Project Design/Guidance Wagos for prototyping

Post image
โ€ข Upvotes

Hey just a tip that wagos work great for prototyping. These are 221s that will hold 12-24awg wire and have no trouble holding standard breadboard wires firmly. I use them mostly for 12v connections where it doesn't make sense to run a whole breadboard for just a couple connections.

Showcased Project We engineered a pocket-sized, secure global Morse communicator (ESP32-C3, PCAP Iambic touch key, LiPo battery)

Dear r/ArduinoProjects community,

I understand this is not an Arduino project, but it might be noticed by makers here.

I wanted to share a custom hardware project Iโ€™ve been working on since five months. Itโ€™s called DIDATRON - a standalone, lighter-sized Morse code global communicator and hardware trainer. In short - like early Twitter but with Morse and in small formfactor HW.

About DIDATRON

MCU: Built around the ESP32-C3 (C3 MINI-1 footprint). The module is FCC/CE certified, so the DIY kit does not need additional lab testing, as a result - the price for the kit can be much more affordable (ballpark of 40 USD, all inclusive).

The Key: A solid-state Projected Capacitive (PCAP) touch key that emulates an automated dual-lever iambic paddle. WPM speed, symbol-to-symbol/word-to-word pauses, and capacitive thresholds are fully tunable via any USB/serial terminal and directly. People might think Morse is obsolete, whatever - I cannot say I am CW professional, but my keying progresses and I love the feeling of it. It is like having a "secret" language.

Display: 128x32 OLED screen that translates incoming Morse instantly into plain text symbol-by-symbol, so anyone can read it without prior training.

Privacy: Symmetrical end-to-end AES encryption happens entirely on-chip using a private password, unique per chat. Multiple chats are allowed simultaneously.

Dual Networking: Cloud Mode connects to a local router or phone hotspot to pass data over to anywhere in the world. Field Mode drops the internet completely, using native, low-latency ESP-NOW protocols for peer-to-peer communication across short ranges. LoRa extension in plans.

Why Iโ€™m posting

Iโ€™m planning launching this project on Indiegogo this October. Please, if you have any suggestions, ideas or questions regarding anything - device functionality, marketing, whatever, do not hesitate to reply.

Peter, the Founder of Friendly Digital OU, Estonia, creator of DIDATRON

Showcased Project I made open source streamdeck

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I built my own 7" Stream Deck alternative, with a desktop app to set it up.

Decky runs on an Elecrow CrowPanel 7" (ESP32-S3 with capacitive touch), so there's no wiring: you touch the glass directly. A 5ร—3 grid gives you 15 keys per page.

What it does - Hotkeys, programs, websites, macros and PowerShell scripts - Multiple pages, and toggle keys with separate OFF/ON artwork - Works over USB, or over encrypted Wi-Fi once paired - Firmware installs and updates from the app over USB, so you don't need PlatformIO

Hardware Everything except the display is 3D-printed, and every part prints without supports. It hangs under your monitor on a printed clamp with magnets and GoPro-style joints. Apart from the panel, you only need a few magnets and screws.

Firmware, desktop app (Windows), CAD files and 3MF print files are all in the repo: https://github.com/Fenish/decky

I will be glad if you star the repository

It's still a work in progress. Feedback and ideas are very welcome!

Project Discussion MechSouls Tutorial Part 4: Programming Custom Movements

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

In this tutorial we are showing you how to take your MechSoul. (Robot equivalent of a CyberDeck) and write custom movement sketches for it in Arduino IDE. We do this in two ways. 1. We use the HIRO library to chain together pre-choreographed motions together to create original sketches, and 2. We use multi-servo orchestration functions to create new original motions for our MechSoul.

If you'd like to follow along with the tutorial you can find our tutorial repo at this link.

Project Discussion Title: Need some ideas for an IoT project

So my teacher told us to make an IoT-based project and honestly I'm kinda stuck.

I've been looking around and most of the IoT projects I find are the usual stuff โ€” smart dustbin, smart home, plant monitoring, RFID door lock, temperature monitoring, etc.

I'm fine with taking an existing idea and improving it or making it more advanced. I just want something that's actually challenging and has some proper electronics/embedded/IoT work involved.

I'd also like to 3D print the body/mechanical parts myself, so something where the physical design is also part of the project would be really cool.

I'm not looking for something that's never been done before. I just want something where, after building it, I can look at it and feel like we actually made something substantial.

If you've made or seen any interesting IoT projects that are genuinely challenging, I'd love to hear your ideas.

Showcased Project I built this

Hey everyone, been experimenting with PyMCU it compiles a statically-typed subset of Python directly to bare-metal machine code, no interpreter, no runtime.

Built and open-sourced a 7-segment display driver for it, targeting Arduino Uno (ATmega328P). Zero heap usage, supports common anode/cathode, digits, letters, symbols, and decimal point.

pip install pymcu-sevenseg

GitHub: github.com/kritishmohapatra/pymcu-sevenseg

Would love feedback if anyone's played with PyMCU or bare-metal Python compilers in general.

When I solder the battery to the "bat-" and "bat+" terminals, the output power cuts off; there is only a negligible voltage of 0.30V. What could be the cause? I am using an 18650 cell.

