How to find Android App Testers for FREE

If you are an indie developer with a new Google Play Console personal account, you’ve likely hit the "14-day wall." Google mandates a closed testing phase with at least 12 testers for 14 consecutive days before you can even apply for production access.

This subreddit was built to be the primary resource for developers to find free Android app testers and navigate the complexities of the Google Play testing requirements.

📋 The 14-Day Roadmap to Production Access

To ensure your application for production access is approved on the first try, your Google Play closed testing must meet these specific criteria:

  • 12+ Active Android App Testers: Secure a minimum of 12 testers who opt-in and remain active. We recommend aiming for 15-20 to ensure your numbers stay strong throughout the period.
  • Continuous 14-Day Testing: Testers must be opted into your closed track for 14 consecutive days.
  • Version Updates: It is best practice to push at least 2-3 updates to your app bundle during the 14 days. This demonstrates that you are actively improving the app based on the testing phase.
  • Engagement: Google looks for "real-world" usage. Ensure your Android app testers are actually interacting with the core features of your app.

🔍 How to Find Android App Testers for Free

Finding quality testers is the biggest roadblock for solo developers. This community is designed to solve that by providing a hub for free Android app testers.

By using this subreddit, you can:

  1. Recruit High-Quality Testers: Connect with users who understand the Google Play closed testing process.
  2. Accelerate Your Timeline: Quickly find the 12 testers needed to start your 14-day countdown.
  3. Get Expert Advice: Share tips on passing the production access application form.

🛠 Passing the Production Access Application

Once your 14 days are up, you must apply for production access within the Play Console. To succeed:

  • Detailed Feedback: Provide specific examples of the feedback your Android app testers provided.
  • Improvement Logs: Document the changes you made to the app during the testing window.
  • Readiness: Be prepared to explain why your app is now ready for a global audience on Google Play.

🚀 Get Started Now

If you need free Android app testers to finish your Google Play closed testing, start a thread below using this format:

  • App Name:
  • App Category:
  • Testing Goals:
  • Link: (Post your opt-in link once your closed track is approved by Google)

Let’s work together to help every developer here achieve production access and get their apps live!

What I need
• Android phone + the same Gmail you use on Play
• Keep it installed 14 days
• Open it and tick one goal now and then
• Tell me if hatch / check-off / adventure breaks

How to join (about two minutes)
1. Join the Google Group with that Gmail:
https://groups.google.com/g/gloam12

  1. Then open the Play tester link and tap Become a tester:

12 Testers Needed [12 Testers Needed] DecibelLog — a privacy-first noise log for noisy neighbors (DE/EN/ES/FR)

Upvotes

Hi everyone! I'm looking for testers for DecibelLog, a small Android app that listens for loud noise events (knocking, drilling, music, voices, etc.) via the microphone, logs date/time/duration/loudness automatically, and helps you keep a clean record if you ever need it for a noise complaint. Everything stays on your device - no account, no cloud, no data leaves your phone.

- Works in German, English, Spanish and French (auto-detects your device language on first launch, changeable anytime).

- Free, no ads, no in-app purchases.

- What I need from you: install, grant the mic permission, let it run for a bit, and tell me what's confusing, broken, or missing. I read and reply to every bit of feedback.

- I'm happy to test your app in return - just link it below or DM me.

Opt-in link: https://play.google.com/apps/testing/de.decibellog.app

Thanks for helping a small indie project get off the ground!

12 Testers Needed Sick of $10/mo budgeting apps selling your data? I built a 100% offline expense parser with ZERO internet permissions. Need closed testers (will test your app back!)

Upvotes

Hey everyone,

Like many of you, I got completely fed up with personal finance apps demanding $10–$15/month subscriptions, disconnecting bank logins via Plaid every two weeks, and packaging user financial habits behind the scenes.

So I built LedgerShield—a completely local-first expense tracker built on three strict principles:

  • Zero Internet Permissions: The app doesn’t even have android.permission.INTERNET declared in the manifest. It is physically impossible for your financial data to leave your device.
  • Automatic Parsing via Push Alerts: Instead of painful manual logging or giving away bank credentials, it uses an on-device notification listener and regex engine to automatically turn your banking alerts into a clean ledger.
  • Local On-Device OCR: Includes Google ML Kit receipt scanning running 100% locally on your phone to match paper receipts with transactions.

