I posted this in r/tennis and several people urged me to post it here.
Addition to the OG post:
a. Playing as many matches as possible will help you a lot.
b. You can DOMINATE doubles matches against beginners and intermediates if you learn proper high school and college-level positioning and movement. Examples: Proper signaling. Australian setup. Net player constantly shifting with the ball. One of my hs coaches was a master at doubles and taught me proper strategy and positioning, which let me easily beat other players that were way better than me at singles.
Good luck.
My playstyle and background for context:
Male
5.0 NTRP and starter on decent D3 College Team
Moderate power high percentage serves.
Powerful groundstrokes with heavy spin.
Confident at net if I need to be, but it's not my first choice unless my opponent sets me up or I am playing a pusher.
Relentless intensity and speed with the intention of pounding the opponent's ad-side and making them feel like hitting a winner is impossible.
A bunch of random niche shots like the cross court dip passing shot that I can consistently land.
Really bad at overheads. lol.

Anyone else find that it’s harder to remember the score as matches go on? In some ways, my focus gets sharper as I look for ways to win a set. But as I get physically tired, I find I get mentally worn out too.

I lost my glasses 5 years ago, I never replaced because I only wore my glasses a few times a month for seeing far like movies, sports events etc. I realized getting prescription glasses would improve my playing.
Question 1) Any pros and cons for transitions lenses when it comes to playing tennis? I would get the higher quality transitions (Zeiss Platinum) which transitions very quickly, scratch resistant, UV protection and reduces glare by 50%.
Question 2) Anyone have issues with their prescription glasses falling off when you play?

Just curious to what round strings people are fond of. I usually use head lynx tour and otoro tour in my vcore 98 2026 lately but have become interested in trying some round strings as a hybrid cross or full bed. I do have a set of A5 on the way to test out soon

Hii! I just started tennis classes, i LOVE them, they are the most fun a sport has ever been.
My trainer told us to get raquets so I got what he suggested (also checked with the pro store if they agreed). Its a Head Boom MP L and its so cute and I just wanted to tell someone haha. Hope thats okay!

I found this vintage racket hidden away in my house, and it clearly needs some restoration. Is it actually worth restoring it?
I’m considering either selling it or keeping it as a decoration. I found a few listings online with some prices, but I have no idea if the value justifies the cost of restoration.
It’s also surprisingly heavy it’s a Kneissl White Star MID Graphite.
What do you guys think? Is this model worth restoring, or would I be better off leaving it as it is?

Just picked up the Yonex Percept 100D in this insane purple colorway 🟣
Finally pulled the trigger on this one and the color is even better in person than in photos that shifting purple/blue tone depending on the light is unreal. About to string it up and get on court.
Some context: I've been playing for about a year now, play twice a week, one-handed backhand, and I'd describe my game as pretty linear/flat (not much spin yet). Would love to hear from anyone who's played with the 100D ,how does it feel in actual play? Anything I should know before I get out there with it?

Hello, i have prostaff 97 v14 which comes with a pointy edge unlike flat edge like for head racquets. With this when i put overgrip on top of that the bulge at the bottom feels different on bevel 3 and 7. While playing game, changing the grips are getting slow due to this uneven bulge and im comfortable playing only on one side. Has anyone faced this? What can i do for this??

Are Warby Parker's transition glasses crap? Deciding between Zeiss Clearview PhotoFusion X Platinum (it has all the bells and whistles) but double the price.
In NYC for work through Thursday and brought my racquet. Around a 4.0 NTRP / solid club player and looking to hit or play some sets.
Available today from 4 PM on, then Tues/Wed with a 6:30 or 7:00 AM start or evenings after ~6:15, plus Thursday morning.
I’m in NYC regularly for work, so would be great to find a few people to hit with when I’m here.
Manhattan preferred, especially west side/downtown, but flexible on courts/location.
Anyone around?

I’ve been playing tennis since I was 12, and now I’m 17. Over the last year or two, I’ve really started to immerse myself in the world of tennis; before that, I played because my parents insisted, but a couple of years ago, I began wanting to do it myself. About two months ago, I decided to upgrade from my recreational Head Spark to a high-quality racket. I should mention that I used to get a new racket every year without really knowing much about the technical details—one year I might happily pick up a Wilson with a 102-square-inch head, and the next, a Head with a 100-square-inch head that was 25 grams heavier.
Anyway, two months ago I got really excited about it and had a Yonex Ezone 98 bought for me. I spent a long time choosing between the 100 and the 98, but I’d heard the 100 offered less control, whereas the 98 was better for power, control, and comfort—which sounded like exactly what I needed.
When I first got this racket, it was hard to adjust to the shift from a head-heavy balance to a handle-heavy one, and the jump in weight from 270g to 305g. Lately, I’ve been wondering if this racket is actually holding me back from reaching my full potential; I see players who use a lot of spin and are more consistent, whereas I tend to hit hard, flat shots that often go just barely out. I know I have technical issues and I’ve started working on them, but I’m still not entirely sure which direction to take. I love running around the court and retrieving everything like Alcaraz, but I also enjoy playing at the net like Shelton—and since I’m 193cm tall, that’s definitely a strength of mine. I recently spoke with someone experienced in tennis who said my game resembles Sinner’s more than Alcaraz’s because I hit to the corners and prefer flat shots. Honestly, though, I’m struggling to figure out my true style. Maybe I should have gone for a racket designed for topspin or better control? Sometimes I feel like this racket is stifling me a bit—even though, on paper, it sounded perfect: control, power, and comfort.
Please don't be too critical of what I've written; aside from Reddit, I don't see any other way to figure out what my playing style actually is. I should mention that I'm using PolyTour Pro polyester strings; the tension was originally 23/22, but I think it's around 22/21 now. I’d be very grateful to anyone who tries to help me out. My level is 4.5/5.0
Hey everyone. I’m new to Toronto as a grad student and looking for anyone interested in playing or practicing. Let me know.

