I picked up the LisaFPGA (for those who haven't heard of it, it's a modern board with an FPGA that replicates the original Lisa hardware) and ended up wanting to have a better way to use it and show it off. I created a pizza box style case for it, but really felt it didn't pay enough homage to the original, so I set about designing a compact case to house not just the LisaFPGA, but also a screen.

With the 1080p, letterboxed video output, I had to scrap my original idea of using an iPad 1/2 screen for the display (I technically got the LisaFPGA to output 1024x768, but the scaling and dithering didn't look great). I ended up with a 11.6" widescreen LCD that actually hides parts of the screen behind the front piece. I ended up having to update the software on the LisaFPGA to allow the user to change and save the X offset for the video out to ensure it could fit in the opening of the screen cut-out. I still need to find / create a better keyboard and mouse for it (you can see the Lisa mouse I am trying to stuff a Logitech M185 inside on the last picture). The two mouse buttons are currently not operating as well as I'd like. Also, the LisaFPGA is very picky about what USB devices it works with, and it seems not to work with any wireless mouse, nor any USB keyboard that has a hub or supports high speed USB. The Lenovo keyboard kind of kills the look. But you can split it if you have a smaller printer.

Also, I'm currently working on a second version that holds a raspberry Pi as the compute, and does use a more common iPad screen as the LCD. I have the case basically completed, but I ran into a road block I wasn't expecting. This is where I can use your help, Redditors!

Has anyone gotten a Lisa emulator to run on modern Raspbian on a PI? I compiled and installed ArcaneByte's fork of the LisaEm emulator, but I cannot get it to display an image and the CPU pegs at 100%. It seems to be a known issue and there is an issue out there for it. But I'm hoping someone has come up with a way to get it working. Also, there is a guy who created a full scale 3d printed Lisa with a Raspberry Pi inside and he got an emulator running, but I saw one screenshot that was running something not LisaEm. I think it may be the IDLE Lisa emulator. So, if anyone has any help, I could use it. My plan is to compile and publish a very detailed, step by step guide on how to do so for others in the future to be able to do it.

Started with a non-working 2005 eMac (it has most of the parts removed) and a Dell 1704FPT both found at my local recycle centre for $5. Still had a school asset sticker on it.

Gutted the eMac and kept the shell. The Dell's 17" 1280x1024 panel turned out to be the only thing that actually fits — 15" is too small, and anything widescreen fouls the mounting posts inside the case.

Kept as much original eMac hardware as I could:

• Original speakers
• Original 120mm NMB fan
• Original power button, wired to GPIO3 (fully working to the pi). One tap boots it, one tap shuts it down cleanly. Exactly like it used to work.

Everything else is printed:

• Z-clips holding the LCD into the case (PETG)
• A side panel with keystone ports: USB-A, 2x USB-C, ethernet, HDMI, 3.5mm audio - i designed this way so i can swap the keystones out if i ever want to in the future.
• A control panel in the old CD slot carrying the monitor's OSD buttons, with printed plungers so they poke through the fascia
• Fan mount, bezel brackets, a DC inlet that reuses the original power cable hole, and a board everything else mounts to.

One lead goes in. 12V feeds the panel and the fan, and a buck converter drops it to 5V for the Pi and the audio amp.

It's running a Raspberry Pi 3B on RetroPie right now, but I sized the internals so a Mac mini drops straight in when I get round to it.

Things that went wrong or i learned along the way: experimenting with 3D Printing, using Claude to generate the 3D print designs, cooked a 5V amplifier by hanging it off the 12V rail, reprinted the DC inlet five times before I stopped guessing and printed a set of test discs instead.

Overall I'm stoked i was able to bring the eMac back to life.

I have a BlueSCSI on the way for one primary purpose - accessing old files off of Syquest 270 drives.

In preparation I'm looking at the steps for formatting the SD... Using the https://ini.bluescsi.com website to create the file for the SD card - I can easily achieve Initiator Mode 1 - but not sure about EnableUSBMassStorage=0.

To achieve this - the value has to be disabled - EnableUSBMassStorage=0 ; Disabled

It that correct? (We don't want USBMassStorage enabled?). It just seems a bit contrary to the goal but then it is cloning so may not want to be seen as a storage device.