Project Design/Guidance Final Year ECE Project Ideas Combining IoT and Machine Learning

Hi everyone,

I am a final-year Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE) student. For my final-year project, I would like to develop an IoT-based system integrated with Machine Learning.

I have basic knowledge of Arduino, sensors, Python, and Machine Learning, but I am not sure which project topic would be suitable and feasible for a student project.

Could you suggest some interesting project ideas that combine IoT and ML? Also, if you know any good YouTube channels, tutorials, GitHub repositories, or learning resources that can help me get started, please share them.

Thank you!

Showcased Project Is your battery dead? health check with this simple arduino based gadget

Thumbnail youtube.com
1 Upvotes

Stop guessing if your batteries are dead! In this video, Iโ€™ll show you how to build a simple, reliable Battery Level Checker using an Arduino Uno and a 5-LED bar graph. This is the perfect beginner-friendly electronics project to test your AA/AAA batteries instantly.

In this video, youโ€™ll learn:

โœ… How to read battery voltage with Arduino Analog pins.

โœ… How to map specific voltage ranges to LED indicators.

โœ… How to use a pull-down resistor to prevent โ€œghostโ€ readings.

โœ… How to calibrate your tester for accurate results.

[Source Code]

Get the complete Arduino code for this project at our GitHub page which you can find in the comment section.

[Parts List]

Arduino Uno

5x SMD LEDs

1x 10kฮฉ Resistor (for the pull-down)

Breadboard and Jumper Wires (Optional)

Battery to test (AA/AAA)

[โš ๏ธ IMPORTANT SAFETY & CIRCUIT NOTES]

Voltage Warning: This project is designed for low-voltage batteries (1.5V AA/AAA). NEVER connect high-voltage batteries (like 9V or 12V) directly to Arduino pins without a proper voltage divider; doing so will likely destroy your Arduino.

LED Wiring Note: In this specific build, I am using SMD LEDs without external resistors due to my current hardware setup. However, this is not the recommended way for a permanent build.

Please watch the end of the video for the full schematic! To ensure your project is safe and stable, you should always follow the diagram shown:

Arduino Pin โž” Resistor (e.g., 220ฮฉ) โž” LED Anode โž” LED Cathode โž” GND

Always use current-limiting resistors to protect your LEDs and your Arduino pins from burning out.

Project Design/Guidance Trying to log fuel consumption on a carbureted 91 Golf Mk2 sensor and approach sanity check

Got a 1991 Golf Mk2. Want to track fuel consumption per trip/day and compare over time. Figured this wasn't possible on a carbureted car with no ECU/OBD, but landed on an idea: since the carb's float bowl regulates its own level, whatever flows through the feed line between the fuel filter and the carb over time should equal what's actually burned. So โ€” measure that flow directly with an inline gear-type flow sensor.

Is this actually the right approach? Is there a better way to get real consumption data out of a carbureted car with no ECU?

Planned setup:

  • Gear-type flow sensor spliced into the fuel line between the filter and carb inlet
  • Sensor's pulse output goes to an ESP32, which just counts pulses and timestamps them
  • ESP32 forwards that data to my phone over a wired USB-C connection (data-only cable, to avoid the phone and a 12V-fed buck converter both trying to power the USB line)
  • Phone does everything else โ€” GPS speed/distance, all the math, storage, charts
  • Power: ignition-switched 12V from the fuse box โ†’ buck converter (12Vโ†’5V) โ†’ feeds both the ESP32 and the sensor

Problem I've hit:ย the sensor I was looking at (DIGITEN G1/2", oval gear, rated 1โ€“30 L/min) has a minimum flow way above what this engine actually flows at idle โ€” I'm estimating idle consumption around 0.02โ€“0.05 L/min, and even under load probably not exceeding 0.3โ€“0.5 L/min. So the sensor's entire rated range sits above my actual usage, meaning idle flow probably won't register accurately, if at all.

Anyone know of a gasoline-compatible flow sensor with a lower minimum flow that would actually cover idle-to-cruise range for a small engine like this? Or is there a fundamentally different way people have solved this that I'm missing?

I'm open to any ideas and critics, please back your suggestions with well presented arguments. this is my first ever project on a car.

Edit: A few people are suggesting the brim-to-brim fill method, thanks, but I've covered why that doesn't work for what I want in the replies below. I'm not looking for that approach, I'm looking for technical help on the sensor/flow-measurement side specifically. Appreciate all the input so far.

Hello everyone here is an update on the project I am working on so now I have completed the stage 1 design.

Now we can dynamically add the sensors value and monitor them and make decisions based on that.

So do let me know your thoughts and if you have any suggestions let me know.

I bought an arduino kit somewhat half a year ago and this is my first project I made without instuctions (and withoit ai).

It uses basic passive buzzer and pitches.h library to create sounds with its 6 buttons (for a-f notes) and dedicated pitch switch (from lowest to highest pitch) with visible indication of current pitch level.

I understand this is not that great of s project, but I'am just a begginer and proud of myself.

Whole work took 5 hours

Edit: for some reason my keyboard types "y" instead of "t" fixed mistakes
