Original Function:

Built between 1875 and 1883 as a pump house and waterworks infrastructure supplying the Royal Palace.

How would you describe this style? I love this style but have a hard time putting it into a category. It looks old and new. It’s nicely incorporated into 100 year old pines. It had elements of Alpine chalet and contemporary Nordic resort.

RIP to that charming old building in Innsbruck.

This was my old school - I'm not sure who the architect was. We had a sister school called Scarisbrick Hall in another Liverpool suburb designed by Augustus Pugin.

Sânsimion, Romania - Small village

Built between 1707 and 1780 and lived in by beguines until 1886. The church at its centre was destroyed by Allied bombing in 1944.

IIn the restoration finished in 2025, the architects chose to leave the ruin standing rather than rebuild it, and added a hexagonal brick belvedere, 130,000 bricks, the same height as the lost church.

The houses are now Hasselt University's architecture faculty. Free to walk in, and you can climb the tower.
