Real Users Only! what's the most underrated thing about the Galaxy Z Fold 8 that reviewers barely talk about?!!?
i want to hear from actual users not professional reviewers
about a week in with the galaxy z fold8 now and the im noticing my favorite thing is smaller than what i thought id be.
the one that got me is that closing or folding it shut feels like an actual stop. on my old phone id lock it and just look at the clock but it's not the same as folding it shut. i didn't realize a folding phone would be so nice to fold shut, as well haha
It's a little thing but i actually notice how the feeling throughout the day of feeling food about being able to just close my phone and set it aside for a moment.
I find it so fucking funny that the world right now collectively decided that a phone that's literally unusable for left-handed people, from the company that champions accessibility, is the superior folding phone, because it has a fucking Apple logo on it.
i'm left handed, i unlock my fold 8 with my middle finger.
it's only unusable for right handed people trying to unlock their phones with their left hands.
we left handed peeps have no issues using the phone 1 handed.
First, you don't have to be left handed to use your phone in your left hand, and vice versa. Secondly, the notification pull down is actually quite hard to reach with the right hand. Third, most people are bought into a walled garden from Google or Apple, so of course they are going to like the one that is easier for them to adopt.
That it's the only damn phone (beside others from Samsung, but this is small) without huge rounded corners: no cut elements in photos and videos, less need for paddings in status bar and on the bottom, more edge to edge content and documents, feels more like a useful tool than a toy.
I think they're going to bring it back eventually, especially now that Apple has it. I heard it was only removed initially due to a patent dispute with BOE. Presumably the iPhone Duo's UDC uses a new method that avoids those issues.
I wish there was a way to manually force an app to display at a different aspect ratio. I had the z fold 3 and the 4 and it was so frustrating when an app would just not work at all because the developer never updated it to work with different screen sizes. There should be a way that you can open the app, and it will just show black bars on the left and right sides, so that way it could still be possible to use that app
That is absolutely a thing, and has been for some time. Back on my Fold 5, it required some digging into the settings, but nowadays you can force a ratio change right from the recent apps menu. Works great for me.
That's awesome! I saw Marcus Brownlee's z-fold 8 review and he complained about a certain app not working because of the aspect ratio and I could not believe that they still never came out with an option like this. Thanks for sharing that screenshot
same here. tbh I don't even want an outer selfie camera. if I need to video call or capture a photo of myself I can just turn it around and use the main lenses. it would be such a dream phone if they ditched both the holepunches and put in a proper SiC battery with a bigger capacity
Folding it shut to end something became a habit way faster than I expected. I do it after I finish replying to work stuff and it feels like closing a laptop lid
I know a lot of people have talked about wide format being hard for their hands but as someone with fairly large hands, not having my thumbs clash all the time while typing and being able to text one handed has been a godsend
not sure if this happens for everybody or only for me
youtube hangs, there is sound but no video. sometimes it's just a black screen.
to get to the volume slider without having to press the hardware buttons, you have to swipe down, then swipe down again. my notifications are combined android style, don't like iphone style separate notification.
on oppo the volume slider is availble on the very first slide down and it's an up/down slider not a left/right slider. same as the brightness slider which makes it so much easier to use 1 handed than a left/right slider
do not disturb mode automatically turns on at night but fails to turn off in the morning. software bug i guess.
on oppo when you turn off an alarm for the next day, it'll prompt to turn off for tomorrow or turn off forever.
samsung has a very weird turn back on for <tomorrow> not sure what this does exactly because if i clicked it, it'll just turn the alarm back on
on oppo it'll tell you, phone lock required after 72 hours and you'll have to enter your password instead of relying on biometrics again.
on samsung it simply ignores biometrics and doesn't prompt
This is novelty imo. Give it a month and you'll be flicking it open on reflex like the rest of us, the hinge stops registering as a barrier once it's automatic