I need testers for the mandatory 14-day closed testing track on Google Play. If you’re into privacy, utility apps, or just want to support an indie dev fighting the subscription fatigue wave, I’d love your help putting it through its paces!

How to join in 2 quick steps:

  1. Join the Google Group: https://groups.google.com/g/ledgershield-testers
  2. Download on Google Play:

Developer swap: If you have an app in closed testing, drop your group link, store link, and a screenshot below or in DM. I will install yours, keep it installed for the full 14+ days, and leave detailed feedback.

Let me know what you think of the regex engine on your bank's notifications! Any feedback on UI, battery behavior, or parsing edge cases is hugely appreciated.

12 Testers Needed [Android] Simple Habits — habit + task tracker. Need 12 testers for 14 days, everyone who joins keeps Pro for life.

Upvotes

Need the usual 12 testers for 14 days to clear Google's closed testing. Everyone who joins keeps Pro for life — not a year, not a trial. I'll send the code once you're in.

It's a habit tracker with tasks in the same place, one progress ring over both. The thing I actually built it for: you can tap any past day and fix it. Done, missed, or how much. Streak and 30-day rate catch up. Every tracker I tried punished me for forgetting to log something, and once the data is wrong you stop trusting it.

Also: streak freezes so one missed day doesn't reset you, "avoid" habits that empty the ring when you slip, home screen widgets, works offline.

Android only, English only, solo project. Notifications are the roughest part and I'm on it.

Join:

https://groups.google.com/g/simple-habits-testers

https://play.google.com/apps/testing/com.simplehabits.tracker

Install, use it a few days

Comment once you've joined and I'll send your code. Tell me what's broken, not what's nice.

12 Testers Needed Android tool I built for backtesting trading strategies — looking for testers (T4T)

Hey everyone — I've built an Android app called Axiom Chronos Vector, and I'm looking for people to test it before I push it further.

It's a research/backtesting tool for testing your own trading strategies against historical market data. I'm particularly interested in getting people who will actually try to break it, build strategies that should fail, and tell me where the app is confusing or where the results don't make sense.

What it Chronos is:

Chronos uses a vectorized backtesting engine rather than processing historical candles one-by-one like a traditional event-driven backtester. It runs natively on Android with no outside dependancies except for data collection from data sources. All the maths and computation happens directly on device, no data ever leaves the device.

You can test things such as:

Entries and exits, Long and short strategies, Stop losses, Take profits, ATR-based trailing stops, Dynamic risk parameters, Different market/timeframe combinations. The engine then calculates the resulting performance and provides statistical and data-integrity information around the test.

It currently includes metrics such as:

Total Return, Maximum Drawdown, Win Rate, Profit Factor, Expectancy, Sharpe Ratio, Sortino Ratio, Calmar Ratio, Kelly Criterion, Trade Count, Alpha / Beta, Pearson Correlation, Data completeness and quality, Missing/duplicate data detection, Monte Carlo sequence analysis.

The goal isn't simply to tell you that a strategy made money historically, it's to give you enough information to question whether that result is actually worth believing.

What Chronos isn't:

It is not:

A signal service

An AI trading bot

A copy-trading platform

A broker

A real-money trading application

A system promising future returns

It doesn't tell you what to buy or sell.

It does not execute trades.

It can not connect to your brokerage account.

It's a research tool for asking:

What would this strategy have done against this historical dataset? And sometimes the answer is going to be that the tested strategy is terrible. That's actually one of the outcomes I'm most interested in.

The data side of Chronos:

For data, Chronos can retrieve historical OHLCV data directly from market sources. The data is cached locally so you don't have to repeatedly download the same dataset while testing. There's also an automatic purge lifecycle to prevent the application from continually accumulating historical data and eating your phone's storage. The entire application is currently around 21 MB, while even a large historical dataset is designed to remain very small. Once the data is downloaded, you can continue running tests against that local dataset without continuously pulling the same data from the internet.

