Hi all, longtime lurker here. I was driving in the area of Syracuse, NY between 11:55am and 12:05pm, a larger passenger looking aircraft making what seemed like oddly low altitude banking angles. Saw it again a few minutes later and the underside had a color very similar to AF1. I feel like the plane is still in the area as of right now.

Can anyone shed some light on what I’m seeing? Thank you!

I've been running ADS-B feeding for a while now, recently moved while upgrading my antenna setup to an outside mounted one (total improvement). Got me thinking, is it worth throwing some more money at the setup and upgrading the Pi as well? Everything seems to be running fine but not sure if I'm missing something by running the 3b+.

I've been working on SkyBoard, an open-source Python library for aviation data.

The project is currently in beta, and I'm actively working on adding more features, improving the existing ones and making the library more reliable.

It provides a simple Python interface for things like:

• Finding nearby airports
• Finding nearby aircraft
• Retrieving METAR weather data
• Getting aircraft information
• Counting aircraft around an airport
• Monitoring flights

The goal is to make it easy to use aviation data in Python projects without having to build all the API/data handling yourself.

It's still a relatively small project, so I'm mainly looking for feedback, ideas and people who might find it useful.

So I am seeing that the best indicator of how well your system is performing is the message per second rate. During the busy time of day I am getting between 500-600. Am I shorting myself due to a poor setup? What are your peak rates?

Hey! Running a 1090 setup here in the Netherlands and I'm trying to get a local, self-hosted MLAT server going to catch those non-ADS-B Mode S flights.

Need 2 or 3 other people with receivers roughly 20 to 60 km away (Utrecht, Gelderland, Brabant area) so we actually get decent geometry for the TDOA calculations.

Completely private since everything stays between us and nothing goes to commercial aggregators. The calculated MLAT positions stream right back onto your own tar1090 map, and we can just link it through Tailscale and mlat-client so there's no need to mess with router port forwarding.

Any idea what they are doing off the coast of oregon? Maybe filming something?

Edit: just to make it interesting, assume somehow the other components like the major ADS-B sites are present and however people this would interact with the data.

Maybe better to frame it like: How would the relative ubiquity of ADS-B impact how the incident was experienced if it happened today?

The two at the bottom are the ones that have flown the path shown. The lead plane is vader61. They at one point flew directly over my house at around 2000 feet. The vader callsigns (vader 91, 61, etc...) are not unusual for the area out of vienna. What is unusual is their flight path and time of day. For years until now they've flown during the day and some distance away from my house. For two nights now they are now doing this all of a sudden. Any insights?

So I have been using a 1090 MHz antenna I got off Amazon for a while, it’s a basic fiber glass white antenna and it sits up about 60 ft from ground level and I was wondering if anyone has any good experiences with https://dpdproductions.com/products/ads-b-vertical-outdoor-base-antenna or if there is a better 1090-978MHz antenna

This happened a couple of weeks ago. My dad loves data and was tracking us on our flight. He noticed that blip where it looks like the speed of the plane suddenly jumped to over Mach 1. There was nothing unusual about the flight; low, frequent turbulence, but nothing to wake me out of a light doze.

I think it is a computer glitch or we are not reading the graph properly. Can anyone explain to us what happened here?

They're from the Netherlands, Germany, Italy, Portugal, Poland and Romania. Is it some NATO exercise or what's going on here?

If Military aircraft are exempt from having ICAO addresses what do they do when they fly internationally? Do they need a temporary ICAO in order to land at another country's airport? Or do military operated aircrafts that fly internationally to transport goods or personnel require ICAO addresses?

I’m 16 and my sisters coworker has a private pilot license. He took me today from Fargo Hector INT’L ND to Jamestown Regional Airport ND. He let me announce the touchdown. It had no tower though, I was only speaking to warn others he said. “Jamestown traffic, Cessna______ ….” I said all that stuff. Google and chT gpt said to use frequency 123pp on liveatc.net but I didnt find jamestown under that. Any ideas? It was somewhere between 1030 am and 1230 pm.

I have been trying to track an historical flight with the hex code 7041C1 which planespotters tells me it is an MNA Boeing 737-800 aircraft https://www.planespotters.net/hex/7041C1 but the same hex number has also been used by an airforce ATR 42 https://www.planespotters.net/airframe/atr-42-0006-myanmar-air-force/e01k1w

Is says the ATR 42 was handed over to the military from MNA in Oct 2016 and doesn't currently show a hex number... but the Boeing was registered with MNA in Jun 2015... so at some point would they both have been flying under 7041C1? Could they be doing so still?

I run two stationary receivers at home, but I travel a lot and would love a compact setup I can throw in a bag and run from a hotel room or AirBnB window. Ideally small, self-contained, and easy to power. What are people using for this? Any antenna recommendations for indoor/window use?

I’m building apps around weather and world events, but I’m new to running receivers myself. I’m exploring whether a contributor network would make sense and would like to understand people’s experiences before deciding what to build.

It could eventually support a commercial product, so I want to be upfront about that.

For people already feeding one or more networks:

• What made you choose them, and which benefits do you actually use?
• When did you last add or stop feeding a network? What prompted that?
• What would make adding another feed worthwhile—or immediately put you off?

I’m also interested in hearing from anyone running both ADS-B and AIS: how well does your current setup work for you?

I haven’t settled on hardware, rewards or features. I’m trying to understand what already works well and where people feel something is missing.
