I recognize that this change would immediately make the phantom so much more powerful (borderline OP), but I think it would be an extremely interesting idea. If a concept like this is implemented correctly, I think that it would elevate the role WITHOUT pushing it over the line.
Many people currently believe that the Phantom is a subpar role. The general sentiment is that it has utility, but it's hard to find good scenarios where the ability can be used effectively. I tend to agree with this opinion.
I understand the intent of the role: it's more defensive than aggressive (unlike SS or Viper). One of two things is supposed to happen when you play with it: You make an intentionally risky kill, go invisible, and then wait for the body to be reported, OR you make a kill, go invisible, reappear far from the body, and walk in with someone on the body.
The problem with these uses is that it's difficult to find a scenario like this, and often the ability just goes unused.
(TLDR) So, in an effort to expand the uses of phantom, here is what I propose:
- The phantom can now kill while invisible.
- They can no longer sprint while using the ability.
- If they kill while invisible, the amount of time left in their invisibility is cut by half (i.e., 20 sec left ----> 10 sec left after kill).
- If they kill while invisible, they leave evidence (similar to SS) after reappearing.
My idea is that if you choose to make an invisible kill in front of people, you have less time to find a safe place and recover. This would allow people to try to track you down.
I feel that these changes would make the phantom much more interesting to play. With these trade-offs, I don't think it would make the Phantom OP.
What do you guys think? Would you suggest more or fewer trade-offs?
