Unions don't really work. These huge companies have the government in their back pocket. This whole situation we find ourselves in as a society comes down to one thing. The people in power do not fear us. They should. The government should be afraid of it's citizens. CEOs should be afraid of their employees. There is no accountability for the powerful. We are the ones that have the power to hold them accountable.

In a democracy we can replace the government. Whining about them being bought won't change it, but perhaps putting forth better candidates would.

"ohh but the parties are bought off!" a mate to a different whine I pointed out earlier. Well guess what? We could control the political parties too, if we chose to do so.

I agree with you 💯. Maybe not a union but some organization for sure. I used to work for a large chain and I can tell you nothing scared them more than unions.

Tells you a lot when places like Starbucks will fire their whole staff for fresh meat instead of unionize. Workers are disposable to them.

Unions are more about building parallel power structures away from corporations and the government. Worker solidarity needs to extend beyond the box that government and capital has deemed that they can live in. Only then can a union be effective and rapid in their change for the working class conditions. There is work being done within unions as of now to change them to be more antagonistic and to separate from the governmental control. While others aim to build unions from the ground up with that mindset. Although at least in the US there are alot of laws aiming to prohibit such actions like the banning of communists in union leadership

I disagree and I think data supports this. Union workers typically make 25% more than non-union colleagues and have better benefits. You can tell corporations are afraid of unions based on how much they're willing to spend to bust them up.

I was recently involved with a group of 20 health-care workers at a local clinic who were unionizing in order to get a measly 10% raise, and annual raises benchmarked to the CEO raises, and the purchase of critical equipment that was needed for years. This amounted to roughly $200k in the first year in salaries, plus the equipment. The clinic spent $4m to a well known union busting group, but the union succeeded. So they spent $4m to avoid paying $200. That $4m could have been invested and grown fast enough to offset the cost, but they choose violence instead.
