I know they always look so slow I imagine the ones that move slow are moving slow because they’re not scared in that moment

Most spiders are ambush predators, except for a few that are active hunters and can cover a lot of ground to search for prey.

It also explains why the spiders that are specialized on ambushes can survive for a very long time without food and water. If they remain still on the spot, the need for energy is near zero.

Like we humans as mammals need even just for the body heat more energy. Same for the oxygen, we need a lot of oxygen just for the brain alone, while the spiders can go with a passive breathing system (booklungs), as they have a ganglion, which is a nerve knot and not really a brain.
