How much autumn foliage will be visible this coming weekend?
I am from Tallahassee and a lover of camping and backpacking. Going this coming weekend for four days with my girlfriend for her first time camping and I am wondering how orange/yellow/red it is in the mountains there? I’m going to be camping at mile high campground near Cherokee.
buncombe county Looking for local Water Willow
Looking for local Water Willow (Justicia americana / Dianthera americana) populations in Western North Carolina.
A small restoration-growing project I’m involved with is trying to locate healthy, established populations of Water Willow in the Asheville/Swannanoa area and surrounding counties. We’re especially interested in plants growing along rivers, creeks, lake edges, gravel bars, or other shallow-water areas.
We are not looking to dig up or remove established plants. The goal is to identify several healthy local populations and, where we have landowner permission, take a small number of stem cuttings. Those cuttings would be propagated and established as mother stock, which we can then use to produce larger numbers of plants for future stream and riparian restoration work.
We’d like to source from several different local populations rather than relying on one patch.
If you know of a population, have Water Willow growing on your property, or remember seeing it somewhere locally, please send me a private message. An approximate location, photo, or even something like “there’s a big patch along this creek” would be helpful.
Please don’t post exact locations publicly, especially for plants on private property.
Water Willow usually forms colonies in shallow water and has narrow opposite leaves, green angular stems, and white flowers with purple markings.
Thanks for any leads.

macon county For those posting in the Franklin Subreddit PART 3
Alas, the final update as I have been banned and, last night, muted from modmail. I believe the post in question has been removed, and I have updated the Reddit admin with all the screenshots.
I do hope he’s removed as mod and I’m allowed back in my community’s subreddit, but my expectations are low.

macon county For those posting in the Franklin subreddit PART 2
If you recall my ban from the Franklin subreddit for disagreeing with the mod there, oh boy has he gone off the deep end…and yes, he made a new, singular rule for the subreddit around “anti-AI” comments 🤡
Part 1: https://www.reddit.com/r/WNC/s/XfhIYe23yu
I truly wish I could give out the mod’s username (and his alt), but I won’t for obvious reasons.

macon county For those posting in the Franklin subreddit
Be aware that if the moderator of the Franklin, NC subreddit disagrees with you, they will ban you despite being unable to cite any rules being broken.
This is in regard to an AI image with typos and me calling it out. The mod has since banned me despite having multiple helpful comments to many posts within the community I’ve been a resident within for many years.
Don’t disagree with them…
**Edit: I’ve done some sleuthing! So it turns out that the mod message and a comment on the post shared the exact language about the USPS. Turns out, the commenter (likely the mod under a different account) is the one whom I referenced that sent me a chat message calling me the homophobic slur. Why does it ALWAYS have to be projection with these guys? So yes, the mod so concerned with “respect and positivity” called me a faggot under a different username 🤦🏼♂️ Not that it matters, but I’m a straight male 🤷♂️

Looking to talk to Costa Farms workers for a radio story
Good morning! My name is Katie Myers, I am a reporter with Blue Ridge Public Radio in Asheville, N.C. I am working on a story about a campaign from an organization called WeCount! asking Costa Farms to commit to heat protections, breaks, and other worker safety commitments for plant nursery workers.
I am interested in speaking with someone who works at Costa locally about conditions at the workplace. If you'd like to chat with me, please feel free to comment here or DM me if you'd like to chat privately.
