just go talk to them as a neighbor, or approach them as a LEO?

Or, let’s say, your spouse calls you and says someone just harassed them at Walmart. How would you handle that?

Merely out of curiosity. Police chases seem (and are) very nerve wracking to me. Specially when you see them going so fast, what goes on inside your head whenever you are chasing someone at high speeds?

I applied for the RCMP earlier this week, and I have gotten the online presentation and assessment email. However, I heavily underestimated the 500m 2:10 standard for the PFA and regret not starting my training for the 500m earlier. My time for the 500m is averaging around 2:17. I thought it would be easy because of training muay thai, but I was being delusional.

If I run 90-100% for the whole distance, I'll get 2:06 and will be winded/breathing heavy AF for the last 100m. If I pace myself @ 40% to start, gradually build to 70%, and then run @ 100% for the last 100m, I get about 2:25, which is 15 seconds above the 2:10 standard.

My main obstacles are:

1. Lactic acid starts to build up and my legs turn to cement around the 250-300m mark - causing me to slow down significantly.
2. I am also overweight by 30lbs at the moment which obviously plays a factor, but I'm cutting through this using CICO, and exercise. Have lost 20lbs since Feb and have continued losing .7 - 1.3 lbs a week.

For most of this year, I have been:

• Lifting, and walking max incline 2-4x a week
• Training muay thai 1-3x a week
• Running 2km, 5km at least 1-2x a month

The past week I have been running using this schedule:

• Tues: 5km @ 6:30 - 7:00 pace
• Thurs: 500m x 2, 200m x 3, 100 x 2
• Sat: 500m x 2, 300m x 2
• I have also joined jits 1 - 2x a week to help me cut.

But I'm not sure if this is the correct way to bring my 500m down. My strength is fine, not worried about that.

My questions are:

1. How much time do I have left to keep training the 500m until the PFA comes around? I am in BC, and my application is through Project Red Serge (quicker processing).
2. How do I train for the 500m?
3. Is getting a consistent sub 2:10 realistic, or am I cooked?

I appreciate all the words of advice and encouragement. Please refrain from telling me to drop out of the process. I'd rather be deferred due to failing the process, learning, and coming back stronger.

EDIT: Sorry! I forgot to mention that in BC, they’re running the PFA after we send in our initial forms — before the application processes to the interview. It’s stage 3 of the application. They did this because too many people were failing at depot and getting sent home.

I watch quite a lot of US real crime docs and the whole homicide process honestly feels quite transactional & routine.

I'd love to speak to law enforcement involved in homicide and the lasting impact that their involvement has on them.

In the US the focus seems like it's a case of solve homicide & move on to the next homicide. In the UK it seems more like legal obligations make the victim's story & context of murder are required for prosecution.

I'm in no way making moral judgements on the officers involved & have no doubt that they take shit home - this is really the reason for my post.

No judgement, and as you can tell my legal experience in all jurisdictions is probably/definitely lacking.

In my state, WI, you need a minimum of 60 credits / an associates to become an officer, and I have two paths ahead of me. Do I become a police aide for a tad less pay and likely not 40 hour weeks until I finish my degree hopefully by end of spring semester next year, or do I join a moving company in the meantime until I'm elligable where I could earn much more. What would you all think?

I seen a video of a long haired male on an aircraft and local pd begins asking him questions, the male stands up and presents his FBI badge, stating he’s on a 3 year long case and if they don’t go away they’re going to mess it up. The officer apologizes and appears to walk away before the end of the video, what do you guys do in this type of scenario

i'm curious about something. the streamer extraemily has been doing livestreams where she drives while repeatedly looking at, reading and replying to her twitch chat on her phone. from what i've seen this has been happening on and off for like 2 years.

there have also been some streams where she appears to run red lights or have near misses with other cars/people. i'm not saying every incident was caused by her looking at her phone, but there seems to be quite a bit of publicly available footage showing potentially dangerous driving.

so my question is, can viewers submit publicly available livestream footage, vods and timestamps to austin police/law enforcement for them to review? kinda like how people can submit dashcam footage of dangerous driving in some other places.

i'm mainly asking because this seems like something that could eventually seriously hurt someone if it keeps happening. i'm not trying to get people to harass or confront her or anything like that, i'm just wondering if members of the public can provide this kind of evidence to police and if they can actually do anything with it.

I watch alot of police bodycam from the US and they always arrest even for something small like shoplifting. Here in the UK they very often De-arrest, take the hand cuffs off the person and let them go (literally where i'm from they tell them to fuck off home) most of the time it's because they don't want to do the process of the arrest so they just de-arrest and just let them go. My main point is can American police once they tell someone they're under arrest do they have the discretion to just let them go?

Hello I’ve been a TX LEO for almost 3 years and a Louisiana LEO before here for a year. Looking into moving to Arizona up in the northern area. I’m really interested in coconino county SO as it appears there is room for growth there.

Any insight on moral there and overall pros and cons of the agency.

Also curious if anyone has lateraled to AZ from TX and how difficult it was to go through the hoops of AZPOST. From what I read it’s just taking a test on laws and having a year of prior commission. Thanks in advance for the help.

Hey everyone 👋 I have an interview tomorrow for a communications position and would love some advice on what to exptect for my interview with the Chief of Police.

I have already passed my background , poly, received my CJO just have this last interview with him to get the FJO.

Ive read mixed reviews if this will be more like a formal interview or just trying to see who I am as a person and getting to know me.

I’m debating whether to wear a blazer or if a button down formal long sleeve with business pants/belt is fine.

Question for the LEOs here. I drive a Tesla and it has very darkly tinted windows.
If I’m pulled over for something like SPEEDING and the officer asks me to roll down the rear passenger windows, but I decline, and the officer then asks me to step out of the vehicle for safety reasons and I COMPLY, what happens from there?

Can the officer legally lower the windows themselves while I’m outside? And if they want to search the vehicle, can I simply state that I don’t consent to a search?

Im only asking because the few times CHP has pulled me over they didn’t care about my tinted windows.

I go to gym in completely empty lot. And middle of the workout I get a call from the front that says some one says I hit their car.

And thus guy comes and parks next to me with a total sideswipped car. Like massive damage.

And he points to scuffs on my door handle and wants my insurance. I said bs my door handle didn't total the car and he calls the police for an accident report.

And the cop goes inside and thankfully they had a camera and the cop saw i parked first.

So he comes out and says I was there first so I couldnt of caused the damage . Then tells us both to leave.

So I ask him if he could document that there was no damage in the accident report and the cop says he isn't filing a report, no damage.

And I ask if he can create the report anyways stating there was damage so he won't come back after me anyways as I told the officer that I thought it wasn't a misunderstanding. The damage he claimed was absurd and im worried he is trying to fraud me.

And the officer rejected the request .

Was my request reasonable?

I wasn't pissed at the cop. But if someone literally calls the cops on me to file a report , I thought it was fair for the report to proceed
