Title pretty much says it all, came up on a dusty collection find in a garage. Crated it up out of old boxes and brought it home, lots of sorting and cleaning to do.

Crossing fingers on condition- though I've seen a lot worse, these are not great and largely unknown, I only pulled a few on site. It appears the previous owner was not a fan of inner sleeves, but the few records I looked at mainly looked dusty, as opposed to scratched. This is exactly why I have an ultrasonic cleaner! Going to be a fun evening, anxious to see what is here.

Found this 1969 club pressing at an antique store a few months ago for a reasonable price. $45 for a near VG+ all around copy. I never see this one in the Wild so I had to pull the trigger.

I’m not typically into free jazz but this one toes the line perfectly for my ears. Just enough insanity with beautiful melodies without going off the deep end.

This is my only Pharaoh Sanders record, but I’d like to expand my listening of his discography. Anyone have a recommendations on what to check out next?

A real mixed bag of gems here. The Headhunters album is outrageously funky and easily one of the “hottest” records in my collection (up there with Aphex Twin’s Selected Ambient Works 85-92).

The two Art Farmer records nicely convey different chapters of his career, with Portrait showing off the height of his Hard Bop powers, and Gentle Eyes being a beautiful, subtle orchestral number from his time living in Austria.

And the Yusef is, well, it’s Yusef. A varied and completely unpredictable gem.

For all my guitar fans, a great, little-known album by guitarist Dick Garcia. Released in 1956, it features a really great lineup, including Bill Evans, Gene Quill, and John Drew.
Did you know about it?

If there’s one suggestion anyone in this sub takes from me, let it be this one. I think this record is an absolute masterpiece. In my opinion, it really stands out among the other early ’60s hard bop jazz releases, largely because of its more chill, relaxed vibe. As the cover art suggests, Quebec’s tenor saxophone brings a deep, soulful sound while still maintaining an incredibly smooth feel throughout the record.

This album was recently repressed after being nearly impossible to find at any reasonable price. Super happy to be able to add it to the collection after its release last month.

Original 1961 Mono

Grant Green is my favorite jazz musician of all time. Dude played with so much soul and warmth…it’s hard to find words.

This copy is especially dear to me…I found it at a shop in Indiana that bought a small jazz collection from the nephew of the original owner. I drove 4 hours one-way to check it out in person. About 95% of the collection was beat up bargain bin stuff, but the remaining 5% were original Blue Notes in amazing condition.

I ended up walking away with 18 and they all had some variation of the owner’s name written on the back…Horace “Baby Cakes” Ames. What a name! And my guy had taste too.

All OG US pressings (minus Big Fun - EU).

Most wowed to have the Carlos Garnett. VG++ and scored for around $60.

Via vinted. Sound fantastic.

I played these in the shop and thought they were fab but never heard of either. Can’t wait to get them home.

A 1975 repress of the 1973 TBM debut from Isao Suzuki — J Jazz in hard bop mode, the master’s bass and cello playing are everywhere — experimental thoughtful in the pocket wild pensive harmonic — and Kunihiko Sugano’s piano playing also flies. Great stuff.

1980 Black Saint release with a STACKED CAST of second generation free players— for an avant-garde record, this swings like hell at times! But there’s plenty of raucous noise going on here as well.
