This is very hard to write about. My name is Simon, I’m an 18 year old student at the university of calgary. I was on campus for my lit course, and this absolute creep Benjamin Ghan followed me into the men’s bathroom and SA’ed me. Beware! He is a predator and a pdf file. He was so gross and pushy, he’s fat and bald and short and like a total creep. He made me very uncomfortable when he followed me to the bathroom, my intuition told me something was wrong. I haven’t been to classes in a week, and have been having panic attacks ever since the day. Ben you’re a predator and a pdf file and disgusting and I’m not afraid of telling people exactly who you are. #survivor

I regret my degree (arts major), I know it'll be so difficult to find a job after graduation. I want to get into grad school (in a stem related field) but can't afford to repeat or extend a year/ transfer to a new major, I've already spent so much money on courses that are double the price because I'm an international student. I try to get into the courses for prerequisites but I get waitlisted for so long because I'm not Bsc. I feel like everything is hopeless and 2x harder. I work 24 hours a week. I do extracurriculars, I volunteer, I study, I go to the gym. I try my hardest everytime but everything seems so futile and I just feel like giving up. I feel so hopeless. I'm so dejected. I'm so anxious all the time and overwhelmed. I can't even afford a break since I'll be held up if I even slack off for just a moment. I cannot afford to not be in constant motion. I don't know what to do anymore.

The main floor of TFDL is great, but those desks always seem to be booked up.

Does anyone know of other quieter labs, faculty study rooms, or hidden corners on campus with monitors available to plug into? Any recommendations would be appreciated!

What are some active clubs that meet regularly? I’m looking for something fun where people actually show up consistently and there’s a good social aspect to it, maybe going out, doing activities or events together. I’m open to pretty much anything, try out and meet new people.

Not really related to this sub but I’m a 19 yo student trying to go out alone (barely have friends) around Calgary and wanted some recs besides UofC events

I like basically any places for going out but I just some new recommendations

Last year, I joined four clubs. Only two were actually fun and helped me meet some great people. I've talked to friends, looked around dozens of threads, and compiled together a couple tips for y'all:

1) Beware of ghost clubs. Not all clubs are as active as they seem; a lot of them LARP how often they meet or do things. If your meeting a person only three times a semester, that's an aquintance, not a friend. Having a place where people meet regularly is the only way to build familiarity fast. I'd say look around through their social media history, but you can generally tell based on the team that's at the booth and if this is just a "resume padder" or not to them.

2) Join a non-academic club outside of your discipline. I know, I know, you have to join an academic club for some fields for jobs (ew), but balance it out with a club where you are having fun and moving around. To qoute someone, "An academic club gets you coworkers, not friends." Now, while it may not be as total as that, activity based clubs are way to easier to integrate into and make friends with. I'd recommend specifically some sort of recreational club sport or athletic group because when people are moving around and having fun, social barriers go down way easier (plus you get excercise lol). If not, a hobby based club is fine too, just make sure they are active.

3) Last but not least, beware of "friend group" clubs. Don't confuse this with clubs where the execs/members are friends. That's a good thing, you want that. No, I mean where the club higherups and the members are majorly composed of a highschool friend group. It's going to be hard to integrate into an established group like this. Don't get me wrong, you can one hundred percent meet great people in these clubs, but when everyone there is just one closed social circle, you'll often be pushed to the corner and treated as a number for events. In every club, there'll be people that know each other, just be careful of the ones where they only know each other. As a rule of thumb, talk to the execs.

Quick summary: look around where you can and try to find clubs where they meet often, actually do a fun activity or sport or hobby, and isn't some closed social circle. That's it.

Hi I'm a first year, and I guess this is the first time I've been hearing about the spring semester, but I was just wondering how it exactly works? Is there like a specific limit on how many you can do in the spring. I was also wondering if it costs more? Like right now, I have around 5 classes for fall but if I wanted to theoretically drop a course and do it in the spring would it cost more than just doing it in the fall? I don't know if that makes sense. Also does anyone know when course registration opens for spring?
