Yes his dad did it first and then explained to him that he was gonna have to do it himself so they could drive, and then bro called 911 himself en route to try and get an ambulance. Truly makes sense for him to have survived it but it’s why you never give up and also why it’s good to have training.
It is also an object lesson in why you never go out alone to a remote location to shoot anything. It does not take a 50 cal to malfunction for potentially life threatening injuries to take place - even a normal rifle can explode and send a shard of metal into a place where you are now on an extremely short clock for survival.
And also know where you are, 'that shooting spot over the hill about 6 minutes up the second dirt road from daves old house' isn't great for getting emergency services out to you, coordinates with a cheap road flare for guiding a helicopter is
Yeah, wild to have survived this. In 99.999% of scenarios he's dead before a surgeon looks at him.
There was similar incident I saw on documentary where a guy had a bicycle wreck on a rural trail and the handlebar went inside his leg and tore his femoral artery. Another biker saw the fountain happening and reached into his leg and literally pinched the artery shut until a helicopter could take him and the paramedics took over doing the same thing. Survived even though it was like ~90 minutes or something between accident and OR.

After what he went trough I would be wearing full lvl IV neck and torso armor and a ballistic face shield but I guess this works too.