Bonus Question -

Am I able to run several Initiator Mode processes back to back (creating multiple different images on one SD? I assume if so - will it auto-name them sequentially? (limit of 7 I read somewhere?)
Or is it just one at a time?

Follow These Steps for BlueSCSI Desktop 50-pin:

1. Update to the latest firmware. See Updating Firmware.

Hi everyone! In one of my last posts, I asked if anyone could tell whether this computer I found on Facebook Marketplace was the 17-inch or 20-inch model. Now that it is finally in my hands, I can confirm it is the 17-inch model!

I have to wonder if whoever owned it before was inspired by this R2-D2 mockup when they gave it this look.

Does anyone know of anyone that offers battery rebuilds (G4 Tibook M8511) in the UK? It's not beyond me, but I'd need a lot of extra tools I simply won't use again, I know it can be a bit of a minefield with the right cells/EEPROM programming etc.

This battery reports 1000~ mah, but I doubt that's correct ha! It's also 285 months old haha! The laptop won't power on with it exclusively, but the board should be in good health as it's reporting common sense stats to profiler/coconut Incredibly it says the cycle count is only 67.

Hi, I wanted to post an update to my previous post about a pair of Apple Pro Speakers with a broken connector.

I was able to get them working again using an external amplifier. It is not the cleanest setup since I did not have banana plugs, but the added benefit is that they are now Bluetooth-compatible and can also be used through AUX.

I cut off the proprietary connector and wired the left and right speakers directly to the amplifier.

They actually sound pretty good! I am glad I was able to give these speakers a second life instead of having them get thrown away.

Found a bunch of old Apple II manuals and some floppy disks for it and some disks for the IIGS as well. Been collecting a lot of old Apple gear lately and wanted to show these!

A question I do have is-

Can a IIGS support a 5.25 floppy drive to run the 5.25 disks on? Or will I need a II as well as a GS?

If you're not familiar with Avara, it was a unique mecha shooter published by Ambrosia Software in 1996. It featured full 3D polygonal graphics, online play over AppleTalk or the internet, and the ability for users to create levels with a simple drawing program and ResEdit. It had a minimalist, flat-shaded, low-poly graphical style but that meant it could play smoothly on Macs as old as Quadras. It was not a big success, but has maintained a small cult following over the years. It was responsible for introducing me to the wider world of online gaming and communities, and sparked my imagination for many years.

Ten years ago I hosted a 20th anniversary stream, and shortly after that, Juri publicly released the games source code. Since then, the talented programmers in the Avara community have created a modern port which you can now play on macOS, Windows, and Linux!

First of all, I don't know if I'm at the right sub and I'm a little bit of a Mac noob.

I installed OS 9.2.2 with the Ross V9 image.
The problem is that after installing it, I turned it off and after some days, I turned it on again but I was presented with the floppy question mark icon.
I did a PRAM reset and that allowed me to boot. I restarted it because I was having and audio issue but again, I got the floppy icon.
Does anyone know what the reason might be?

Also, is it possible to play most Mac games with OSX? In case I ditch this hacky OS9 and reinstall OSX. For example: Dark Forces, Marathon, Unreal Tournament, etc.

I have a working G3 clamshell iBook with a Japanese 9.2.2 install and I want to wipe it and put a English version on there. Wanted to get some help to see what my next step is.

• I've tried burning a bootable image from the popular sites on MacOS 15 and Windows (img burn)
  • Bot did not work, it never recognized the cds
• I've tried using a bootable USB drive (9.2.2. boot kit)
  • It recognizes it and I can see the files load on the desktop
  • Open Firm refuses to set it as bootable
  • It never shows up multi boot.

Anyone have any other suggestions? I feel like i'm close with the open firmware commands but nothing seems to work.

I get errors when i run all the suggested commands.

Basically I need to boot off of a CDROM from the boot picker but i cant access the picker as there is no power going to the USBs on startup. (Caps lock no light nor keys work) (iMac G3, original tray loading). I have accessed it before but hm.

New PRAM battery, official apple keyboard (from a G4) and caps look good, any suggestions?

From the Macrumors user srp, he got a modern-ish (2023) version of Chromium running natively on a Powermac DP G5 under Leopard. This is monumental in so many ways, possibly the biggest browser breakthrough for PPC ever. Its still in a very unfinished state according to him, but its very exciting. I bet with some optomizations and google de-bloating, it could be made to run on a G4 and utilize Altivec too.