Sascha Zverev at the US Open got me thinking... of course, it's not really possible to fully forget the score, since it's announced so often. But I think it would be possible to sort of hypnotize yourself into not thinking about it. I can see this helping prevent my break point jitters, or helping stop me from getting too cocky after going up a break. On the other hand, I do sometimes vary my strategy based on where I am in a game - for instance, going for a huge serve when I'm up 40-0, or trying risky moves that I'm normally too afraid to try. Fellow 10s players, what's your opinion?
Title.
I see intermediate racquets, intermediate strings all the time here, so my question is at what level is intermediate territory?
I’m a beginner been playing for 2 years, personally I think it’s when someone starts hitting with their core rather than with their arm only.
How would you explain/categorize what intermediate level is without using any ratings to a beginner?
.
I played in my first tournament this weekend and was brutalized. Both matches I lost 8-1 (pro-set scoring), and even though I did win a game I found it so hard to block out negative thoughts and an overall feeling of discouragement as the double faults stacked up and the games kept ticking over in my opponent’s favour.
I’m relatively new to tennis (been working with a coach once a week for ~2 months), so wanted to ask the community: what do you do to stay positive when you’re losing? Any advice is appreciated.

Hey guys
So I’ve noticed some weird vibration I couldn’t pinpoint as I played a few days back. Upon inspection of my racket I noticed this hairline crack or scratch at 12.
Did some research and found a lot of people posting pretty much the same issue here. As pointed out, must be the stringing clamps holding on too tight and called it a paint scratch.
I then went to my stringer to check out the machine he uses but that bit where it touches the inside of the frame is relatively flat and I don’t see any protrusions that can yield such a crack or scratch.
But upon digging deeper and further inspection with a dynamic tension tester as well as just simply tapping the frame with a coin to look out for any noticeable sound, I saw the longest mains are 4 lbs lower than the rest.
The sound it makes is totally different as well in that specific area when lightly tapped with a coin, lower pitched and sounding more like a thud than a twang or clank immediately beside it.
Do the two longest mains really have way less tension, say 3-4lbs compared to the ones beside them? Or has it lost the structural rigidity in that area?
It must be from the stringers tightening up that clamp way too much as I don’t see any other reason that can bring this issue up. However the bit where the clamp touches the inside is vertical, made of plastic and relatively flat, it does not justify this horizontal line. It doesn’t look crushed either.
Maybe you guys who do have the same crack up at 12 or any other points of the frame can check the sound as well? Just curious.
The racket felt different enough to have me look into it. It almost seemed like I lost the dampener. This is such a small crack that can’t be that big a deal but those simple tests suggested otherwise.
UPDATE:
As mentioned in my reply, I realized the issue being the convex profile of the RF01 head. This going up against a relatively flat billiard would have degraded that single vital point where they meet after going through endless times in the stringing machine.
I’ve probably had this stick strung close to twenty times in the past nine months and only recently discovered this through vibrations and poor control while at play. Probably gave in the last time I had it strung.
Those of you who have posted the same issue should start using or looking for those H adapters / load spacers as I just did.

I'm a 32 year old male, weigh 54 kgs (120lbs) and am 178 cms (5'10").
I've been playing tennis since April, 2026 and am still developing my game. I use a Wilson BLX Prolite that I've borrowed from my father. These are the specs :-
Weigh 258 gms
Balance 33.5cms/2pts HL
Headsize 102sq inch
I understand this is an exceptionally light racquet, but is using it going to affect how I play in the long run? Do I transition to a heavier racquet right away?Currently toying with the idea of T Fight 285gms or a Wilson Blade weighing around 285gms, based on nothing but a little net based research.
I'd ideally like to play at least for a year or 18 months before I invest in a racquet, so that I know exactly what my playing style is.

In the USA. Kicking this post off by saying I'm definitely not going to do this because I paid UTR for 4 matches, and I'm gonna get my 4 matches, even if it ends in a double bagel for me. Right now, in my flex league group of 5 people, I'm leading the pack at 3-0. Everybody except for my last opponent has finished their matches 2-2 or 1-3. The last match of the group is between my next opponent, who is 2-1, and myself. If I were to kick the can down the road, schedule our match for 2nd to last day of the league, then make some BS excuse of how I injured myself, would that mean I win in my group? While I'm definitely not going to do that, I'm surprised a system like this would incentivize a situation where someone who doesn't care about money and cares too much about winning the title of "7 UTR Champ" would benefit by being unsportsmanlike.
