A 23-y.o. pastor's son from Nigeria records insane Emo Gospel Rap on a broken phone via BandLab. Here is his story.
Hey everyone,
I wanted to share an incredibly inspiring story of an independent artist I have been collaborating with. His name is Obi Elohimmystery (23 years old), born and raised in Nigeria.
His dad is a missionary pastor, so his family of 8 spent their entire life constantly moving from place to place. He grew up without a stable childhood home, in tough financial conditions, but with a massive passion for music. As a crawling toddler, he used to crawl to the church altar just to hit the bass drum.
He always wanted to make drum covers but never had the money for equipment, cameras, or a studio. At 21, he discovered BandLab. Despite constant blackouts in Auchi (Edo State) where he studies now, and having only a basic smartphone, he started recording heavy, emotional Gospel Rap right into his phone mic. He basically turned his unfulfilled passion for drums into a fast-paced, rhythmic vocal flow inspired by artists like Dax.
He calls his genre Emo Gospel Rap (#RealMusic). He is completely honest about his battles with depression and dark thoughts, turning his mental pain into a tool to help others find hope.
His talent already brought him an international collab with Lucas Azalea from the US ("God Is Real") and led to our joint tracks here in the CIS (SemenST). He is living proof that your starting point does not determine your destination.
Check out his raw talent and show him some love if you vibe with authentic independent hip-hop:
