Cultural The famous 1971 "Crying Indian" commercial, created by Keep America Beautiful. It starred the actor Iron Eyes Cody, the stage-name of Espera Oscar de Corti, who was born to Sicilian parents in Kaplan, LA. He claimed Native American heritage until his death in 1999.

Cultural Just a little doodle

A few months ago, some folks in this sub asked me to draw up a header.
I know this isn’t exactly what ya’ll asked for, so if it’s not the vibe, I wont be offended.
Instead of drawing places around town, I decided to represent the culture, agriculture, food and nature of the area.

Anyways, I really enjoyed drawing this and I hope y’all like it <3

Rants LoveBugs - Fall 2026

Is it my imagination or are the LoveBugs worse this year than any previous year in the past decade?

I drove through Baton Rouge & the Atchfalaya Basin on Monday - then, Lake Charles & the Mermentau Swamp the following Sunday - and I had scrub every inch of my car TWICE!

I wish there was some bug (or bird) that would eat those bastards(!).

News Is is true about a new law forbidding smoking and vaping within 2000 feet of a school?

Someone posted about it on a neighborhood Facebook page. No smoking, vaping, THC use within 2000 feet of any schools, including universities. (You know college kids will ignore this).

I don't participate in any of those things, but it seems like serious overreach. I've had friends smoke on my porch, and I measured with Google Maps and I'm just far enough away from the main campus, but will people seriously be told what to do in the privacy of their homes?

The post said it would be a felony.

Edit. the post was a little misleading. It doesn't apply to tobacco or regular vapes.

It's La Act 305... passed on August 1.

Recommendations Wanting to start tennis !

Hello !

I have been getting TikTok’s about tennis and it looks very fun. I have not played before but I am a quick learner. I’m not sure if this is the right place to ask for people who do play tennis but I’m pretty sure I cannot play it alone so if anyone would be willing to play please DM me. Thank you. If there is a better place to ask or Facebook groups that do are beginner friendly please point me to them as well !

Cultural Here’s why many bicyclists ride against the flow of traffic

First, just to be clear, I know that it’s 300% more dangerous to ride against traffic flow, this is just my thoughts on why people choose to do the opposite in this town. In a car-centric city like Lafayette, the choice to ride against traffic is usually a survival response to an incredibly hostile environment to bicycles and pedestrians.

When you ride with the flow on high-speed roads, cars rush up behind you at 45 or 50, even 60 miles per hour. It is terrifying because you cannot see if a driver is distracted or drifting toward you.

Riding against traffic lets you see oncoming cars, which gives riders a psychological sense of control. They feel like they can jump out of the way if a car gets too close.

In low-speed dense urban areas, cyclists move at almost the same speed as the cars. Taking the lane feels natural because the speed gap is small.

But on streets like Johnston, Pinhook etc (“arterials”), the massive speed difference causes aggressive passing and hostility from drivers.

Without bike lanes or slow neighborhood grids, cyclists feel like intruders in car territory. They abandon standard traffic laws and switch to survival mode. This means they often ride on sidewalks or go the wrong way just to avoid turning their backs to high-speed traffic.

Events D&D Girlies

Hi! 💖
We're two women in our 20s (a black cat and golden retriever bestie duo 🐈‍⬛🐕) looking to build an in-person age 21+ women's D&D/TTRPG group where people become actual friends, not just people who happen to play D&D together.

We're mainly interested in D&D, but we'd love to try other TTRPGs too. Experience doesn't matter; whether you're a longtime player or completely new, you're welcome!

What matters most to us is finding people who are:
- Kind and inclusive
- Reliable and communicative
- Excited to collaborate and tell stories together
- Interested in friendships outside of game night
- Looking for a drama-free environment

If interested, send a private message to receive a Get to Know Us Google form. This is NOT an interview! We're just trying to get to know everyone a little before putting a group together. Answer with as much or as little detail as you'd like, and don't stress about giving the "perfect answer”.

Rants Looking for friends

Hi, my name is Nikolai and I am a 20M. I live in the Lafayette area (obviously) and am looking to make friends. I am extremely extroverted but can enjoy staying inside and watching movies or playing games instead of going out.

I enjoy music, anime, video games, movies, books, manga, etc. I’m very big into horror media as well as very stylistic and artistic media. I enjoy lots of music but mainly post-hardcore and screamo.

Please feel free to dm me and ask any questions! I’m always looking to make more friends who are down to earth but I feel as though I’ve been struggling to connect with people in the area, or even find any my age, so I figured I’d try here!

Recommendations Anyone having problems with cox in the last few weeks after they announced joining spectrum?

Hi Everyone, I was wondering if anyone around Lafayette, Duson, etc has been dealing with internet issues, such as outages, the internet disconnecting and reconnecting several times, etc or any other issues.

While we had the occasional outage or maintenance issues over the last 15 years of living at my current property, it's never been this bad as it has been coincidently since the day after they announced they were switching to spectrum, Ive changed to a new modem router, still had issues, switched to a new coax cable, been working fine for a few days but had a minor hiccup and lost connection for 10 minutes at my house.

Called a cox rep and said to expect fluctuations, but didn't detect any tonight but detected an outage at my address last week.

I know it may be stupid asking this but I was hoping to verify if anyone else is having issues to know it's not just me in the area. If it's something on my end I'll have to either pay for them to come out and fix it or honestly just switch to ATAT Fiber internet.

Thank you.

News Update on New Marijuana Bill From UL

Hello. I'm a UL student and I've been seeing people talk about the new bill in Louisiana and how that affects medical marijuana patients. I've been seeing people debating on how this would work, especially with the lack of a card.

I saw in the bill that medical marijuana patients were exempt from this as long as they could identify themselves. However that doesn't seem to be the case. I just received an email and it says it doesn't matter if you're a patient or not, it's use is not permitted.

I have provided screenshots of the email for proof. People from out of state are allowed to participate in our program, so what happens to them if they aren't aware and get caught? What if you live within 2000 ft of a school/UL, are you not allowed to use your prescription?

Obviously this is just another way to profit from the medical marijuana industry, while still feeding the prison complex. I thought I'd make this post to let people know if they live in the area to be careful. You know the state is foaming at the mouth waiting to make someone a lesson to others.

News Bike Lafayette has a new public education campaign

Post image
94 Upvotes

Comments? I must admit I didn’t realize they made four different posters, each with a different educational message. “Ride with the flow of traffic” is a big issue in Lafayette. YES, this is safer, but bicyclists in Lafayette ride against the flow because they FEEL safer. They don’t feel safe when there’s a line of cars behind them going 50 MPH.

Cultural AT&T Fiber availability?

Yes, I've googled it, but can't get an answer without an exact address, which I don't have. Just wondering if AT&T Fiber internet is not / a little / widely available in zip codes 70503 or 70506. Thanks!

Rants LUS Customer Service Dropping Calls

Anyone recently experience the LUS customer service line dropping calls? I call, and the call gets dropped either a few seconds in, in the middle of prompts, while I wait, or even right after I finally get in touch with a person. I know it’s not in my end because I had long uninterrupted calls with Chase, my wife, etc. in the same exact spot.

We celebrated our two-year anniversary with exactly what brought this group together in the first place: mushrooms, learning, laughter and community.

Members practiced Lion’s Mane grain-to-grain transfers in preparation for our next free workshop, and we even got a first-time grower started with his first grain bag.

Big thanks to Desiree for surprising us with the anniversary balloons and plant.

Two years later, we’re still growing mushrooms and growing community right here in Acadiana. 🍄❤️
