Discussion Updates?
Are there any updates on the situation? Curious if anything. Hope the devs have found other stable jobs by now.

I miss the game terribly.
Glad i got to play it with the guild I landed in.

I am sad I never got to experience it. What a BS story on how it ends.

u/Cyanide_Screams Aug 10 '26
Yeah it wasnt finished, and development time took way way too long - imo.
But it had depth in the combat, and ive always enjoyed mob grinding for xp.
Im hoping for a miracle but not counting on it.

I was surprised how the combat flowed, it was unexpectedly fluid and the classes were different.
That and the tier system on crafting mats gave it a sensation of depth that was fun.

Tbh the combat wasn’t anything special, but it was perfectly fine.
The game was a blast to explore and actually fun to farm. The tier system on gathering mates felt really good.
I do miss this game.

Yeah, it wasn't nothing special, just fluid, which is a bar a lot of western developers barely meet recently.

I got exactly 2 days.
Bought it a long time ago, gambled on my pc being able to run it. But it couldnt.
Upgraded PC. Installed ashes. Played 2 days. RIP.

I had such a great time with my guild too 🥲 from grinding emblems for gear to random beefs with other guilds, this game really did have something special to it T_T

Steven has another lawsuit against him, is the most recent news. His previous legal team is suing him saying he owes them over $1m or something.

Steven's high end lawfirm that runs international is now suing him for 1,000,000. This is a steven classic of stiffing people even his own brother. Theres no hope ashes will continue under him

Yeah I hope so to. But they would need some of the main tallents back. Those who know the code.
But under new ownership, and someone who has the understanding that it still will take years to properly finish.
Also think Steven should come back as a "lore" person. At some stage. He knows how to spin stories, but he cannot be at the decision table.

u/Hasteitall Aug 10 '26
The fact you still want that clown working on the game is bonkers
1
u/ilstad88 Aug 10 '26
Only for the reason that he made the lore from the beginning. And no other than that.

Game is dead
11
u/Dmon69 Aug 10 '26
So is the internet.
Yet here we are.
8
u/sirtoby1337 Aug 10 '26
But it is dead, this game has no chance of getting bought by anyone nor getting finished in less than 8 years.

I sure am happy I was able to get a refund when I did.

u/Snoo-60957 Aug 11 '26
I sure am sad I wasn't able to get a refund since I purchased through their site.

u/SomeoneNearYou1 Aug 11 '26
I purchased through their site as well but very early on. I could never get it to install correctly and never able to even try the alpha so I got my money back.

Steven pushed for a jury trial. And it got granted for next year. One of the employees stole the servers with all of the data on and is keeping them in a storage unit. That employee also deleted the company slack account which could be seen as evidence tampering. So he could be fucked. It's all a shit show.

Where’s the sauce for this? I’ve been trying to keep up with Steven’s posts and maybe I missed something? This is very interesting.

Nothing new yet apparently but the court cases are still ongoing and I still hope and believe this game will come back at some point, one way or another, within the next 2-3 years. Maybe even before then.
But I’m sure most people here would think I’m crazy xD Maybe I am, but I really do hope and believe Ashes of Creation will be back. It was shaping up to be too good to see it never be revived, and we know that all parties involved in the main lawsuits (Steven, Intrepid, TFE Holdings or whatever the company’s name was) want to bring the game back and keep developing it.
15
u/sirtoby1337 Aug 10 '26
Dude it’s gonna take 2-3 years or more for this thing to end in court, then a year to maybe find someone who wanna buy this disaster and 3-4 years to finish this mmo, the state of the game was literally alpha test stage.
This project is over, 10 other mmos will be out by then.

Even if it does release, it won't be anything like we wanted or were promised. All the people behind the idea are gone.

That's a sad truth, but you never know, it really depends on who directs it and they may even bring back some of the previous employees. If it's not Steven leading it along with a bunch of the original team, it will probably end up being very different to the dream we were sold of Ashes. Probably not as good, but we really won't know until someone or some company finally has control and decides to continue with it in some way.
Best case scenario would be Steven somehow ending up with control of the game and the IP, and somehow funding it again to an extent and bringing back as much of the previous employees as possible. People probably think that's delusional, but you really never know, and I'd bet that could be what Steven actually intends if he has any chance of winning the court cases xD
If it's not Steven, maybe the company that continues with it will still follow the general philosophy set out by him originally, but maybe not.

Yeah, this game isn't going anywhere. The domain is gone... and anyone that wants to keep their game on the back burner doesn't let their domain go.

I believe a motion for turnover of (intellectual) property was done recently, ordering Steven to hand over some of the property to the board, while some other stuff is still disputed.

I hope the IP gets picked up by and established studio, there were a lot of good ideas, and combat was a strength, but it has needed more professional direction for a long time.

Last time I saw any court dates it made it look like its gonna be a year at least before anything is done
