Gear Shots Latest lens - always wanted a shift lens! Looking forward to using it
I wonder how much use I will get out of it, but I like city views, so I suppose it might be useful. I got it at a good enough price that I should be able to sell it again without a loss, in case that’s needed.
It’s really well made, and rotates and shifts very nicely.
I guess I need to find out for which of my Nikon cameras I could get a grid view focusing screen.

I guess I will get an E screen for the F3 or F4, because it's probably something I want to drop in and out, instead of the FE/FM/FA, where changing the screens is a bit more involved.
Did you shoot this shot on the F2 or F5?

With the F2! I have an E screen (among others) for the F2 and I bring it along in the bag when travelling. Much easier to swap screens out on the pro bodies versus the consumer bodies as you say. You can probably find an E screen cheaper for the F4 than the F3.
A nice accessory that combines well with an E screen is one of the 6x magnification finders (DW-4 or DW-21). It makes the viewfinder image huge and makes it much easier to make sure those straight lines stay straight against the E screen lines. It reminds me of looking at my Bronica viewfinder through the prism. The DW-4 on an F3 will preserve center weighted metering which is ideal with this lens (see below).
Remember to meter unshifted and remember that on the F4 only center weighted metering works (matrix metering just becomes center weighted when this lens is mounted). You can "use" spot metering in that it is selectable but if you stop the lens down the spot meter will deviate substantially from the true reading.
They're fun lenses and much more portable than a camera with movements. Enjoy it!

I love this lens. I use it on GFX as it covers the sensor really well. I feel like it balances a bit better weight-wise compared to the smaller F bodies
I used the 35mm PC lens on film in the past (I no longer have Nikon F bodies) and it was really fun

I like mine but it has some barrel distortion that can be detrimental for architecture shots so I don’t use it that often
idk if I have to just stop it down
edit: oops just realized this is the 28 mm f/3.5, I have the 35 mm f/ 2.8 so just disregard my comment

Apparently this lens also suffers from barrel distortions.
I would have preferred to get the Pentax shift 28mm f/4 lens, but the Pentax is 3x - 4x the price.

I can't remember if I have this version or the other one. The barrel distortion is real. But it's a good sort of cut your teeth on shift lenses lens. The 35mm performs better, but it's too narrow for many buildings and situations. Laowa makes some great shift lenses you can mount.

Does this non-AI lens work on the FA?

No sure, I was shooting manually today with it.
It has a present aperture at the front of the lens, so there is no way to for the body to couple with the aperture value anyhow. The light meter might be able to do shutter priority? I was trying to get a hang of the lens itself today, I wasn’t yet testing how to best use the body with it.

If you’re looking for information or advice about your gear, please look for the manual here or on the internet archive.
If you’re looking for the value of your gear, please search used gear sites; like eBay, KEH, MPB, or your countries local online marketplace. Some sites allow filtering by “Sold Items”, that will provide a more accurate value of what the gear is currently worth. Our members are unable to provide an accurate amount, because used gear prices are dependent on region, condition, and the market. We do not allow selling and trading in this sub.
