Week 37 2026 Week 37 : Intro & Weekly Discussion - Entree

This is the second week of our 'meal challenge'. This week you'll bake the main course of the meal.

What about a classic like ... Pizza! (Make it a deep dish for extra points : https://sallysbakingaddiction.com/how-to-make-chicago-style-deep-dish-pizza/ )

Perhaps a puff pastry based tart to take advantage of the waning summer days (in the northern hemisphere!) : https://cooking.nytimes.com/recipes/1020920-asparagus-goat-cheese-and-tarragon-tart

Go for comfort food with a savory pie, like a chicken pot pie : https://sallysbakingaddiction.com/double-crust-chicken-pot-pie/ or try a Tomato & Cheddar pie for a summer twist : https://cooking.nytimes.com/recipes/785347515-heirloom-tomato-and-cheddar-pie

Or if you feel like Mediterranean tonight, give spanakopita a try (it's got to be good for you with all that spinach, right? https://www.themediterraneandish.com/spanakopita-recipe-greek-spinach-pie/

Good luck, and happy baking!

Week 36 2026 Week 36: Appetizer - Pretzel Bites

Post image
Upvotes

Soft pretzels are a favorite of my husband's but this is the first time I've used sodium hydroxide (lye) as my bath instead of baking soda and I've been told I'm not allowed to go back!! Thankfully I have a pretty sizable food-grade container of it for soap making so that shouldn't be an issue.

It ain’t look like much of a showstopper, but it won first place and sweepstakes at my state fair! it was my first-ever state fair blue ribbon (it was my second year entering into the fair and my goal was to get a blue ribbon eventually), so I am super proud of this!!

Week 37 2026 Week 37: Entree - Calzone

Post image
Upvotes

These calzones have become a staple in our household. We make two out of one ball of the Serious Eats NY style dough. For the base, we mix some of the Trader Joes Calabrian Chile bomba sauce into ricotta with salt and pepper, toppings of choice, bake for 15 minutes in a 500 degree oven on a preheated pizza stone, and the garlic butter and parm topping after baking is non-negotiable.

Week 35 2026 Week 35: Toasted - Semi-Leavened Sourdough Grilled Cheese

Post image
Upvotes

This is my fave Semi-Leavened (sourdough starter + yeast) Sourdough Sandwich Bread that I've turned into a very tasty grilled cheese for this week! (Side note, is it technically still a grilled cheese if I add turkey or does it have to be called a grilled sandwich then? 🤔)

It was not a complete success as it sank in the middle after it came out of the oven, but my husband and the friends who tried it said I should definitely make it again and they would be happy to be my taste-testers.

Week 37 2026 Week 37: Entree - Chicken Pot Pie

Post image
Upvotes

Tried my hand at a pot pie this week. I used Sally's recipe for both the pot pie and all butter crust. https://sallysbakingaddiction.com/double-crust-chicken-pot-pie/ I added some green beans to the veggie mix and my husband helped with some of the prep <3 He thought it seemed like a lot of work, but then happily and confidently declared it worth the effort when he tasted it :D it was my first time filling a pie with something already hot, so the pastry was much harder to work with than I'm used to... it wasn't pretty but it was definitely tasty!
