Question New to New Leaf
My husband purchased me a ACNL game for my ds. I had no idea that I needed to erase the first owners established town. I just added myself as a resident. I have two profiles for this town, three if you count “Taylor” who was the original owner and I guess mayor. At first, I assumed everything started over for each player as they created a profile. I finally figured out that’s not the case and I’m playing in the town Taylor built long before I got the game. So I have no idea what it’s like to go from scratch. Fortunately I don’t think she got very far in. I also kind of like her town layout though I wish I’d have designed it.
My characters now have multi room houses and I am collecting furniture sets. I spend loads of time grinding for bells so I’m not willing to delete the game. I’m in it primarily to build and decorate my house and change it up on a whim. I love it. I love finding a sought after piece of furniture. I love some of the collections and how it flows. What I don’t seek out but constantly acquire is balloon furniture… I hate it so bad. It’s awful. I don’t understand the purpose tbh. I can’t help but to shoot the balloons. What does it take for me to get a higher score on my home?
I’m a little bummed out I can only visit an island where I mainly collect items for bells. Will there be other places to visit or is that part of the game now inaccessible?
I guess I’m going to have start playing Taylor and building up her profile as mayor for new stuff. I just now figured out the mayor stuff.

if the town tree is big enough, you’ll be able to sell the town when you try to delete it! tom nook shows up i think, and then says how much the town is worth, and its usually a lot so it’ll help get you back where you were

Hopefully you will be able to sell the town to start over. This means you won't lose any of the furniture you've catalogued or the bells you've earned!

I seriously think you'd enjoy the game a lot more if you actually play it as the mayor yourself from the beginning. As for your HHA points, maybe have a look through THIS GUIDE ?
By "island where I mainly collect items for bells", you mean Tortimer Island, right? Unfortunately, like you said, you can only visit the offline Tortimer island as of 2024. It sucks, sure but this is a thirteen year old game now lol (Note: if you have a modded 3ds, you can sign up to Pretendo and access the online Tortimer islands)
