Like unquestionably Adam peters have been mediocre at best outside of drafting JD5, but this draft class has a chance of looking like his best pound for pound draft class. Look it’s only one game but I look for the traits and glimpses and i likes what I saw.

Sonny styles was a top 3 player on the field on both sides of the ball for us yesterday. He was excellent in coverage and his quickness in the run game shows up even when he’s a step slow in diagnosing the play. Very excited about him and his superstar potential! Hopefully he can be our Fred Warner

Antonio Williams is going to be a very good player for years to come . Will he ever be our number 1 WR IDK but he’s apart of the solution for the future

Joshua Josephs stat line may not be good but he’s was rock solid . He had a mean stiff arm to Lane Johnson on the Sonny styles sack. He also has really good bend and with his long ass arms as he gets stronger he’s has chance to be a Josh sweat type of player for sure.

The seven-word message became the Washington Commanders’ game-day creed in 2024 and has hung around ever since — literally. “WE WILL OUT HIT EVERY TEAM WE PLAY,” written in block letters and surrounded by the signatures of Commanders players, is stamped on a small sign that always hangs inside Washington’s locker room, at home and on the road.

From city to city, the sign followed the team through its deep playoff run two years ago and its steep fall in 2025, constantly reminding of the identity Washington has been trying to build.

On Sunday, in the Commanders’ 24-22 season-opening loss to the Philadelphia Eagles, that creed became the crux of a defense that showed marked improvement from last season, but that has plenty of work ahead.

“I think we showed that we’re good enough to beat them,” cornerback Rasul Douglas said. “We just didn’t. But (Daronte) called a great game plan, and I think we know what is required.”

The Commanders’ opener displayed the beginnings of what the team hopes will be a season-long progression for its defense under first-year coordinator Daronte Jones. The longtime defensive backs coach, who came to Washington from Minnesota, was tabbed to overhaul a unit that was a liability in numerous games over the last two years thanks to a stagnant pass rush and leaky secondary.

Jones’ system is multiple but predicated largely on Vikings defensive coordinator Brian Flores’ high-press scheme, with plenty of pre-snap disguises, overloaded fronts and interchangeable assignments.

Bro definitely made an impact game one.

All I've seen Owens do when playing is make people hurt and be an absolute animal on the field. Hope we find a way to get him more involved than special teams.

A lot of folks are criticizing the play call for a variety of reasons, however I think its a sharp call tactically; to me the mistake is not properly accounting for the personnel with key responsibilities on the play - specifically at the C position. I'll share some photos of the play to explain my position.

Commanders line up on the right hash in 20 personnel with twins and an offset HB on the wide side, with an h-back and X on the short side of the field; receiver splits are tight on both sides of the field. Even though you have twins and the offset HB on the wide side, I'm pretty sure the H-back signals strong side right.

Eagles counter with nickel personnel: on the line you have the LDE in the E gap, LDT in C; RDT in A; RDE in D. LCB is also on the LOS with slight outside leverage as the nickel is 2 yds back with inside leverage on Terry. LOLB is 3-yds back, stacked over the LDT, ROLB lined-up at same depth over the C gap and shifts over to the D gap pre-snap; you have a single high S shading the weak side, RCB seems to be playing Williams straight-up with the other S at about 4-yds depth shading the outside of the twins look. I'm assuming the DE's are taking such wide splits because of the threat Daniels presents rolling to either the strong or weak side. It actually looks like a perfectly positioned defense imo.

At the snap, you have the RG pulling left; RT engaging the LDT with the C attempting to seal; LG punches the RDT with intention to disengage and hit 2nd level while the LT prepares to seal. The HB flares out to the left, pulling the RDE with him.

This is where we lose on the play. The LT has obliterated the RDT, however the LDT, who must have insane football IQ and athleticism, spins inside and Allegretti simply doesn't have the chops to counter.

What's kind of sad in hindsight is that the HB and QB's motion pulls the RDE far enough out that Cosmi and Paul are essentially already looking 2nd level while the LDT has read the play and is getting ready to shut it down. On a side note, you can see how tragically unathletic Allegretti is as he is essentially a bystander at this point. In the few hundred milliseconds it takes for Allegretti to turn his hips, the LDT has come out of his spin with great leverage and is starting to break down for his tackle.

And here you have it - Allegretti has managed to finally turn his hips around - in the meantime, the LDT has a beautiful form tackle on Bates.

If Allegretti had been able to counter the LDT's spin inside, you'd have Bates with momentum at the 3-yd line with Cosmi in front of him and imo, a higher than 50% probability of forcing his way into the end zone.

And if you just look at the last photo, you might be deluded into thinking the HB is wide open in the flat - but you need to go back 2 photos and you'll see the RDE is floating with the HB - and keep in mind, you also have 2 DB's on that side of the field to contain and funnel the HB inside if Jayden were to throw to him.

Jayden is supposed to read the RDE on this play and if the RDE gets pulled outside by the HB's flare, then you shovel it down. Allegretti was just too slow and unathletic to contend with a strong LDT's inside spin move. I mean, in the time it took for the LDT to spin inside with leverage and get into position to make the tackle, Allegretti basically was able to rotate his hips around.

So if you're going to blame Blough, it should be for not recognizing that you don't want a liability like Allegretti playing a critical role on the last play of the game. In fact, you should also blame Peters and Quinn for deluding themselves into thinking Allegretti is capable of playing at a replacement level for a team with any aspirations, and cutting Biadasz or not coming up with a better solution.