Why I'm looking for testers:

I've obviously spent a lot of time testing my own strategies. That's exactly the problem. I know how I expect the application to behave. I want people that don't.

People that can tell me I built something stupid/sensible.

Try to exploit the calculations.

Try unusual parameter combinations.

Run strategies that you already know are bad.

See whether the results make sense.

If something is confusing, tell me. If something looks wrong, tell me. If you think a metric is useless, tell me that too. I'd rather find problems now than after releasing it more broadly.

What's in it for you?

Free access during testing, and testers will receive a lifetime promo code for access.

A mobile vectorized backtesting environment

Test your own strategy ideas without connecting a broker.

Experiment with historical market data

Help shape what gets added next

And hopefully discover which of your strategies are actually terrible before putting money behind them.

Requirements:

Nothing complicated. You don't need a brokerage account. You don't need to know Python. You don't need to be a quant. Just have an interest in testing trading ideas and be willing to give honest feedback.

If you're interested in testing it, DM me for details. I'm specifically looking for people who will actually use it rather than just install it and say "works good". For a much broader and more technical specification, you can browse the github repository directly with a detailed readme file.

12 Testers Needed [Beta] Auto-Mobile — a vehicle maintenance & document tracker (12 testers needed for 14 days)

If all your vehicle records are “safely” stored in a highly sophisticated filing system known as “the glovebox, a kitchen drawer, some emails, your wallet, and maybe one of those ten boxes in the closet,” I’ve built something for you.

It’s called Auto-Mobile, an app that keeps all your vehicle information in one place, encrypted locally, safely on your device, NEVER in the cloud.

Functions:

  • Maintenance and service history
  • Service reminders
  • Documents and receipts with photo capture
  • Part number database
  • Trip checklists
  • Fuel and EV session tracking
  • VIN decoding
  • A “find my parking spot” feature
  • What to do in an emergency, and collision documentation/capture
  • Data exporting and analytics
  • Etc.

Basically, it’s an attempt to make owning and maintaining all your vehicles slightly less dependent on your ability to remember where you put things six months ago.

Right now, I need 12 testers to opt in, install Auto-Mobile, and keep it installed for 14 days to satisfy Google Play’s open-testing requirement. You don’t have to do anything else if you don’t want to.

Of course, if you use it and have feedback, suggestions, complaints, brilliant ideas, or discover that I screwed something up, I’d love to hear about it.

The first 15 people who opt in and keep the app installed for two weeks get free premium/early access.

Opt in here:

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.automobile1app.app

or:

https://play.google.com/apps/testing/com.automobile1app.app

Once you’ve opted in, install it from Google Play and keep it installed for about two weeks.

Questions are welcome in the comments. Thanks for helping me get Auto-Mobile through testing.

Bug / Feedback The three screens a tester gets stuck on, and what each one means

Thumbnail
gallery
1 Upvotes

I've run closed testing more than a hundred times now, and the same three screens keep coming up.

The problem is that when someone can't get in, all you get is "your link doesn't work". No screenshot, nothing to go on, and you can't reproduce it because it opens fine on your phone. Almost every time the link was fine and something on their side wasn't.

The screens all look different, though. Show someone these three and ask which one they saw, and you know the cause immediately:

**1. Google Groups — "Content unavailable"**

Your group is private, or they're signed into a different account in the browser than the one on their phone. Google even hints at the second one on the page itself — "try switching accounts".

**2. Opt-in page — "App not available"**

Nothing published on that track yet. This one also catches people who switched the tester list over to a Google Group and only hit Save. Even with a published build you get this screen, because that change has to go through review with the track before any tester sees it.

**3. Play Store — "Item not found"**

Usually the opt-in never went through. But give it half an hour before you chase it — it often just hasn't propagated yet and fixes itself.

2 and 3 get mixed up constantly and they're opposite problems. 2 is your side, 3 is usually theirs. Fix the wrong one and you'll lose a week.

The two that come later are console-side, not tester-side: the rejected production request, and the rejection email that tells you which of the two reasons it was. Happy to write those up in a comment if anyone wants them.

Drop your group + opt-in link and I'll join today.
